After the lively summer months, April brings a welcome change of pace to Mauritius. As humidity drops and the atmosphere becomes more pleasant, it's the perfect time to make the most of local events, which are often easier to access. That said, rest assured that the cultural calendar remains packed. From music festivals and international concerts to sporting events and outdoor experiences, April is full of surprises. Here are the highlights to add to your diary.

MAMA JAZ 2026: A full month dedicated to musical creation

It's impossible to talk about April in Mauritius without mentioning MAMA JAZ, a unique fixture in the local cultural scene. For its 11th edition, the festival returns with an ambitious programme focused on creativity, improvisation, and artistic expression.

Every Wednesday evening, the “Gran Konser” sessions take place at the Galerie du Génie in Port Louis. These concerts offer a deep dive into the contemporary Mauritian music scene, showcasing artists exploring a wide range of styles, from jazz and experimental sounds to local influences. Highlights include the opening performance by Yvette Dantier, followed by acts such as Ila Rio and the Samuel Laval Quintet, who will close the series.

On weekends, the mood shifts with the Park La Mi Fa gatherings, held every Sunday in a more relaxed outdoor setting. These events combine live music, food, and a friendly atmosphere, making them perfect for families and groups of friends.

The festival concludes on April 30 with International Jazz Day, celebrated worldwide and serving as a reminder of Mauritius's place on the regional music scene.

Mystik Garden Festival with Nitefreak – April 11

The Mystik Festival returns after several months away with a new edition hosted at The Residence Mauritius, a premium beachfront venue.

The event will feature international DJ Nitefreak, performing an exclusive two-hour live-recorded set. In total, more than six local artists and several international performers are scheduled to take the stage.

Mystik stands out for its immersive experience: a large-scale stage with giant screens, visual shows, lounge areas, food corners, and VIP/VVIP access, including dedicated spaces, meet-and-greet opportunities, and backstage access.

Chico & The Gypsies at Trianon Convention Centre – April 25

On April 25, the Trianon Convention Centre will host Chico & The Gypsies for the first time in Mauritius.

Led by Chico, co-founder of the Gipsy Kings, the group delivers a vibrant mix of Catalan rumba, flamenco, and Latin rhythms. Their repertoire includes iconic hits such as Bamboleo and Djobi Djoba.

Tickets are available via Otayo and Noubook, and strong demand is expected for this festive, cross-generational concert filled with nostalgia.

The Prophecy live in Cascavelle – April 24

Lakaz Cascavelle will welcome The Prophecy on April 24 for a high-energy night of music.

The lineup includes DJ sets by Avi S, Moon Jr, Ans, and Dilan, building momentum throughout the evening. Tickets are available both in advance and at the door, with different pricing tiers encouraging early booking.

Cello concert at the Institut français de Maurice – April 17

The Institut français de Maurice will host a concert by the Cello Stereo duo, featuring Marie Ythier and Anne Chauveau.

The programme highlights the French cello repertoire, with works by Auguste Franchomme and Jean-Baptiste Barrière. The evening concludes with an adaptation of La Rivière Tanié, a well-known lullaby from the Indian Ocean region.

Jazz Night with the Philippe Thomas Quintet – April 18

In Rivière Noire, the Black Pirates Restaurant will host a jazz evening with the Philippe Thomas Quintet.

Starting at 9 pm, the group performs in an intimate setting, ideal for a relaxed night out. Reservations are recommended, as the event regularly attracts a loyal crowd of live music enthusiasts.

Crossing Realms – an immersive musical journey – April 18

On April 18, The Green Village will host Crossing Realms, an event by Synergetic Vibes that continues their series of immersive experiences blending electronic music, scenography, and collective connection.

Running until dawn—nearly 14 hours—the event is designed as more than just a party. It offers a full sensory journey built around live performances and carefully curated sets. Artists Audible Thought and Mora will guide the audience through evolving soundscapes, while Gaia Groove will launch their debut EP, marking a key moment for the local scene.

The experience also includes:

  • immersive scenography and detailed decor
  • a professionally calibrated sound system
  • live artistic performances
  • chill-out spaces and rest areas
  • a market featuring local creators and artisans
  • food and drinks available on-site

The atmosphere aims to be both festive and mindful, attracting a crowd looking for a deeper, more immersive musical experience.

Health, Food and Wellness Fair – April 17 to 19

For three days, the Trianon Convention Centre will host an event entirely dedicated to well-being.

Visitors will have the opportunity to meet health and nutrition professionals, take part in practical workshops, and discover products linked to healthier lifestyles. The event is open to both enthusiasts and anyone looking to improve their daily habits, offering accessible and practical advice.

French Touch at Ravenala Attitude – April 18

Head to Balaclava on April 18 for a beachfront electro event, French Touch, celebrating the 10th anniversary of La Isla Social Club.

From 5 pm to 11 pm, several artists will perform, including well-known names such as Demon and Jef K, alongside local talent. The event combines DJ sets, live performances, and a sunset atmosphere in a tropical setting. Special packages including accommodation are also available for those who want to extend the experience.

Brahms' German Requiem at Caudan Arts Centre – April 25 and 26

On April 25 and 26, the Caudan Arts Centre will present a performance of Brahms' German Requiem, lasting approximately 90 minutes.

The piece will be performed in a version for choir and two pianos, featuring both international and local musicians. The concert explores themes of grief, humanity, and hope in a way that is both accessible and deeply moving.

Médine Trail in Yemen Reserve – April 25

The Médine Trail offers several race formats set in an exceptional natural environment:

  • 5 km (fun run, starting at 8:30 am)
  • 13 km (starting at 7:00 am)
  • 28 km (starting at 6:00 am)

The event attracts both experienced runners and amateurs, with routes offering spectacular views across the reserve.

Nando's Open Water Swim at Pereybère – April 26

On April 26, Pereybère Beach will host Mauritius's largest open water swimming competition.

Several formats are available: children's races, 1.6 km, 3.8 km, or a combination of both distances. The event also promotes water safety, with part of the proceeds donated to the Royal Life Saving Society.

Le Sud Sauvage hike – April 26, 9 am

This guided hike offers an immersive experience in the wild south of the island, taking participants through the cliffs of Gris-Gris, Mamzel waterfall, and natural pools.

The outing starts at 9 am and is affordably priced at Rs 300. It includes several points of interest, with an optional cave visit. Advance booking via WhatsApp is recommended.

Z'ImproviZ: touring improvised theatre

Throughout April, the Z'ImproviZ troupe will perform in several venues, including the Institut français and Ti Kaz Kreol.

Each show is based entirely on improvisation and audience interaction. A drink is included with entry, and limited seating makes for a highly engaging and immersive experience.

MCB Ladies Classic at Constance Belle Mare Plage – from April 29

The month concludes with the MCB Ladies Classic, a golf tournament bringing together players from the Ladies European Tour.

The competition spans several days, starting with a press conference on April 29, followed by the opening rounds in early May on the Legend Golf Course.
