Films to watch & to look out for
Another remake- @SimCityAT
I don't mind if people know what we did last summer.
We went to Balaton as usual.
We ate langos, gyulasleves, went on bikes and scooters, went in the lake and walked the dog.
Came home.
George Clooney is back and in his latest, he's rumoured to be up for an Oscar.

BTW and a warning, this film includes Adam Sandler. He's got a massive deal with Netflix. Presumably this is one of his required inputs for the gadzillions he's receiving. Apparently he plays it straight this time so there is hope.

Interesting how Netflix manages to pull in the big guns. Top stars must be making a bundle. Even those more in the twilight of their careers. Mirren and Brosnan also appear in Mobland. Now that's one excellent show.
And at least 40% of the Netflix output is not bad at all, even becoming Oscar and Emmy material. Chuck in AppleTV and Amazon and it shows days of the trad broadcaster like BBC etc are long gone.

I was not a fan of Dexter but I know others who really liked it. Never seen any of the shows.
It's a bit like the Walking Dead. How much can you milk a franchise until it's exhausted?

Ah The Walking Dead (TWD).
I know much about this. I've been watching them as I am a fan of the franchise and the genre.
- Daryl Dixon gets a 4th and final season next (Europe based in France)
- Dead City is back for a 3rd season (based in NYC)
The Tales of the Walking Dead was rather good. Short webisodes. It could have been a proper series.
The Walking Dead is a bit like Star Trek. There's always a bit more to leverage for the pipe line. It's good for the actors to have steady work but typecasting will dog them for years.
BTW, I'm currently in season 4 of Van Helsing. I could definitely have seen potential for a cross over episode with TWD. Benefit of hindsight since Van Helsing ended at season 5 though (in 2020) and I doubt anyone want to resurrect it so to speak.
The Paper - a kind of Office look-a-like airs 4 September on an Internet near you.
All episodes will be released at the same time.

Watched the entire Netflix thing on a binge. Wasn't bad, wasn't great but was OK. Episodes are 40m long or so, so it's not a massive investment. Only 5 of them. Might end up with a Season 2.

Spoiler alert: One of the actors is really cringeworthy annoying and I was marginally wondering if I wanted the terrorists to get her sooner than later.

Two of my fave genres.
Zombies and Cowboys - what's not to like?! Good tip!
I checked and it's downloadable from the usual sources.
(ssh.....whispering....In fact, I've already got it downloaded - maybe watch it tonite).
Update: Wasn't bad. Unusual thing is it was filmed in NZ using the director and producer's own cash. It was their first feature. Pacing was a little slow and laboured but the scenery is quite interesting if a little bleak.

Did find an interesting British film that was not overly emotional but sort of was.

Sandler is too obnoxious for me. Not funny more stupid humor.
My son,s old Japanese GF found him hilarious, humor for those who do not fully understand what is funny.
I would die if I had to hear him for long.
Clooney just seems like an over rated guy to me.

I don't know how Sandler ever got to be famous. I couldn't name one of his films.
Bit like Eddie Murpjy. He was terrible in most of his films. The only one I seriously liked was Bowfinger. I saw this at the cinema and at the time thought it was hilarious. I saw it again recently and nope, wasn't the same. I think the rest of the cast made the movie. Murphy didn't carry it all.
George Clooney always seems to play the same character in his movies. Somehow it's just Clooney with a different name and hat on. I can live with that as I don't dislike him. He also lives in the UK about 2 miles from my bro's house, so quite possibly he's got some sense. He's also related to Rosemary Clooney, the singer. I think she's his aunt.

It was OK as a movie but a bit slow paced for me. The zombie cum cowboy thing was interesting. But too many long faces shots, ponderous moments etc. Like we care, let's get into the zombie action! Wake up people! They needed to up the speed but then again, it would have been 1h long and not 1.5h long and would have been hard to market as a feature.
I struggle to care in movies longer than about 1.5h. I start looking at my phone and nodding off. Anything approaching 3h long, I'd have to watch it over a few days. Looks like I'm one of those "modern" people with low attention span. It's a problem now we have smartphones.
Daryl Dixon is back fighting the zombies for Season 3 at an Internet near you.
Carol and Daryl are in London and trying to get back to the USA via Spain.

Because of his dad, like a lot of B rated actors.

He's a big draw so I don't know if he's B-rated. He's very left leaning so I give him a bit of leeway.
Michael Sheen declared himself a non-profit actor.
I don't really knows what he means by that - presumably he donates - after expenses - all his fees.
Maybe George Clooney does it as well.
Watch "Dos Tumbas" last night.
Wasn't bad and the cast did an OK job.
It's in Spanish and I watched with English subtitles.

I guess I went retro, found a recommended show on my U tube feed.
A 1978 British tv series called, Flambards.
Just hit it and got hooked;
13 episodes in all, I watched 8 yesterday!!!
No body does Victorian drama shows like the Brits do!

I may actually remember that.
The big one was called Upstairs Downstairs. It was a forerunner to Downton Abbey as a show.
BTW, if you liked The Flambards, you'd probably like The Forsyte Saga
As a kid, I utterly disliked those shows as it took over the TV schedule Sunday evening. I used to listen to the Top 40 chart on the radio instead.
One thing I really enjoyed from that kind of costume era drama were films like The Remains of the Day.
It was - to me - a marvel of a story. But best appreciated by those older than about 40.
Apparently The Gilded Age is pretty good but never seen it.
Thanks, I am a sucker for period piece dramas.
As if real life is not dramatic enough! - @Marilyn Tassy
Yes and it's getting more dramatic every day!
Today I feel like we're on some kind hysterical trajectory into disaster.
Our daughter saw a guy on the tram today dressed as the Grim Reaper and sent us a photo!
Says it all.

Slow Horses returns 24 September. On Apple TV (and elsewhere).
It's a gritty British spy thriller about dysfunctional, yet clumsily effective secret agents.

it's got a very good cast. Many excellent actors.
Update: I saw this movie last night. Seemed a bit obvious what would happen BUT it was still entertaining. Liked the ending!
Humor is different for everyone but I found a comedian last night on U tube that I enjoyed.
He is a Hungarian/American raised in San Diego so is more American then Hungarian in his humor.
No HU accent, clean comedy with no swearing or gross references.
Zoltan Kaszas, the show was called:Honorary Jones.
He has been around for awhile, just found him though.
COBRA - not to be confused with another show called Cobra Kai.
This is a British thriller with a solid cast.
Three seasons are available on various channels (AppleTV, Prime etc)
