Employment on yachts in Mauritius... where to start?

Yachties

We are a South Africa couple wanting know whether there are any Yachting Agencies in Mauritius. My fiance and I have been in the Super Yacht industry, working on Yachts between 40m and 90m, for almost 5 years and would like to work on a smaller yacht in Mauritius.

We would like to get in contact with anyone who is looking for professional, friendly yacht crew to employ for day trips, charter or to permanently run/manage a yacht for them.

We are both professional yachties, and have done many courses to educate ourselves in the maritime field.  My fiance is a Navigational Officer, and was in the South African Navy for 5 years before we started working in the Super Yacht industry. I have been a Chief Stewardess, running the interior of yachts and ensuring only the highest standards in hospitality services onboard yachts.

We have experience cruising the Mediterranean, Caribbean, Alaska and other America, Mexico, Thailand, Russia, Finland, Norway, Sweden, Tahiti and the Pacific, Indonesia, Malaysia, UK, Panama Canal etc.

Normally we find placement through Crew Agents, but we have not been able to locate any that employ crew for Mauritius.  If anyone could be so kind as to point us in the right direction or give us advice on how to go about finding the right information regarding employment on yachts in Mauritius.

Many thanks and kind regards,
Liz

Dear Yachties

I would be pleased to assist you in your exploration towards securing employment on a yacht in Mauritius.

Thanks for contacting me on vayidm2000@yahoo.com in this connection as I do not want to venture inserting the name of the potential yacht owner on the forum without his consent.

Cheers;)

Vayid, are you trying to promote your services here? (which is not allowed?) second time I have this feeling this week

Dear Julien

Kindly rest assured that I am not trying to promote my services here as yacht is a completely unknown matter to me, and never had the pleasure to ... even climb on one!

Still, I know one guy, who was recruiting some time back, and was wondering whether he could be of some help.

At times, the demarcation between helping a person and promoting one’s services is so fragile, that it leads to false impression

You are surely aware that I am in a completely different field. I will shortly use, in a direct way (against payment) your forum for promoting my services, or at best go for the classified.

Cheers;)

Hello Liz

I saw your post and although older was wondering if you managed to find something.

I was born in Cape Town and am currently in South Africa and also hold a British passport. Recently I completed my STCW and medical courses to add to my PADI open water diver qualification. I am looking to enter the yachting industry to build a long term career and was hoping you might have some contacts and advice. Ideally I would love to secure a position from SA as travel costs initially is expensive.I am 18, very sporty and happy to work anywhere.

Hi Jordan and welcome to the forum.

Yes the post is old so I suggest you open a new thread on the subject.  Have you tried checking online for work as the summer season is coming up in the Northern hemisphere so there may be delivery work or such around.

Unless you have some sort of experience is is difficult to find work too. A long shot is to see if there is a vessel seeking a crew ( usually asking you to pay) to gain experience.

Yachting magazines also advertise work or crew positions too.

thank you
