Please note that I have created a new thread from your post on the Mauritius forum so that you might get some feedback easily. Have you enquired from the university ? They do have officers taking care of international students.

I think that the town of Beau-Bassin/Rose-Hill or Quatre-Bornes/Ebène or villages of Moka and Réduit, even St-Pierre should be ok to begin with. You won't face any hassle with transportation etc. You can move around when you're settled..

You may have a look at the ads listed in the housing section, or create your own advert.

You can also search on facebook pages just type keywords house for rent in Mauritius (Marketplace).
