Expiring Soggiorno | Within Italy (Pisa to Sardinia) with PO receipt

Hi,

I am a PhD student in Pisa whose Soggiorno is expiring next month. I plan to visit Sardinia 2 weeks after the expiry. I have already applied for the renewal and have the receipt from the Post Office. Will I be facing any problem travelling within Italy at the airport with the expired Soggiorno and the Post office receipt?

PS: I couldnt find 'inside italy' travelling thread in the recent posts.
Best Regards
- Sahana

Hi Sahana,

Welcome to Expat.com

First of all, have you contacted the authorities to see how far the application is in the line of being processed? When did you send it off? I have an understanding it can take between 30 - 45 days.

Like with any paperwork that gives you the right to stay, I advise it's not wise to chance it, if it is out of date or you don have a valid one. It is hit or miss if you get an OK official. Some might see that you are just slightly out of date and see the receipt and not be any bother. On the other hand, you might well get a pain in the "rear end" and could cause you a heap of trouble.

Hi SimCityAT,

Thank you so much for your reply.

I applied on 1st March and my visa expires on 9th April. I am yet to go for my biometrics on 16th March. I have not checked the status of the process yet. Is there an online portal where I can check the status? I was hoping to not be in trouble considering I will not leave the country (travelling within Italy). But never know how things will be at the airport.

Waiting to hear back

Hey Sahana3,

I have found 3 links for you, I hope one will be of use if not all.

Good luck

As long as you have got the (recevuta)receipt of application for a renewal u should be ok.But the fact remains that you only need to present your Carta di Identita issued to you at your Comune of residence for travels not beyond italy if you have one.
