So far, so good, I got halfway through it and fell asleep watching it in bed. Not that it was boring, but cos I was knackered so I will watch it today. But if you like a good thriller and mystery, you will like this. I do like Keira Knightley. But this has had mixed reviews.

I do like Kiera Knightley (or Kiera Daytimely perhaps - see what I did there)
I watched Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes (2024) last night. 2.5h long! The CGI was excellent. Reminded me of Avatar. Filmed in Australia. I could tell by the trees and landscape. Was I satisfied, maybe a bit. There will inevitably a sequel, prequel, re-imagining, blah-blah. I really liked the original series and movie. Been diluted a bit.

Murdaugh...downloadable now...8 episodes, first 3 online, then one a week. Funny the name is Murdaugh, just like Murder (in perhaps Southern accent)!

Oldie movie, late 1950s, bit of a melodrama. James Mason comes across as an almost terminally sick and painkiller drug addicted schoolteacher circling life's plughole and trying to take down everyone around him. That's after he develops a near fatal arterial disease. I always like James Mason and this pushes his talent somewhat. It was a box office flop but has since become something of a cult classic. Quite possibly it pre-empted the US opioid crisis of recent times - perhaps even on a par with the infamous Reefer Madness.
Walter Matthau appears as a supporting actor. He became one of the great actors of his time.

I really am getting into Tubi again. Binge watching TV series like T.J, Hooker, Starsky & Hutch, Perry Mason (Original B&W version), The Twilight Zone, The Listener.
I did watch The Whistleblower earlier today. Wow, what a moving film that was.

Rachel Weisz and David Strathairn are great actors. The others, not that enamoured. with, even with the Redgrave name attached.
I also like all those old shows. Twilight Zone was fave. The old ones for sure.
I went to see Jerry Springer the Musical in London with Mrs Fluffy and David Soul was the narrator. Alas David Soul has departed the stage permanently. He became a British citizen after settling in London. That was all a good move. He was popular in the UK I seem to remember.
And btw, Raymond Burr also played Ironside and people were surprised he could walk.
I'm getting The Whistleblower right now. Good tip! Thanks!

I will check this one out;
Always enjoyed seeing Rachel Weisz and of course Vanessa Redgrave.
Raymond Burr, I was slightly surprised to find out he was in a years long relationship with Jonathan Frid, AKA Barnabas Collins of Dark Shadows fame.

I didn't know that about Raymond Burr. Yes, it looks like he was gay. I read up on him on Wikipedia.
Of course, as with all these actors, they are playing a part, they are just faking everything, including their personal life. They aren't tough guys really or mafiosa types. It's just pretend arty stuff.
Kind of interesting how there's gay cover in Hollywood. Some of those old stars were definitely gay but had to hide it. Probably nowadays, no-one cares.
The biggest surprise for me was Will Geer of the Waltons. He was shacked up with a guy for many years.

I saw this movie this afternoon and I thought it was pretty good. It's short enough not to put you into a coma, the pace is good and the cast are well known names.
The yacht is pretty interesting. I liked seeing the engineering spaces/engines etc. Ok, that wasn't part of the plot. I reckon renting that yacht cost them a fair bit or maybe they just lent it to the production and filmed all the yacht scenes in week. I tried to work out where the movie was made and I didn't see Norway. I think it was made in UK studios and same in Canada. The real name of the yacht is The Savannah and was based in Canada owned by a deceased mining magnate.
@fluffy2560
Yeah, it was good, nothing special. Not sure why it got such bad ratings.
Interesting the yacht:
Capacity 12 persons
Crew 22/26 persons
And all the prizes that it had won, but it is a nice looking yacht.

IDK so many housewives had a crush on Barnabas Collins, never guessed he batted for the other team.

Will Geer, now that is out of character!
I know as a hairdresser so many people assume all male stylists are gay.
Not True, allot are but some just like having all the ladies to themselves.
Years ago I told my husband to sign up for beauty school, Mr. Laszlo, the ladies in Beverly Hills would go just for the name alone.
He is very good at cutting my hair, only nipped my neck two times, I know my skin does not hang on my neck so there is that!
Forgot to check out the movie The Whistle blower last night, still on my list to watch.
Watched a video by a hospice nurse, things she will never do.She has seen too much.
No drink, no smoking or vaping and motorbike ridding, no e-scooter or bike riding, saw too many head injuries with or without a helmet plus too many broken collar bones.
IDK, when you get older you can hurt yourself just laying in bed!
My old neighbor in Ca; was in her early 80s and her back was always getting hairline breaks from turning in bed the wrong way!!

I'd have thought accidental nips by a hairdresser were bad news. Presumably no sterilisation of equipment between clients? No idea.
Yes, who would have believed Grandpa Walton was that way inclined.
I guess it was an open secret as according to Wikipedia, he was with his male partner for many years. Didn't seem to stop him make believing. He also had a wife and kids so presumably he liked to swing both ways.
There are so many others, like Randolph Scott. He was rumoured to be the domestic partner of Cary Grant. Can you believe that?! But there's many discussions about what went on in their shared Malibu house. Maybe it was just for whopping it up. There was that explanation. But Cary Grant? Really? He was such a cool dude, debonair, great looking and an absolute magnet for the ladies. Love his films. Plays it straight and could do comedy. My all time fave Cary Grant movie is Father Goose. Just brilliant. I see it every few years and can throughly recommend it for a light Sunday afternoon bit of fun.
If someone has osteoarthritis or some other bone condition, just sneezing can crack a bone. Very old people die of broken hips. As soon as they break their hips and go into hospital, they probably aren't coming out again.
Weirdly I looked up something medical and it said "elderly" meant over 65. Damn, that means me! I never considered myself elderly but it looks like some officials do. Blimey.
Geer had a 2-year relationship with a guy, but later ended up marrying a woman and having kids, which led to a happy relationship.
Back then, it was a punishable offence. It was kept very hush-hush, with only those in the circle knowing and not publishing it. There may well have been suspicions; in general, it came to light after their death.

Wonder how that maps on to current political views.
And yes, it was all illegal even in Europe. Some situations over here were really bizarre. Sweden - despite it's apparent liberal leanings - had some very odd laws against trans people but I think it's all Euro-normalised now. Hungary is particularly bad news for the LGBT+ community and incredibly hypocritical. Like marriage is only between a man and a woman BUT same sex couples are entitled to equal treatment under EU law. There's a lot of anomalies in the right leaning EU countries.

Yeah, the original is 1992 with Rebecca De Mornay. This is a TV movie (Hulu & Disney+)

Well, I am going to give it a go now. Will let you know how it goes,
Hi!
I do looking for historically realistic (as films/ series can) Victorian era (+Edward) themed films and tv series, preferably ones which are not try to present the era trough modern lenses/ morality, nor about comedy.
Examples for what did I find so far:
- Penny dreadful (tv series)
- Wisconsin Death Trip
- Various adaptations of Dickens novels + Les Misarables
- Ripper Street (tv series)
- The Alienist (tv series)
- Sleepy Hollow
- The mill (mini series, earlier, but fit the apprenticeship, poverty line)
- The harlot's progress (also earlier, but fit workhouse theme and slums)
- Copper (tv series)
- Maison close (tv series)
The problem is that only slightly realistic even the ones I find and many too much about supernatural, while the era by default produced creepy practices, like mummy unwrapping parties, Arsenic Complexion Wafers, jewelry from dead relatives hair, post mortem family photos, gallow-rhymes as folks songs in schoolyards.
Actually not just the era, but anything old from 1780 - 1920's where workhouse, slum, asylum, convicts, orphanage, apprenticeship/ indentured servants, dark-themed industrial revolution is the topic.

Wow, I was not expecting that. Yes, it was a remake of the original but a different storyline to it, which made it interesting as you weren't expecting it.
Yes, yes, a thumbs up from me.
I occasionally have a look at the BBC iPlayer at the films, and I found Road House (2024). I wasn't aware they had done a remake of it. The Original one is far better with Patrick Swayze in Road House (1989).

The Long Walk

The Wild and the Wicked, AKA, The Flesh Merchant.
Looks like some heavy editing was done since it is only 58 mins; long, Must of been rated X when it was released.
So silly yet disturbing.

Human trafficking movie!
Just shows how old this kind of behaviour is.
And it'll always go on in different forms - brothels, gambling dens, scam factories.
More things change, the more they stay the same.

Yes human trafficking has been going on for thousands of years.
The Ottoman empire were masters at it. For well over 600 years they put people into slavery from eastern Europe to down in Africa. They had quotas
They still have all the records of their victims.
Hurrem and Kosem, two famous Ottoman Sultanas were slaves who rose to the top and helped rule Turkey.

I guess that 1956 movie is just a snapshot of life in those times. Probably sensationalised and salacious to get rear ends on seats.
Kind of reminds me of my previous mention of Reefer Madness. I have actually seen that film. It's so ludicrous that it was used for PRO-hashish groups to show how the messaging was absurd.
I think the Ottomans were also the ones who created a bunch of eunuchs to work in their palaces. Yet another type of abuse.

It's got Rebecca Ferguson in it which is interesting in one way.
Despite her name, she's actually Swedish.
I like Ms Ferguson. She's in the sci-fi series Silo. Plenty to like.
Update: I watched the movie. Spoiler alert - I didn't like the ending. This has happened before with Netflix movies.
I watched this oldie from 1970 this afternoon - Cannon for Cordoba
Oddly, the movie stars Pete Duel who was an original star of Alias Smith and Jones, a Western TV series. Duel is in a scene where he puts a gun to his head. He of course shot himself in the head in real life. And his part in the TV series was recast.
I always liked George Peppard. My fave movie of his is Operation Crossbow
