My experience is to immediately find a local supermarket and get some stuff in from there.

I am not even sure what English food is apart from the obvious.

Pizza, curry and kebabs could all be English these days.

I just find it funny, going to a foreign country and expect to be served English food. You want English food, go on holiday in the England.

As far as I know we have no English blood in us. My half siblings are 1/4th Irish though.

My mother however cooked English food, mince meat pies, chicken pot pies, roasts with gravy, scones,IDK but perhaps it was more of a mix of English and New England food? Her mother and grandmother had both been household cooks for wealthy families. In fact my Ruysn grandmother was also a personal cook in Conn; for a wealthy family.

It was tasty . She made the best perogies.

My eldest sister lived in the UK for over a decade, she is a good cook; She came back to the states and would make lamb with mint sauce,curries all sorts of foods she ate in the UK.

Who dose not like fish and chips?

Good food is good no matter what country it is from.

UK definitely has a different cuisine to the USA.  We get criticised in the UK for having crap food but it's just what you are brought up with.  Fish and chips is the obvious one but UK is an island so it's inevitable the fruits of the ocean figure in the national diet.  Potatoes are obviously an import.   Roast beef with beef gravy, lamb with mint sauce, pork with apple sauce - all classics.  Tasty to get your buds working!

Irish food is pretty much the same as UK food with the exceptional addition of the heavenly god-designed Guinness.   I don't drink but I look back fondly on my pint of the black stuff.  Lovely.   If only they did a zero calories, zero sugar, zero alcohol version. No, it's not called water.

Not being nasty here, really I'm not, I'm just going to say that some of the US food would seem inedible or at least undesirable.  I was stunned I could not find  bread in the USA without sugar in it.  No "artisan" bread to be had in walking distance aka normal bread here.

I'm not sure there are really indigenous US recipes could be exported and be popular unless you count fast food, McDs, KFC, BK etc.  It's not like I could put my finger on something and say, that's US food made popular here.   Oreos seem to be making inroads.  Not too bad the Euro versions.

But grits, whatever is that supposed to be?  Kind of maize porridge? And scones and gravy? What's that for?   It's not really "tasty" or nice looking.  Sorry, not meaning to be harsh but I found it difficult in the US to find anything that wouldn't kill me in the long term.  Lashings of Maple syrup (sugar bomb, Canadian anyway in origin).   Pretzels?  Just no, no and no.

I was in SF with Mrs F and we had Chinese.  It was absolutely terrible. I was really disappointed.   It's like they'd used the same ingredients one would find anywhere but somehow they sucked all the life out of everything.  No spices, no flavourings, no sauce.  I do know these things are adapted to local taste but surely people know what things really should taste like.  Or are people afraid of a bit of ginger or cumin or chili peppers?

I don't just reserve my ire for the US menu, if I see another HU menu with bone soup on it, I'll go nuts!   It's like the story of stone soup without the stones or the contributors vegetables/additions.   I can see no merit in bone soup whatsoever.  Talk about cheap BS!

We're off to the countryside Sunday (was Saturday, changed it) and we'll be stopping for lunch as usual.  I am sure we'll be up the creek with food.  Last time we had mixed grill.  Also known as mixed gristle!  Standards have dropped considerably.   You need to be a qualified surgeon to find the meat in the gristle haystack.  Bonkers!

My own Daddio passed in 2023 which is sad.  Any family passing is sad.

But I hope at least most of my kids will remember. I've already got a card from one of them!

I do not take any offence about ragging on the US diet.

I agree with the exception of a once in a blue moon trip to Taco Bell. Just one bean burrito is all I order. never wasted more then a buck there at any given time. Now I guess the prices are over $5; for a burrito so that is another one that bites the dust!

My mother worked full time but always had a homemade meal ready every night.

She rarely bought potato chips or sweets, snacks would be an apple or carrot sticks; We were too darn poor to buy junk food.  After she remarried my step dad had strict rules about snacks and waste; If they bought cookies,ice cream or snacks we had to ask first, wait till dinner was over with and only take a small bit because we all shared 8 ways.

We only had soda once in awhile at the beach in a can; Never bought name brand colas, more like orange, root beer or grape.

I never really gave my son too much junk food either;

We might of eaten at McDonalds once growing up, cheaper to make burgers fresh at home on the backyard grill. My step dad made the best BBQ sauce.

Yesterday my halfie sister turned 59!

I remember the day she was born. It was a school day but I woke up about 4 am to sit with my mother who was in labor; She was cooking pasta sauce, a huge pot of it so we had some fresh meals while she was in hospital.

I will never forget that, an elderly Italian women taught my mother how to make her sauce when my mom was a child. She still followed the recipe. Took hours and hours on the stove.

Grew up on only homemade foods usually English based or Slavic ones.

Went to the lake yesterday, first swim suit swim day of the season.

It was peaceful but a few odd things happened on the way there and the way home;

Typical Hungarian day out, always something nutty going on!

Took the train over, had to us the WC but our stop was coming up so decided to wait till we got to the station and use theirs.

Got a surprise but thankfully not a view! Pushed the door open only to have it slammed in my face. I did catch a quick glance of what was going on. IDK can add up 2 and 2; Some guy standing near the door with his shorts down and the figure of someone kneeling in front of him!!!! Get a room already!!!

Needless to say I walked on , fast!

On the way home while going up the staircase of our building some Hipster dude was coming down the stairs with his dirty looking mut of a dog. Dog was off lead, dogs usually like me but not this monster.

The guy was trailing his dog by 2 stairs and I was 2 stairs down from the dog when he stopped growled with his teeth showing at me:

It was dim in the stairwell and my husband did not see the dog, only got a shock when it barked so loud and it echoed inside. My husband nearly fell backwards down the stairs!

I froze but was not afraid, had a metal beach chair in my hand and would of hit the dog in the throat if he moved any closer to me. All the hipster jerk did was mildly call out the word, Marhus, which is meat which my husband said is slang for stupid; Well no sorry to us from that dude; I just gave him a cold stare and passed by. I did however look in my handbook of numbers for animal control; Next time I will be calling if it happens again. What a jerk that guy was, if my husband had fallen and cracked his skull I would of done them both in , dog and owner. What is wrong with people, they are so out of control and have animals who are also out of control.

Not even safe in your own building.

(Not so) Blinking Internet:

Been a real muddle today.  Had a power failure earlier and it's been nothing but trouble trying to put it all back in working order.  It looks like it caused the failure of a key piece of kit.   It's dead but not quite dead as a dodo.  More like in a coma waiting for that signal to wake it up.  Might have been over voltage as it tripped out the entire house.   This isn't the first time.   I wish IT equipment was more organic.  If I left it alone, maybe it'd heal itself.  Fat chance! I've given it a heart transplant which is unhelpful.  Like putting a pigs heart in a horse.  It'll do for now but long term, it ain't that good.

I am, as of right now, baffled why we cannot reach the Internet except via emergency measures.  No doubt, it'll come to me eventually.  When it works, it works really well, when it doesn't you need the patience of a saint.

Oh dear, aggressive dogs on the stairs.   I don't know why people want dogs that frighten people.  Of course, owners claim they are big softies but I'm not sure. I reckon any dog, and I mean ANY, can turn on the owners at any moment.  I like our dog of course but do I trust it, no, absolutely not. And certainly not with little kids.    Animals need a firm hand - I don't mean violent - but just general assertiveness and confidence to be handled.  They are all jockeying for position who is the alpha and they are all quite dumb.  I begin to think dogs - all of them - need to go to dog school along with their owners.

Our trip to the countryside had a stop at Cserkeszőlő where we had a kind of lunch/dinner at the local spa  (map).  Mrs F and I had Pörkölt with galuska.  My BIL and Mrs F's uncle (UIL? Uncle in Law?) had a mutton based version which he seemed specifically keen on.  It's amazing people go to the spa and stuff their faces with fries, schnitzel and beer.   I thought it was supposed to be healthy.   Anyway, the  Pörkölt was another exercise in surgery to de-gristle it.  I could only get through half before I gave up as it was like chewing rubber. The rest came home with us for the doggy.  She has no qualms about scoffing it all down.  I wonder if dogs savour food as they try and get it down without it touching the sides.

Even though we were at a spa, there was no time for swimming - we were all dirty from clearing out my MIL's two sheds.  Full of crap like old bicycles, cooker, duff cables, old tools and just rubbish.  I don't think anyone actually ever slept there.  Be more hygienic to sleep in a tent.  It's a nice place but it's simply too far from us. We're abandoning everything there for new owners - if they can be recruited.  People don't have money.  Not that it's worth a lot.      It's a shame that people's things are so easily discarded after they've passed.  They thought they had value but those who have to clean up think they are junk.   We all live in dread of clearing out the MIL's main house.  It's just bonkers there - tatty old grand piano, thousands of books and old furniture that would look good in a museum or funeral home.  Maybe it'll take a year to clear it.

I've seen people going at it on a train. I wondered if there was sufficient time as on that journey it, we only had 30 minutes between departure and arrival.  I suppose no-one was expecting a getting to know you phase, bit of chit-chat and some social niceties before getting down to the main event and presumably achieving a happy ending.  I do agree though, get a room if they are that keen and so that others don't have to see the show.

Today should be warmer than yesterday.  It's back to the grindstone for some.   Don't see any further holidays until August.  But every day is a holiday for retired people (and those who aspire to it).

Yesterday was actually chilly, at least it was for me.

Today is nice, not hot enough to go swimming for me though.

Yes,dogs, all of them small or large need training.

My husband said that hipster dude seemed to enjoy having a stupid dog who scared people, low I.Q. idiot!

We sometimes hear a dog barking for ages, probably the same mutt. Thing was it pissed me off and really other then hurting my ears with it,s stupid bark it did not scare me. I could see if was not a smart animal, like it;s owner. It needed a bath too.Dusty looking fur. Not the dogs fault, who on earth would have a 45 to 50 lbs plus size dog and live in a tiny flat?? How cruel.

I am going to brag now, not about myself but our Doberman, Max, Maximillen.

He was Beautiful physically and mentally. He was very tall and although he weighed 108Lbs; he was not fat, just big boned as they say. Powerful and sweet.

Sleek, muscular and smart. Dobbies are known to be the 5th smartest breed and he was that.

They are super cool dogs, never bark if there is no reason for it, if they do bark, it is business time.

Only witnessed our Max get in business  mode 2 times in 12 years; Both times it was the thing to do.

Once while passing an elderly man with a mean looking German Shepard, the man was holding a large stick, my Max gave a watch out growl to the other dog.

The next time I have mentioned before, a young couple living in a house across from us had a break in;

They were watching tv about 11pm on a hot summers evening and only had their screen door for protection;

Some dude running up tress and down trees in his underwear just walked into their living room and started a fist fight with the owner.

The guy had been in the next homes trees, a home with and elderly widow living there;

He got the drugged out guy out of his home but the guy proceeded to climb up his front lawns tree.

Our Max had been quietly going inside our house and out to the back yard. He did not make a sound, I only heard the swinging of his doggie door as he ran around.

We got up to see what was up, by then the cops had the guy down from the tree, lights on and them chatting with the home owner. Then our Max let out a warning bark. He had gone a bit nuts when we stepped out in our yard, he was pacing between my husband and myself, all nervous, shaking with his hackles up and a low growl like the demon dog they are called; He could not decide who to protect, me or my husband, it really upset him. We knew then he was our protector and would die for us.

He could also be trusted with children, of course I never would test him beyond his limits as we had no small children around for him to get used to. He was very gentle with my then infant nephew, just smelled him and stared.

I used to be stopped on the st; when I walked him, some people even stopped their cars to ask if he was a breeder or not, I told them no and they all seemed upset that I had him fixed. Did that after he turned a year old, have to wait that long for large breeds as they are still growing.

As far as we know however, it was an issue because I promised the seller I would not breed him because we had no papers on him, he was a rescue. Well, my husband and his HU friend couple knew a guy in Korea town with a female Dobbie in heat. An older women so to speak, she was a couple years old while my baby was about 10 months old. My husband against my words took him for a visit 2 times to have a date.

I felt terrible about it, I do not break promises and I also felt he was still a puppy.

Story went there were puppies then that HU couple changed the story saying there were no puppies; I had wanted pick of the litter as is custom. This is the HU couple that now lives here in Budapest; I resent them allot, think they made some bucks with their friend in Korea town off of our dog.

Crazy to think of a dog as a child but I felt that way about our dog.

I don't think it was their fault (I mean Telekom - as we call it here, not a typo, it's with a K).   We've got 3 phase electricity here which is very unusual these days.  The electrician put too much stuff on one of the phases and not enough on the other phases.  So it gets a bit overloaded.   It's kind of interesting, the default supply now (here) is up to 20A on new builds which is almost nothing when you tot up airco and all the (f***ing) gadgets.  We can get up to 60A (3 x 20A).  If we had an electric car, we'd be charging it in an hour instead of 8h overnight (maybe).

But you are quite right, random failure is the name of the game.  After a bit of research, I realise now that particularly device (a switch) does not follow the manufacturer's normal design.  We can push the reset button on the other gear for 10s and it resets it.  There's a controller which then adopts the devices into the network.  I can access the controller directly from my laptop and also via my phone.

We have a lot of devices - about 30+ connected.  Anyway,  that one particular bit of kit needs 30s.   Someone lost their marbles that day by making it 30s and not 10s.   It's come back now but I've still got to get it back in the rack.  Just a PITA to do on my own.

Since it's out of the rack, I'll take the cover off and give it a hoover in case it's overheating.  Dust is a serious problem here and any electronics are magnets for that stuff.    I don't know where it comes from.  We hoover continuously and even have a robot hoover but still the dust keeps arriving.  I think it's because we're almost in the countryside.  Winter is quite bad - it rains wood ash from all the neighbours trying to get cosy.  It's a nuisance as ash blocks the drains as it falls on the roof.  Harmless otherwise.

Anyway, now I know it's working, I'll have to take out my bodge replacement and put it back in the rack and connect everything back up to it.

But before I do any of that, I think it's doggy walking time!

Mass school shooting in Graz, Austria. 5 dead. Breaking story, so not much to go by yet.

SimCityAT

At least 9 dead, and the shooter killed himself, many injured.

Terrible.

I thought guns were more controlled in Europe then in the US.

5 dead is so sad.

Back in the day all we had to worry about in Ca; schools was getting stabbed, beat up or in the case of my friend Holly, peed on from a passing car while walking.

My 2 older sisters went to a HS in a tough area for a year before we moved.

Lots of gangs.

The girls were the worst; Girls did their hair  all sprayed up with Aqua Net and hid razor blades in their hair;

In fights when they hair was being pulled, their opponents hands would get cut up.

Once on the bus home a girl set fire to another girls hair.

My BFFs older sister went to HS with my sisters after we moved. Not much safer, her sisters face had slash scares on it from a razor fight.

My friends and I were targets of a low rider gang. Not fun, the school staff did not protect us, they did allow us to ask in the office anytime to use their teachers WC so as to avoid us getting a beat down in the girls WC.

I was jumped once by 2 chicks that did not even attend my school. They ent to the trouble markers school but came to urs to visit some of their gang buddies.

Was hit hard on the back of my head with a 3 inch thick history book.

Fight was on! It got broken up when finally the teachers came out of their break room.

I do not understand why people still take their children to public or now even private schools when they are not protected.

According to the Salzburger Nachrichten, the alleged perpetrator and former student is believed to have shot at students in two classrooms. One of the two classrooms is believed to have been the 22-year-old's former classroom. The alleged perpetrator is said to have carried and legally owned two weapons – a pistol and a shotgun.

This is sad news and a high death toll.

Of course gun ownership is quite high comparatively in Austria where hunting is a hobby.   We get tourists around here going to a hunting area nearby.  They stay at a luxurious lodge.   It's not really proper hunting as the animals are simply kept in a fenced off area where the hunters can kill them without spilling their beer.   Not my idea of fun.

I'm not I hope saying something funny but I have always had the impression that odd things go on in Graz.  There's a parallel thing here in HU at the town/city of Pecs.   If anything weird happens, it's always seems to be there.

10 or 11 dead including the shooter with lots more injured. Death toll could rise. Its been suggested that bullying is to blame and was a revenge attack.

News conference to be held this afternoon with more information.

22 years old and still stuck mentally in his HS years.

He did not even assault  the people who bullied him in school, just some innocent children that did not know him from a hole in the ground.

May they RIP.

We knew a couple of Hungarian guys who hunted.

One worked with my husband in Ca; and was single. He made good money and every year or two he would go on a huge hunting trip; Went to Africa a few times to hunt;

He had a Vizsla dog that was trained in Germany and shipped to him in Ca.

The other hunter was really just a nice guy we met once at the machine shop who went with friends for the first time for a hunt in Ca.

He was shot in the head by another member of a hunting group by accident.

Hung on for a couple weeks but passed; His ex wife and son were in hospital everyday with him till it was over.

The police collected everyones guns but the case was never solved.

We used to go target shooting all the time with our step father in the desert in Ca.

It was fun until my teen sisters got upset. Our step dad shot a rabbit and they flipped out. called him every name they could from killer to murderer and cried their eyes out.

He never took us shooting again.

Last time I went shooting was in New Mexico when my brother visited us. he drove from NC to NM just so he could bring his guns with him.

Within hours of him arriving at our place we got the call our sister had passed away in Ca.

I was grateful he was there with me but at the same time that news ruined our visit with him. I was a mess.

I did go with my brother and husband the next day to let off some steam.

Shot his machine guns and handguns into every target there was out of frustration and sadness.

I have to say , it helped with stress.

I much prefer a yoga class these days to shooting though.

These are the hunting lodges around here which people use to shoot up animals for their entertainment.  I am not comfortable with the concept.

Pilisparkerdo Budakeszi

Nice looking place - like a luxury hotel or club.   I believe it's expensive to rent for a private function like a wedding.

For shooting, there's a a price list as well - Price List for Hunting - like 20K EUR for a driven hunt with 10 participants and a "daily bag" of whatever they can gun down.

If people can afford these prices, then they can afford to undergo rigorous psychological testing and storage of their weapons at secure supervised locations, i.e. not at their homes.

I've operated guns in a military context and I used to go pistol shooting when I was younger.  The rules were very clear back then. Safety is paramount.  Guns are for one thing only and that's to kill things.  It's a serious business and definitely not for entertainment except on a supervised range.   I cannot see any reason why guns need to be kept at people's houses.

I just found out some disturbing news from decades ago.

My Vegas friend was allot closer to our deceased school mate who passed from brain cancer a few years ago then I was.

She told me that Teri,s mother was raped while she was at work.

She picked up a job as a school janitor, never even knew Teris mom ever held a job.

So shocking to hear that happened to a mother of 5 and in our little city/town.

So many secrets.

IDK if they ever caught the perp or not.

I suppose all too late for DNA evidence.   DNA is pretty damning.

I've heard many rape victims immediately get washed rather than get to the police and be sampled.   Sampling needs to be done even though it must be hard to think rationally in all the rush of emotions and shock.

I had a contact whose son was raped in some kind of incident when he was a student.   Apparently it was not reported to police and no samples taken.   I was horrified that the perp was going to get away with it but my contact was relatively dismissive and very oddly passive about it.  I told her (yes, the Mum) to watch out for her son's mental health.  It had to have seriously affected him in ways that may come out later.

It's not the same but we've been burgled  (as I've said before) and it's a real shock on the violation of one's family space.  The idea that someone could do that with such lack of respect takes some getting used to.  I can imagine rape being 100 x worse.

Come to think of it, I've (we've) been burgled twice - once here and once in the UK and had other crimes like my car being broken into  twice - once here, once in the UK and my entire car was stolen in 1996.  Never got that one back although it was discovered eventually.  Took about 15 years for them to find it.  Partially I think that was down to the EU providing forensic kits for things like body/chassis number changes.

I got a replacement car on the insurance which I kept variously in a metal cage with the wheels off and also kept in the UK for 2 years. It took some years before I could drive it back to HU where it now lives as my hobby car.  By then it was undesirable as it was too old.   It might be more desirable now as it becomes a rarity.   We cannot even get full cover insurance for it.  The parts are hardly available now so probably that's one reason.  Any thief or "new owner" would need to be an enthusiast to keep it running.  I might be one of the only nerd experts in HU on that particular model  so any crook with it would be asking help from me.  Uh oh!

My friends mom was a short little heavy set mommie.

Breaks my heart to think she was abused by some jack a@@;

Our town later turned city was so far off from even the SF valley. She was there for me when I dislocated my knee and also when I cracked my head being thrown off a horse. I used to do her mothers hair when I was in beauty school as well.

I am disgusted to hear about your friends son; My gosh, it must really do in the male ego to be abused like that. In a case like that, I would forgo all my morals and hire someone to do that thing in or at least bring it to me. No moral issue with taking out the trash. I would take whatever happened, jail, or worst.

IDK, I know my mother would also the same for us.

One reason I could harm my ex DIL is because she had my son arrested in Vegas; Just a 24 hour hold but he never in his life was in serious trouble, him with his skinny body and red hair. He later told me he got all gangster, even gave his pillow and blanket to someone for protection. What a sick world we live in.

We paid his bail straight away but they still force people to stay behind bars for 24 hours. I can not tell you how many times my husband has had to talk me down from visiting her mothers house.

I am a very forgiving person but when it comes to family, I can go old school without a second thought.

I am working on forgiveness. not easy.

I remember when my sons arm was broken by a older and larger boy in school; After the fact when he was still wearing an arm sling and between his many surgeries, I got a call from a store from the manager.

My 12 year old son had gone to the shop with a younger boy and ran into his arm breaker in the mall;

He asked for help to get home without dealing with the fat older kid.

I drove right over, just dropped everything and ran;

I saw the ugly boy in the parking lot, he was in my sights and saw me looking at him; I had to pray to Jesus out loud not to run him down, Ooops an accident! So sorry, not really.

Scared the brat could see the fear in his eyes. Never enjoyed gunning my engine so much, ever!

Doing the right thing is hard at times. I thought if I get arrested it will do my son no good; Then     again, if he was harmed worst, nothing to lose on my side.

Evil comes in all forms from a terrorist to a housewife protecting her family.Think the latter is more dangerous.

Grrrr....another power cut. Just typical of here. This one seems to be in the area. All the burglar alarms have gone off. And I was in the middle of making coffee!

Update:

Power cut lasted 40m.  Whole village was "off" and FB was awash with compliants.   My entire afternoon has been screwed up by that. I was planning to do a load of gardening but the wind has be like a hurricane and then the power cut and blah-blah, have to get everything reset like clocks on appliances and its now too late to do anything. Jeez, thanks MVM (power company).

Downloading The Alamo.  That is one long film.  The longest version goes to over 3h but the cinema version went to 160m or so.   A lot of the prints were lost and technology for digital scanning only got them at lower resolution.  However, a later effort may have restored the prints on 70mm film stock.  Remarkable they are able to restore degraded film these days using digital technology.   The downloaded Blue Ray version online is 25GB.  That's one big movie file.  John Wayne thought it was his life's work apparently and was a bit of tyrant on set and all sorts happened including murder of a bit player.   He lost quite a bit of money on it.

I always liked John Wayne movies but his politics sucked big time.  I remember Elizabeth Taylor in some Congressional hearing that  Wayne should be given the Purple Heart.  Now come on Liz, he wasn't really a military hero, he played one in movies and his only danger was maybe not getting his lunch on time.  Anyway, both dead so who cares now.

I also had a fractured (not broken) arm.   The perp was my slightly older brother.  I seem to remember I'd taken his toy tank and was playing with it and he was angry and kicked me.   I was about 5 or 6 and maybe he was 8.  My parents thought I was trying it on crying but I remember it really hurt.   It took quite a lot of crying to get me to the hospital and an X-ray.   I think my parents were really surprised. The good news was it was just a fracture but I did get a plaster cast which made me interesting to others at school.  I did of course get my cast scribbled on.  I kept it for a long time but like most things, it just disappeared.  Probably just fell to bits and went in the trash - like so many of my treasures of the time.

I cannot blame you for being protective of your kid.  Any parent should fight to the death to look after their children. I was horrified when Mrs F and I visited a German concentration camp one year.  We were obviously tourists - that seems like bad taste.   It was Dachau outside of Munich.  I'd gone for a job interview and we had an weekend there before our flight back.  I really was upset by the inhumanity of it all.  And Dachau wasn't even the worst one by numbers.  What I'm trying to say is in those circumstances, there was nothing the parents could do about their children.  The Nazis were going to kill them all anyway.   But from the exhibits, I can see they tried to care for them until the last minute.  Just awful.

I'm wondering about these soldiers in LA.  Surely LA is so large, the Feds are just at a few buildings.  Sending 1000s of troops is complete overkill even if it was necessary.    The main trouble seems to be in Paramount which is a separate city to LA and has its own mayor.  As an observer, it seems to me no problem for the Angelenos (documented or undocumented) to wave their Mexican flags.  Why not?  It's their right to do that as it's free speech.   And it's just a bit of cloth.   It's not like Iran where they burn the US flag and stamp on it and everyone sensible thinks they are misguided to think anyone is truly upset about it.

I keep thinking I'll put a Union Jack (British flag) up on the King's birthday and the English flag on St George's Day or even the EU flag.   We are supposed to put out HU flags on the National Day.   We haven't got one of those.   If I fly a HU flag and one other, why should anyone care about it?

Just got home from my 6 month oncology visit, All good, they could find nothing wrong!!!!!

My cancer had a 80% cure rate but that 20% is not good; Got it early too.

Some people suffer allot with it and the side effects can be terrible.

I firmly believe in herbs and vitamins and controlling ones mental state.

I believe allot of my good results came from staying calm and eating right.

Sad thought to see so many people in the clinic. It was a breeze today as well, less then 45 mins , been days there when it took several hours to get out.

I am a bit upset to hear about my friends mom being attacked.

It happened in 1979. She took on a part time job cleaning a school at night and a white guy was the perp;They never caught him but they did have her go to the morgue to look at a body to see if it was him. Terrible to have to do that on top of being attacked. No idea if she told my mother or not, she came to my step dads funeral in 1980 and they called each other once in awhile.

No one talked about these things much back then, maybe best to try and forget it.

My sons arm break was very stressful; I was told he had bone cancer at first!

I saw his x rays and before the doctor said a word, I could tell they were messed up; His bone looked like a sponge with holes all over! He had a rare bone disease that not every doctor knows how to treat; He never had a cast on his arm, even after 3 breaks and 3 surgeries, they just gave him a sling to wear that could be removed for bathing. Long story but his arm stopped growing after the break near the growth plate; His arm is IDK nearly 3 inches shorter then the healthy one. UCLA was going to fix that too but my son said he would live with it as he was so sick of surgeries. They planned on putting a sort of cage around his arm and placing screws in the bone that we would have to turn daily to stretch the bone and force it to knit longer. They said it was very painful and would take over a year, maybe longer.

The condition is called, a Unicameral bone cyst. Told me it just happens when a child is around 3 years old and it goes without notice until it gets so large and the bone so weak that it snaps like glass;

He gets me upset sometimes because he does too many push ups and then his arm hurts. He should do something else to stay in shape.

My brother broke my nieces arm by accident when he was winging her around by her arms, all fun and games until it broke!

I think the ICE and president have the legal right to protect the US boarders and can legally overstep the Gov and Mayor. It is in the rule book. In any case, what nerve they have to break into shops, burn and steal just because they are being called out for entering illegally into the US? My friend was deported from Sweden and no one had a riot for her in Sweden. I really hope my friend avoids that protest , No Kings this Saturday. She could get hurt badly, these sorts of people would pull her out of her chair and roll away if they had to. No respect for a handicapped old lady.

My husband was joking about it, asking what sort of custom she would be wearing for this protest, Can not dress like a Patriot so guess he had to dress like a Bandito.

Pleased to hear it went well at the Docs.  It must weigh heavily on you.  I know my test results weigh heavily on me. It's like one of those school exams which is vital and you don't know if you're going to pass.   There's a lot of cancer around.  We know a few people who have it or had it.  Lung, breast and all sorts.   Puts things in a different perspective.

I suppose they can still lengthen your son's arm using the screws and bolts.  I know my arm ached something rotten when it was healing up.  I can imagine it being intolerable for a year.   I've heard of people having their legs lengthened by just a few mm a week.  Bone is constantly being made as it tries to bridge the gap.  Doing it for cosmetic reasons might be a step too far.   I did read about someone doing it with their legs to be much taller and it was such a length that it had weakened everything and the new leg was in danger of breaking.  I guess they should have left it as it was.  Small people are cute.   I'm married to one! And I'm working on it myself as I get older.

As I posted in "International Relations",  there's no way the President can deploy the National Guard on to the streets to act as law enforcement.  It's in the law that the Governor is in charge of the National Guard and they cannot be deployed without his say so.   Certainly the Marines cannot be on the streets acting as law enforcement without the President calling it an Insurrection.   There's no insurrection and Trump is trying it on.   ICE themselves are acting like thugs.  They must like dressing up in military gear and terrorising people - illegal or not.  Who are they hiring? Psycopaths?  It's not something you see on a daily basis anywhere else.   And Ron de Santis said people can run protestors over with their cars.  Like WTF?  Some loons will take that seriously.  Oh, Ron said, Donny said it.  I've got permission.  Come on, that's looney!   Be like those idiots drinking bleach to cure COVID.  Just because Donny said it could work.  What an idiot.!

I like the idea of being dressed as a bandito but maybe she needs to dress as Marie Antoinette.  She was wildly out of touch with the revolution going on around her.  She had unfettered power.  Like most fascists and as I said before, it doesn't usually end well for them.

That is wild to say run them down.

Yes, not allot of difference really between a cop or a criminal; Both have to be willing to step over the line of what is moral.

That being said, my ex SIL the Army MP was a straight shooter sort of person and had a heart.

My husbands grandfather was a Hungarian police officer, a high ranking one.

He was the purchasing agent for all the police horses. Like the Queens, Kings guard horses in the UK would be.

Well respected and was one of the boys; Used to train the horses himself as well. Got his hands and I suppose britches dirty, not too good to be thrown if needed. I almost forgot to put the  letter R in britches!

He traveled and bought horses and broke them in himself.This was in the 1930s before the war. He got TB and died leaving his wife with 7 or 8 children.

They went from a good life to a hard one after he died.

They had to move from the nice house the gov; gave them and the eldest son had to start working to help out.

He never married,took care of their mother till her dying day.

My MIL introduced him often to her friends but he was not interested in getting married but played a role raising his siblings and caring for their mother. I met him, he became a commie and was a master at herbal treatments and knowing what teas cured illnesses. He was also a huge fan of the spas. The Rudas in the day was his second home. He knew exactly how long to be in which water for what sickness etc.

Strange guy who lived till about 90.

Yes it is a huge relief to get another good result CT. I have learned over the years to take what doctors say with a few grains of salt, to not jump in and go along with them until you do some research.

In my case my gastro doctor sent me to a surgeon and not straight to oncology. He was ready to start chopping away!! I said no, cried and ran out. Literally had to run away. My husband held back and made sure I was sent to oncology and thank God that was the right choice for me.  I would of offed myself instead of get the radical surgery they suggested; It was major surgery and for what? No reason at all as it turns out.
