Hello, I need to go back to USA my home country for 90-100 days. Are there any rules how long I can be outside Italy on a 5yr Permesso di Soggiorno? I can’t find any info on official website.

M Hunt

If you stay in a country for 186 days you are then considered a tax resident in that country, so I suggest you ensure you are in Italy for longer than that and less than that in the USA, hope this makes sense?

@M Hunt Thank you for the info. Yes, makes sense 😊 Have a good day!

@M Hunt surely its different for different countries? Is that number really universal applied?

As far as Europe is concerned and the UK 186 day stay = tax residency. However if you are not from the EU a stay of 90 max without a visa is permissible more than that  you need a visa.

As for USA and further afield I cannot say for certain it is always best to check on the countries government website for information or contact the consulate.
