Films to watch & to look out for

Marilyn Tassy

Without Netflix, I watch U tube.

Catch up on some old films and revisit other ones.

Last night I almost passed up a documentary on the life of Brain Jones.

Decided to see what it was about, glad I did;

It was well put together and interesting.

Lots of old footage from the 50,s and 60,s that I never saw before.

Brain Jones and the Stones.

French legendary actress Brigitte Bardot dies at 91

Not sure I even remember what she was in as she was retired for years.   I suppose this could have parallels with Marilyn Monroe.  What life as an icon could have been.

My main memory of Ms Bardot is her campaigning against the culling of stray dogs in Bucharest, Romania.   She interfered with that.  Those dogs were an utter nuisance.  Mrs F and I and the No. 1 HU Fluffyette were really nervous about those dogs while we walked in the parks.   And while we were there in Romania, a Japanese man was killed after being attacked by those animals - they bit his legs and he bled to death.  It became clear right then that Bardot should mind her own business as this was a public health issue. But she had some power (French government strongly linked to the Romanian government) and in the end the RO government there elected to neuter them all.   Didn't stop the problem.

Not quite all movies but here's a list of those who passed in 2025:

People we’ve lost in 2025

I was in the mood for a giant blockbuster from the 1960s so I happened to have this one available and pre-loaded:

The Bible: In the Beginning

I don't know about the first days of the Earth according to the Bible or this movie, but it seems to take ages before this movie got going and we had some action.  But it is sumptuous in its many stars and quality photography. Quite pretentious in that Adam is a blonde white boy with a fuzzied out rear end.   Eve's long blonde hair covers her boobs.   It's a long movie - almost 3h.  Some parts are just farcical.  It's not aged well.

I've been having a nostalgia afternoon - Department S.

A fantabulous TV show of the late 60s.  Incredibly groovy theme tune:

Love those old shows!  I may have posted before but no harm in re-living nostalgia moments of youth.

Yes, those stray dogs in Romania were a pain.

We stopped to eat at a road side restaurant.

Sat there for a very long time till food was brought. We almost cancelled the order.

My husband said they had no food and had probably sent someone to the store to buy some!

He is funny, he might of been correct though.

Finally the food arrived, nothing special, then the dogs also arrived. Sniffing around the outdoor table and begging for food.

My husband got mad at me when I gave half my meal to them.

He said he was over charged, waited too long, the food sucked and then I just gave it to the dogs.

I admit, my mistake, even to not have keep driving and not stopped for a meal.

Heard her only child, her son did not go to her funeral and he did not want anything from her, no money or anything; She called him a tumor when she was pregnant and never was a good mom, so he says, he should know.

Like my older sister, some people like dogs more then humans.

One of my relatives has a wife is mad keen on Chinese little yappy dogs who look like they've been punched in the face.  It's beyond weird. She's got about 6 of them.   She pushes them around in a child's pram.   They have no kids so I guess the little dogs are a substitute.  She's as mad as a hatter anyway. I don't know why he stays with her. I told him he has to decide if he divorces her and the dogs. I get all the confessions. He flip flops between hating her and letting her do her thing.  Some people!

I think people need to be responsible dog owners.  Like having a worthwhile license and compulsory training.

Bardot I don't care about so much.  After the Romanian thing, I just thought, go away Brigitte and don't come back.  Luckily until she died, she wasn't on my radar for anything.  I'm afraid despite her good intentions, she did not float my boat.

As this is the movie thread, I'll tell you one famous person who does float my boat is Greer Garson, of Mrs Miniver fame.  She deservedly won an Oscar for that.  She was absolutely fabulous and an absolute natural.  Shame she's gone.

Seems like just yesterday people were so afraid of those with AIDS.

On a lighter note, watched a short video from Weird Al Yankovic.

That's a great movie and one of Tom Hanks's best work.   The guy picks his movies with real care. Almost every Hanks movie is a winner.   HIV is far less of a threat than it was.

I had to look up weird Al,s zodiac sign, I would of placed him as an Aquarius because he thinks outside the box but no. He is a Scorpio.

My son is an Aquarius and I know for fact he is from another world.

Had a friend who was an Aquarius who got married just to find out how it felt. 2 weeks after her huge wedding, she was seeing her old BF and got divorced 2 months later!

I enjoy having people who make you think but sometimes, IDK

We are all influenced by our times, our family and finances; poor kids have to be smart or they are in big trouble.

My friend came from a wealthy family so she had slack to make major mistakes.

Was thinking of checking out the film, The Bible. I know I must of seen it several times already. Since it was brought up here, I was thinking of checking it out.

Also want to see WTH is going on with loony tunes bombing Venezuela.

Not sure just yet if I want reality or fantasy; Not sure which is real and which is a fantasy.

2026 is going to be ride!

I wouldn't bother with The Bible.  It really didn't do anything for me although I appreciated the super photography. I was doing online shopping for electrical goods while it was on in another window.   And it took me all day to get through it as I had other things to do.

In my country, we had a school subject called Religious Education (RE).  I really liked the stories but I didn't believe a word of it.  It might as well have been Jason and the Argonauts.  Or 2001 A Space Odyssey.  RE wouldn't occur in the USA public school system but it was normal in the UK.

Actually I believe Jesus was Aquarius but it seems to vary - others (from google) think he was Capricorn or Pisces.   I only guess Aquarius from "the age of Aquarius"  in the musical Hair.  Thinking of that prompted me and Mrs Fluffy to watch the original song on YouTube!   I don't think anyone knows when he was born. I mean, he had two shots at it, once from Mary and once from the resurrection.

As for Venezuela, I'm looking forward to the movie.  But who will play Trump? Or Maduro?  Apparently Maduro is a really big guy, 6ft 4".  He'll never be seen alongside Trump.  Trump doesn't like to be photographed with anyone taller than him - narcissism in action.  So I guess Maduro will need to be played by someone like the fantastic Peter Dinklage (dwarfism) and Trump by the so-so Tom Cruise (not a tall guy).  An exercise in miscasting if there was one.  But if we're playing fantasy Trump movies cum politics like Trump plays all day, why not?!  That guy says the US is going to run Venezuela.  That's beyond stupid.

The Pitt returns for Season 2 on Nov 9 (2026).  It's a medical drama. I've seen episodes of Season 1 and it's a good show if one likes medical shows. Bit similar to ER.   It'll be downloadable somewhere.

Mein Gott, what a fantastic movie.  I was discussing it with my friend.  Possibly one of the best movies of the genre. I saw it at the cinema when I was about 10 years old.  My mother took me.  Loved it and still do.  Brilliant soundtrack.

It was actually filmed at the Burg Hohenwerfen Castle in Werfen, Austria. Towering over the Salzach valley, the castle offers panoramic views of the surrounding Alpine peaks, creating an imposing atmosphere perfect for the film's suspenseful plot.

Yes, I think he has.

Mainly I think of The Honky Tonk Man

This is or wasn't Clint's genre.  I think we expect him to be The Enforcer in every movie.  But not now, he's really old - well into his 90s. But in general is able to direct movies that produce financial success.

But do all those movies appeal?  Not always!

fluffy2560

This is a weird one - the cast is quite strange.  But it's on YouTube (click for link)!

Alexander the Great

  1. William Shatner
  2. Adam West
  3. John Cassavetes
  4. Joseph Cotten

Unbelievable casting in this pilot for a show - Captain Kirk (Star Trek) and Adam West (camp Batman).  Cassavetes and Cotten - incredible career moves.

I spent the afternoon on this movie.

Interesting cast - always good value Gregory Peck, Joan Collins (!!!), Stephen Boyd (woefully underrelated but great actor) and an early Lee van Cleef before he honed his evilness with spaghetti Westerns.
