Absolutely Anything Else
Death anniversaries are hard.
I thought I was a cool charactor when my mother passed but at the graveside as I approached with my youngest brother, he had to catch me; My legs went out on me!
We came early to the graveside as mom was cremated and it took a couple days to get her ashes back;
I had a full Saab full of flowers from the funeral home that I had in my home over the weekend.
I wanted to have them at her graveside when everyone else showed up.
Great idea but my legs did not think so.
Not a day I like to remember.
Sounds nice having family visit after 17 years. It is strange to see people afteer so many years in person.
I know at the airport I walked right past my eldest sister after many years apart; She had to call out to me!
I also did the same when mt BFF Lisa met us in Vegas; Well over 20 years since our last meet up, she had changed physically so much but as soon as she open her mouth, I knew it was her; We laughed within 2 mins of seeing each other just like in the old days.
Enjoy the visit!
I have my sister and her husband visiting tomorrow for three days. It's only taken 17 years to come and visit me. Neither of them has been to Vienna, which has surprised me as both are teachers and classical music.Wednesday is going to be low-key, just going out for lunch because they will have been up since 3 am and travelling from Cardiff, via Amsterdam. They have just over an hour at Schiphol, which is great, enough time to change gates. The other stopover is something like 6 hours.As neither of them has been to Austria, we will treat them to some proper Austrian cuisine, which will set me back €100, not too bad, €25 a head meal and drinks and will be in Vienna. They will be staying in Vienna, and they found a nice 3-day package at a 4-star hotel. They might as well stay in Vienna, and if they feel up to it, they can go and have a wander around in the evening. Not much they can do around my town, and they would never stay with me anyway. We have a love-hate relationship; we will do anything for each other, borrow, lend money... but to share the same house is a no no. Anyway, it saves them from unnecessary travel back and forth on the train (just over an hour both ways).It will be interesting as they will be experiencing the EES, so let's see if there will be any delays. I've not seen any horror stories in the Austrian news, so it must be going alright. They are also well-travelled and intelligent, so with their part it should be plain sailing. On Facebook, people are commenting when the news reports this, and folk have still not heard anything about it. Just like the passport rule, not having enough months left on it etc.... Blaming the airline or holiday company for not telling them. Jeeez, where have these people been?On Thursday, it will be our mum's anniversary of her passing, so I guess we will be going and lighting a candle for her. So might as well be Stephansdom as its on the list to see and do. Got good weather while they are here, so that's a bonus, just need to fit as much in while they are here, but not to much that they won't enjoy it. - @SimCityAT
17 years is a long time. We're a bit the same. We've hardly had any visitors except my kids and nearly all their partners. I say nearly because one of those partners never comes as he constantly says he has no holidays. But he's able to go to far away countries but not here to Hungary.Â
I've stopped asking people if they want to come.  If any of them came en masse they'd have to stay in hotels in town. We haven't got room for more than 2 people without huge disruption. We did have a bit of a party arranged for my 60th birthday but COVID destroyed it and it was cancelled. Maybe we can try again when I am 70.Â
My cousins came but didn't want to meet up which was a bit strange. I was a bit annoyed but meh, why should I care?
€25 a head is about the same as here. Might be a bit cheaper.  We usually take people to the Trofea chain here - there's a few branches. You get a 3h window to eat and drink (wine/beer/soft drinks) as much as you want from a buffet.  But the price depends on the day and the time.  Easily checked online. Might be places like that in Austria. I know there are Chinese food buffets.
We took our 4 next door neighbors to a Buffet years ago;
Included beer, wine drinks.
Sort of upset us that the daughter, 15 at the time who was invited did not eat more then a dollop of anything. Waste of money; The granny ate OK, the wife and husband did not eat much either and what surprised us the guy had just one beer; At home he guzzled down beer like water.
Our treat but we felt they did not like the place.
Heard only about 12 casinos in Vegas have buffets any longer post covid; The most expensive places. No more free buffets for hours of playing slots. No more free drinks unless you spend allot on play.
My first cousin who I had not seen since I was 4 years old, came to Budapest with his Thai wife 2 times. 58 years years had gone by!
He has a PHD in education and she also worked in the Conn. school system.
He is rather well off, told me his first visit here they had spent over $40,000 just on redoing their kitchen with a $8,000 fridge.
They have traveled the world several times over.
My husband hates sitting in restaurants, he eats and wants to leave ASAP; Not the type to sit sipping wine for hours.
My cousin was spending hundreds an afternoon of stopping for drinks here and there;
My husband hates waste and over indulging oneself; He does not drink these days either.
He dislikes anyone paying our way so he is not a fan of having company/
When we had a family reunion about 9 years ago in Vegas with my siblings and their partners he told me to go alone to eat. I only went with them twice; My husband used to foot the bill for everyone and now days are a retired person it is too much.
He would rather not go then look cheap.
In Poland my 2 distant female cousins organized a dinner in the B&B for about 14 of us.
IDK but all they said was they were a bit surprised later when they got the bill; Another cousin, a gay man who ran the B&B with his Spanish partner charged them way too much.
My cousin who visited us was very generous but we still paid for half the meals out, my husband paid for bottles of wine he never touched. He just wanted everyone to have a good time even if he was not over joyed.

We had free food in LV way back in time. It wasn't that good. It was like in a cafeteria. I think it was just harsh lighting and not very nice. I guess they wanted us to get back into the casino. We went deliberately for the free food but it wasn't worth the effort.
Yes, entertaining family is a bit of a challenge.  Mrs F will be 60 next year but she's decided no parties and no acknowledgment apart from very close family. As No. 1 daughter will fly in around that time, we'll all go to Trofea (as usual) and that'd be it. It's a relatively cheap entertainment. Â
I have no idea what Mrs wants as a present. She always says she doesn't want anything. In the past I've bought her watches and jewellery but she never wears the watches and only uses earrings.
And the kids have long left the idea of presents behind and now it's only cash presents. Fair enough for them.
For me, I'd like things like welding rods but I regularly get things like shower gel etc which is useful but welding rods are more useful. I received a present the other day which was like some weird metal wine bottle carrier with a kind of top cap that looks like a robot. It's a most useless thing. And I don't drink. I think it's "carefully" stored in the cellar. Maybe we can regift it to someone who likes it. Unfortunately we have a number of these from the same person.  From one person who seems to know me now, on my 65th birthday I did receive an OBI gift card which was very nice. I've only bought a tin of yellow paint with it so far. I hope it doesn't run out (the paint and the card).
Anyway, it's Dia de los Muertos (All Saints Day) on Saturday. We're on a trip around the cemeteries in the villages nearby here. We might do some of them on Friday to save time. I'd go to my parents, brother and others if I was in the UK but no chance now as I don't go to that area and it's like 200 miles away from my UK daughter. I might go there sometime but not got any plans any time soon.  We British (nominally failed Anglican) don't have this tradition of putting candles on the graves in the UK as that seems to be a Catholic thing. People should do the candles there as I really like to see the lights. I notice some people have taken up putting stones on top of the gravestones now (Jewish tradition).  I like that idea as well.
I always like getting cash for a gift and buying what suits my fancy.
My BD is so close to Xmas that many times items I want are sold out or the shops are so busy I get no special help from staff when I may want it or not.
I used to wait until Jan; when the sales started.
Someone gave my husband a weird gift years ago; We still are not sure what it is but it looks far to close to a urn to be comfortable even looking at it.
A HU man and his HU wife gave me a necklace years ago. Not my style at all, think I wore it once and it gave me a sore neck; So heavy, black beads with gold beads and ivory ones. Not sure what they are made out of but this couple did not give away junky stuff so probably some semi precious stones?
I do not need it but hate to just toss it out.
It is more for a larger built lady then for me, just way too much for my frame and defo not my style;
One of my fave necklaces was given to be by a casino dealer friend, just a simple leather strap with a camel tooth hanging from it. Might have something to do with voodo? Hope not but it is cool and defo different.
Must have at least 50 pairs of silver earrings which I hardly wear. One is a nice Indian head nickle pair.
Need to sell them on a online site I guess, just too much for me.
I often forget to wear a watch these days let alone diamond and ruby rings.
Who knows they way the economy is I may be trading them for a loaf of bread sometime!
My Vegas friend gave me a gift that I will never use; I nice leather bound diary with super nice paper to write on; My handwriting is terrible and I would be drawing doodles before anything profound.
A total re gift item.
My cousins sent over 2 letters my jailbird bro wrote to her.
Sort of scary stuff going on in jail;
He said the medical staff changes all the time, they could care less if you live or die; He said meds are not given on time, sometimes they under give and at times over give; He got too much blood pressure medication and was dizzy.
Worst which is really terrifying is his cell mate came in with an infection on his arm and another issue;
He passed out and needed CPR; The guards said , let him die and did nothing except call out the fire dept medics;. They got there in time to start CPR and then he was taken to a real hospital!!
My bro,s letter were written of scraps of paper he tore out of books! He has to pay for every stamp and some guy gave him 3 envelopes, never borrow or loan in jail!!! I hope he paid the guy back with something like a candy bar or else....
My cousins sent my bro nice letter papers, envelopes and stamps but the jail mailed them all back to her, not allowed! He can only buy things at the jail store but he is running out of money, they do not even give toothpaste or soap!
We can however in the US pay for healthcare for illegals.
He said they will not even let him have shoe strings! Treated like Charles Manson .
The only good news is finally his lawyer believes him and said he will try his best to let the court know the deal with the crazy wife and the years of her bi polar BS.
Hope it is not too late. They do not care at all if you are handicapped or not in there, everyone is treated like an animal.
Saw a documentary on jails in Germany, Man I would even book a room there, not like the US ones.

It's very difficult to buy jewellery for people. It's like people buying me shower gel. Is it they think I should smell the way they like or do I just smell anyway?  There is a bit of a Donaldo Trump kitsch about heavy looking gold. It's just bling for visualisation. Even if I was super rich, I'd be slumming it in shorts and T-shirts. I always think the way to see if people have money is to look at their watch. I've said that before here. If they are wearing an expensive watch, it doesn't matter what else they are wearing, you know they got money.

It's not nice to hear this about your bro. His lawyer should fight his corner anyway. He doesn't have to believe him, he just needs to do his job properly and support his client.Â
If his wife has made up a load of lies about him, is she going to do time for that? Or pay him compensation for his incarcerations under false accusations? Loss of earnings, hurt feelings, psychological damage, counselling all from an abuse. Sounds like a potential lawsuit.  He needs the money more than her. He needs to build a new life elsewhere and she needs to pay for her mistakes.
I'm not really in favour of distinguishing between illegal immigrants and anyone else present within the borders of a country, they are all under the protection of (in the US case), the Constitution. Apparently ICE and FBI will tell foreigners they are not subject to constitutional protections. That's absolutely false. On the other hand, the Feds can lie to suspects quite legitimately to elicit information.  Makes you wonder what the hell is going on there. Cruel and unusual punishment and basic human rights. Yup, even terrorists and murderers, never mind how heinous a crime.  There's no death penalty in the EU and many other countries. I can see the arguments for and against. I come down on no death penalty because there have been so many miscarriages of justice. There's no going back if the alleged perp is cold and in the ground.Â
Dutch prisons have a reputation of being rather comfy. They even have conjugal visits with partners. I don't want to find out but if one was pinched, then somewhere like Sweden or Norway could be quite nice.  I believe Norway has a maximum sentence of 20 years for any crime, even mass murder. That's a bit hard to swallow.
From what my cousins told me the other day, all my bro did was snap a towel towards his wife when he went to collect some of his things!
I am sure people of real DV would be outraged to hear that.
Like she could not get away from a one legged man??
All we can do is hope justice happens but no one is holding their breath either. So unfair.
She is defo bi polar.
My cousin is trying to contact his son to be a witness if they will allow it.
He was there.
IDK, people seem to not communicate with each other very well;
Here I am overseas and everyone is using me as a middleman.
Without a VPN I can not even access many US sites to get detailed into.
I doubt my bro wants to hassle trying to sue his wife, he really wants to leave the state and get far away from her;Wasted enough years on that witch.
Holloween tonight,guess she will party with her fellow coven of ex teachers.
Our neighbor is partying already, has all her childish holiday things outside her door and another man over.
IDK how old she is, mid 60s at least. Every so often we hear men at her home in the early morning hours when we have breakfast;
Not our business but please do not give me indigestion!
At one time it was the women on the other side of us. Her husband was working in the UK when at breakfast a commotion was going on the other side of our breakfast table.
About a week later when her husband returned all heck broke out;
Screaming yelling banging, then she was out for good.
Can only guess what was going on while he was working.
Maybe it is a HU thing?
Even my crazy, unattractive SIL had a BF who had mental issues years ago.
She is pushing 81 now so this was a good 25 years ago or more;
The guy lived behind her with his parents.
She broke it off and the entire neighborhood had to evacuate!Seriously, he threatened to blow up the gas lines!!! Fire dept, police and ambulance services were called out to haul him off to the loony bin!
Now the SIL rents her house out and lives in her daughters rental home.

I do understand he wants to get away but in the heat of the moment people tend to leave their rights and property behind.  His lawyer should at least try and ask for a stake so he can start again somewhere else from a position of strength. Â
If someone in the UK makes false accusations and people end up on remand on spurious charges, the accuser could be charged with wasting police time and the victim could ask for compensation etc.  There must be a similar mechanism in the US/CA.
That geo-location thing is really annoying. It's like I get served HU language adverts and for dipsh*t reasons I get pages up in Hungarian, regardless of the fact that I've never asked for those before. It's a useless feature in my mind except for maps. And in any case, web sites should mind their own business.

We're not doing anything special for Halloween. We'll just do the cemeteries with the BIL, starting this afternoon.  Our 20-year old has volunteered to cook Saturday which is good.  Looking forward to that. I believe it will be Chile Con Carne and Mulligatawny Soup. Â
Last night I did a traditional British dish known as Bangers and Mash. That's Sausages and Mashed Potato. I did a gravy with it and sprinkled on some chives. Looked really good but was about average taste wise. It's very difficult to get good sausages here.  I was prompted by my daughter in Canada who was eating it the other day. She sent me a picture of it. We do that. If we make something we send each other pictures of it.
Sounds like your neighbour was keen on unofficial sausages on the side while hubby was away.
Strife seems to be everywhere. One of my relatives said last night his wife had gone off the rails. But she's known for it. He really needs to leave and go somewhere else before they kill each other. She works in some nonsense job like reiki stone thing but can live from it. He lives off his parents money, he's mid-50s, never had a proper job and a bit of a fantasist.  Very different to the rest of us. I have a profession and so do nearly all my relatives but that particular one - and one other - do not have professions.  They don't seem to have any qualifications for a job at all.  It might be mental illness of one form or another.
Never tell a Hungarian their sausages are not good.
I know though, the spices are different in different places.
We bought Mexican chorizo and although it goes well with Mexican sides, not so much when trying to use it in a Hungarian dish.
Still want to visit the grave of Zsa Zsa and Gul Baba.
I am interested in how they bury people in Turkey.
Sort of interesting how they display the Sultans inside their little tent like structures.
Do they have a crew for up kept on dusting and keeping the display of Turbans clean and fresh?
How are they made to last so long?
I really would like to know.
Everyone should learn some sort of trade. Never know when it may come in handy.
Tried to get our then 15 year old son into auto repair school; He goofed around so much they asked us to take him out. He was really too young for the course.
Wanted him to try A/C and Heating repair, he was not interested.
Did learn card dealing and all the casino games but that only works in a few places and now they are replacing life dealers with AI.
My husband sometimes laughes at me when he recalls what I said when our boy was an infant. I asked so a doctor or lawyer? Now I realize we are lucky he does not need either of them let alone be one!
Have,fun, at the graveyard today, bring a shovel just to freak people out!

Mrs F bought the sausages in Tesco. They had paprika in them (does it make them Chorizo?) and definitely NOT the style we are used to. British sausages are so much nicer - more meat and less fat. We also had some "Spanish" sausages yesterday but why they were Spanish, I've no idea. I've decided to have SLT (Sausage, Lettuce and Tomato) sandwiches for lunch. Different from the BLT I had the other days. Mrs F bakes the bacon in the oven and that's really nice. I never thought of doing bacon in the oven. Â

I didn't know where Zsa Zsa (Gabor?) is located so I looked it up and yes, she's here in HU. Click here to see her grave. Â
Gul Baba - isn't he located near those baths? Maybe I dreamt that. He's here too - click here.
I am not up on the Sultans' death rituals. I think about Lenin in Moscow. I was actually in that square but the mausoleum was closed on that day. It was quite small. I don't feel I really missed anything not seeing him. There was a Turkish memorial in Northern Syria which I never got to despite being all around the area there. It's a bit of a strange one. It's Turkish territory within Syria. I think during the war, they moved the person's body back to Turkey. Don't remember the name.

Haha, yes I like the shovel idea. And maybe some bags with medical stuff and wooden crosses/stakes.
I agree, everyone should have a profession.  Even being an undertaker. No shortage of customers for that.
Car repairs and AC/heating repair skills would be good skills. Plenty of money in that and high demand. I don't know what I would do if I wasn't doing what I do. I quite like fiddling with stuff. I always fancied being an artist, possibly a sculptor using metalwork. Lack of talent might be an impediment. Â
Thanks for the graveyard links.
I want to see them, my husband is not so much into visiting graves. Has not even visited his mother for many years.
Zsa Zsa and her sisters were very pretty.
I knew a girl in HS who was a good year or two older then me.
She was born in Budapest but they left in 1956 when she was tiny.
She was one of the very pretty girls in our school out of IDK, 1,000 girls.
Her mother and father spoiled her to death, she had the best clothing, best style and she was allowed to bleach her hair to a white blonde shade.
She had a older BF who was a drummer in a collage band, he was super handsome, cute couple.
I went to her home and her mother who spoke very broken English was always trying to get me to eat something; My friend, Eva would yell at her mom to leave her friends alone.
She would walk her white rabbit around town on a lead.
Always wonder where she is today.Her face was a slimmer version of Zsa Zsa, a 70s version of style.
I happened to see a suggested video on U tube.
Made me think of the bangers and mash idea.
Kay,s Cooking, she made a ,Sausage Lasagna, minus anything to do with Italy or lasagna.
Funniest cooking show ever, a middle aged mom from the UK who is always wearing her Iron Maiden T shirt and sharing cooking tips.
Gordon Ramsey,s nightmare!
Sat through one of her videos where she made a pasta dish, no boiling of the pasta needed, the part that was funny was she made her adult son do the taste test.
I did not know pasta was suppose to make a crunching sound.
If ever in the mood for a cheap laugh, check out Kay,s Cooking on U Tube. Promise you will chuckle or get indigestion.

For a moment, I thought you were friends with Zsa Zsa and her sister Eva. That seemed unlikely given their ages - they were pretty old during your HS years I guess.Â
I think Eva Gabor was a more professional actor than Zsa Zsa who I always thought she was a lightweight. I mentioned to Mrs Fluffy we should go and have a look at Zsa Zsa's grave but after this weekend, we're thinking we're spending far too much time in cemeteries and Mrs Fluffy doesn't really care enough. The Gabor sisters were not in my time for the movies but I like old movies so it would be a kind of minor pilgrimage. I suppose I could go on my own as it's not so far.  We also had a discussion about visiting the grave of the Omega keyboard man who apparently has a memorial like a piano.  Over the UK, cemetery tourism is not that unusual. There are many famous people to visit in London, including Karl Marx.
As an anecdote, I was in school and the actress Kate Nelligan came to my school as a fake student wearing our school uniform. Pretty sure it was her. She joined in with our science classes if I remember correctly. I had no idea who she was. I was about 12 years old. She's about 10 years older than me, so she would have been around 22. I think she stayed a week but seemed to come and go at different times. I think she must have been there researching a role where she would play a school student. I remember thinking something was off about her as she seemed aloof and distant and not like a kid.  As far as I know she didn't get the part as I've looked up her performances and seen nothing I recognise as being likely to be right for that level of research.  I have seen her in other shows and yup, she seems a bit snooty. I only realised it was her after I saw her on the TV or some movie.Â
I happened to see a suggested video on U tube.Made me think of the bangers and mash idea.Kay,s Cooking, she made a ,Sausage Lasagna, minus anything to do with Italy or lasagna.Funniest cooking show ever, a middle aged mom from the UK who is always wearing her Iron Maiden T shirt and sharing cooking tips.Gordon Ramsey,s nightmare!Sat through one of her videos where she made a pasta dish, no boiling of the pasta needed, the part that was funny was she made her adult son do the taste test.I did not know pasta was suppose to make a crunching sound.If ever in the mood for a cheap laugh, check out Kay,s Cooking on U Tube. Promise you will chuckle or get indigestion. - @Marilyn Tassy
I didn't know if Bangers and Mash would be known in US circles. I don't know about Kay's Cooking but I will look.  There's TV show in the UK called Bangers (old cars) and Cash. It's about buying and selling old cars unsurprisingly. I guess Bangers has multiple meanings on both sides of the Atlantic.
I was watching a guy called Colin Furze who was building underground tunnels and stuff under his small house in the UK. It was a substantial bit of building work. I was surprised he got permission to do it. I'd have thought his neighbours would have been really annoyed but I reckon it's a set up and he owns both houses so no-one to complain. I am really surprised that guy as like 13M followers. That's a substantial earner. I asked someone who knows about these things and he reckons it's $30K an episode that YT and others pay him. And he's putting out an episode a month approximately across two channels.   Apparently he got into building underground structures because of a TV show where someone wanted to build a bunker to film a comedy show about a nuclear apocalypse.  What a weird start of a business.
He could call his U tube channel, Mole Man.
My husband thinks I should have a U tube channel.He thinks I am funny enough and interesting. As my husband he better think so, doubt the public would be very much interested in my Hungarian adventures.
Others have already gotten on the band wagon, many expats have U tube channels about Hungary.
Maybe 10 years ago it would of been interesting but these days, who wants to see a old women going shopping and bitching about it.
It would be odd thought to have strangers come up to you and say they saw your channel.
There is a guy in his 50s called, The German in Venice.
He is a honest straight talking guy who is humble and rides an E bike or scooter around Venice Beach, Ca.
He used to have a small shop on the boardwalk before covid, now just makes videos about people on the beach, Hollywood etc.
He sometimes flies to Germany to help his sick mother,sort of heartwarming to see how positive he is all the time. Silly but sweet.
It takes allot of years to make money on U tube unless you are one of the only fans channels. Not going down that rabbit hole!!
In the US I never heard of mash and bangers but we ate sausage and mashed potatoes.
What,s in a name .
Went on a long bus ride Sat; Missed the stop and realized that line only went in one direction, one big loop.
Had a hour long ride in a circle!
Also forgot about the Dead day being a holiday.
Went back yesterday;
A outdoor bootsale/ swapmeet .Free entry.
Bunch of junk really, not really any produce, just people clearing out their junk.
If you are looking for rusty old car parts,old DVDs etc; that is the place to go.
Felt sort of sorry for people trying to make a buck by wasting such a nice day sitting waiting to make a few bucks.
We bought nothing.
Think my bro sees the judge today, if they do not move it again.
Speaking of U tube,
I saw a list of the top 5 smartest dogs.
Doberman IQ of 91
Golden Retriever 92
German Shepard 93
Poodle 94
Boarder Collie 95
Allot of humans are around the 80 zone!
Saw a video where a guy was asking simple questions for Gen Z.
How many weeks in a year, 24.
How much is 47 plus 53. 910 was the answer!
What made me laugh was who was the first US president, George Floyd!!
Have to laugh or we will cry, how bad are the schools these days?
Oh gawd, I hate Christmas. I'd rather hibernate and wait for it all to be over. It looks like we are going back to the UK for a few days over Christmas. I mean a flying visit.
Mon 22/12 Vienna to Cardiff 6.50 am arrived 9.50am
Stay with Dad in Llandeilo.
Christmas Day- you all come to Cardiff. Sam will be here ( also arriving 22/12) Huw and Mac with us till early afternoon- then they go to their mum. Vicky ( Huw’s partner is a midwife and is working) I do finger food and then cook Christmas dinner in the evening. We will be 6- you and Evie, Daddy, Sam and us.
Flight back 17.15 on Boxing Day from Cardiff. Walk in the morning and brunch and then I’ll take you to the airport in the afternoon.
My sister has it all planned for me.

I am worn out just looking at the activities in store for you!
Seeing fam is nice but at times it is too much.
Over the last decade or so we have stopped doing holidays, Xmas, Easter, Halloween, all of them except slightly indulging in BDs. Nothing to talk about really.
My hubby just had his 78th and mine is just 10 days before crazy X mas.
I make a bigger deal about my BD then I actually feel about it; Perhaps the one out of two days a year my hubby opens his wallet!
Can not blame a girl for trying! I keep it simple, no more then $100; Usually half that amount.
I have too many things and do not even have a drop of space left for storage.
Just make my BDs a day of reflection mostly.
I am a bit envious of you UK peeps, no big deal to fly a few hours to see loved ones;
In my case it is a total endurance challenge! Those long hauls with multi stops are killers!
I do hope you enjoy your visit, it is a special time to reconnect with people.
If my sis was not 78 and had responsibilities at home, I would not mind buying her a ticket to visit me.
Easier then me going to boring old USA.
When my eldest sister was married to her younger Karate King husband I was invited for her ,Hmm, was it her 40th BD?
He had it all planed out.
I was her so called surprise gift, arrived on Friday, Party Saturday and fly out on Sunday;
F that and him too!
I was not about to be a silly party favor.

Nowhere is more than about 4h away by plane in Europe (meaning mainly EU).   The rise of the cheap airlines has been transformational. But for some expat communities, it could go wrong quickly.
What I mean by that, an airline like Ryanair or Wizzair coming in somewhere means a load of expats or retirees rush to that area and buy houses.  But some airlines just pull out after a few years, leaving those areas adrift or passengers facing higher prices due to lack of competition or having to drive long distances to a serviceable airport. Â
I am facing the same issue. I was going to Liverpool Airport on Wizzair from here as they had a direct flight from Budapest with good baggage, reasonable departure and arrival times. But for inexplicable reasons, that flight has been stopped. Wizzair are flying to places I'm not currently interested in.
Now the only way to get to Liverpool is on Ryanair. I always avoided them like they had the plague.  If they change their routing, maybe I end up just not going there at all.  There are more inconvenient options like Manchester which is more difficult for me.  It's not impossible, it's just really time wasting. There's a possibility of driving to Vienna and going out from there on Easyjet but that's a really desperate option cum Hail Mary.
Looks like travel to the US is a nightmare right now. - @Marilyn Tassy
For foreigners, yes, it's to be absolutely avoided. I read visits to the US by Canadians are down 70%. Obviously it'll never shrink to zero as people have work and family connections.
I told my now Canadian based daughter not to go anywhere near the USA and they are not that far away from the closest border - 120km to Niagara Falls Ontario. Easily driveable. They are on temporary working visas to Canada and it's just too risky getting messed up on the border and not being able to get back. She said entering Canada, they were really nice to them as they were fully documented. But they should be really careful trying to get back in getting past CBP on the US side etc. They are all safe right now so just don't do it! One never knows which kind of person is behind the counter. My encounters with CBP have varied between jolly and fun and like death warmed up.Â
One of my kids is going to Mexico on holiday next year. I've told her to make sure they have US ESTAs in case their plane is diverted to US territory and they have to stay over. Same for Canada. Otherwise they'll be kept in some segregated area of an airport for unknown amounts of time. I also told her to check there is no undocumented stop for refuelling in US territory because the buggers will make them get off and go through US immigration even if they are only there on a technical stop intended or otherwise. This happens to quite a few flights - some airlines do not tell passengers these stops will happen. Definitely they should make the flights direct to destination with no hidden US stops. It's a nightmare for transit passengers.Â
One get asked why you're visiting the US and the answer is usually, we're not, we're in transit to another country. I've had it myself multiple times. I just told them I was going to the check in for the next flight. It also meant I had to collect my bags and drag them to the other check in desk. Absolutely bonkers system.
Crossing the US Canadian boarder can be hard for US citizens too.
Over 30 years ago it was an issue too.
My US sister and her HU BF who was a resident in Canada were seperated at the boarder.
He was not allowed back into the US and she was not allowed back into Canada.
Lots of tears but they broke up at the boarder.
My cousin is a member of a native American nation;
She, her bothers, my aunt and uncle were adopted into a NE tribe.
We have native blood but for my cousins it comes from both sides.
So she and her teen age son were on a tribal bus going back to the US from Canada.
The boarder agents from both sides stopped the bus, pulled everyone off and searched them.
My cousin went nuts when they touched her son who was a minor, they tore the bus up, looking at drums, bags body searches, of course they found nada but they were racist jerks and just wanted to hassle everyone.
Right now with those lame shut downs the TSA agents are not getting paid and many are not showing up for work; Long TSA lines at many US airports and many flight delays.
They just do not want people to travel so going to make it more difficult.
IDK, have to flex their muscle and make everyone life harder.

You'd think they'd have huge respect for native tribal members asserting their rights. I mean, there are some native communities split by the border and the interference of what are now artificial borders drawn up by national governments. I know they signed treaties, possibly under duress, but still, who was there first?Â
I've very little sympathy for Fed workers caught up in the shutdown. At least half those people will have voted for Donny and the GOP. So they are reaping what they sow. The Elephants can sort it out with the Donkeys. I know TSA and any security is supposed to keep ALL people safe and that's good but I'm totally selfish on this one. I'm not flying to the USA and have no intention of going anywhere near there if I can help it.
I might go out the the Pacific region again and I have two choices - go via Canada that way around the world, probably via Vancouver or go the other way via say, China or Singapore or Australia or NZ. If I went via Canada, I can transit much easier. My choices onward that way are limited as I'd have to go via Hawaii probably and while I'd like to visit, I don't want any hassle on US territory.  Avoiding the USA is probably my highest priority on routing.Â
The longer I have lived outside the US the scarier the place seems to me.
From prices to politics.
I have little in common these days with the people over there.
I am OK with never going there again but one day I must to finish up some loose ties.
My husband always says never say never, if it gets strange here then he wants to leave.
Hmm, where is private Island?
Only the wealthy can have their own Islands.
Only Island I would find myself would be Devils Island!
Speaking of prisons, my bro is suppose to have a court date today and another on the 13th.
I pray he gets bail!
He needs to file for divorce ASAP before he dies;
As it stands the witch could get his pension if he dies first!
I would not put it past her to make sure she collects.
Paid bills yesterday, health coverage was included. I can not even think about paying for health care in the US. It is not any better then here except they have nicer things.
My bro sent a letter out, he has just 2 more stamps left.
He has lost 20 lbs this past lockup.
Food sounds terrible, lots of pasta, soy meat, under cooked foods.
Hope he gets out and can have a nice dinner.
We bought trout yesterday, was really nice. We do not usually eat fish that often, I keep forgetting where they sell it inside of Tesco and never look for it.
Used to have fish at least once a week years ago.
Fave was Halibut, never see that any longer and probably could not afford it if we did.
Saw footage of the UPS plane that came down in the states.
Poor people, off to Hawaii and never made it.
No, the gov does not care about native Americans.
I worked in New Mexico in a beauty salon . Our manager was full blooded Navajo and one hairdresser was.
Both had a wicked funny sense of humor; Very off the wall but to the point. Both were great ladies to work with.
The manager knew that little children would get under my skin as clients, not so much the kid but the parents.
Whenever she was not busy with a client and a kid came in with its fussy mother she would grab it to save me. She did not want me to quit, which I have done here and there in the past when I disliked a job.
Quit a great paying casino job because I wanted to switch shifts to days with someone who wanted to work nights; Boss said we both had to work there a min of 6 months before we could do that, not sure why he was such a hard ass about it but I quit because sleep was more important then money.
The money was nice though easy work too, just boring as anything.Hard to work nights when you are falling asleep on your feet.
Some people love it but some people are meant for the daylight.
I also had native clients come in for a trim and ask for their hair back in a bag. They did not want to leave it behind for any witchcraft to be done with it. Strange never would of thought of that before.

He definitely needs that filed right away. As long as it's filed, the pension should be protected. I know in my country, if you get divorced and remarry someone else, all wills are immediately invalidated. Pensions are lost if the person has no partner.
We also think about leaving but where to go? Mrs F is saying continuously we should go if OV is back in. Even our daughter is saying she cannot write her university thesis on some subjects because they are banned, particularly anything gender or LGBT based. That's hard to avoid in modern culture. But here, any thesis ends up in the public domain and if the subject matter is not agreeable to OV/Fidesz, that's that, no degree issued and the Uni will be abused or prosecuted. Unbelievable.

Trout is often available in Aldi but maybe I'm thinking about seasonal stuff. Aldi magazine is majorly Christmas influenced right now. We had salmon the other day.  I expect they have fish in HU prisons at Christmas time. I wonder if they do seasonal stuff in CA prisons on festive days. No idea. Halibut is nice fish. It can be affordable but I'm from the UK and we're surrounded by sea with a lot of fish in it.
Saw footage of the UPS plane that came down in the states.Poor people, off to Hawaii and never made it.
Yes, saw that. It was on fire before it ever got off the ground. I looked at the Flight Radar data and it reached about 200 ft and then crashed into buildings at the end of the runway. It was going at sufficient speed to get airborne for just seconds. Surprising so few people perished. It could have been far worse if it had gone down in a residential area.

Witchcraft from cut hair. Not heard that one before. But it's equally valid believing in that hocus pocus when others are sitting in a church looking at a table with a cross on it. Or whatever one believes in come to think of it. Not a fan of traditional religions and certainly not a fan of witchcraft superstitions.
I must over romanticise things because I've got this idea the natives are all closer to nature and full of philosophies.  I think it could be because I'm thinking of their stories and I'm attracted to mythologies.
I am sure most of them are worried about their car payments, cost of living, their jobs and family and not thinking about Mother Earth each day.Â
I could end up in trouble for cultural appropriation but actually I'm thinking quite possibly that's a sign of respect to even recognise their art.  I previously tried to buy a large but genuine North American native patterned blanket made of wool.  Genuine ones are expensive! I didn't want to get a Chinese knock off made by machine.
What a bloody nightmare trying to do a Passport renewal online. Grrrrrrrr
What a bloody nightmare trying to do a Passport renewal online. Grrrrrrrr - @SimCityAT
I did mine OK but my son's, jeez, that was a horror show.
In 1994 my 18 year old son wanted a new passport.
We followed all the rules, went in person to the local post office in New Mexico and submitted his original birth certificate, the forms, photos all of it.
Got a slip telling him to come pick it up a bit later.His birth certificate had been stolen and his new passport was only good for 6 months!
I had to complained, refused to settle for what happened but he never recovered his birth certificate. Had to get him a copy as a replacement document.
I wonder who sold his info, not allot of 6 foot 3 green eyed red heads walking around New Mexico but you never know.
Fraud, the gov was in control from the moment we personally handed his paperwork into the post office until we picked it up.
My brothers court date has been pushed again!! Now the 19th.
My cousin called his public defender of course he has not called her back.
Really upsetting to see how the system runs, not very well at all.
Saw a news report that Trump wants to make it harder for people to claim disability.
He wants to retrain handicapped people to work!
Pretty soon he will be asking 80 year old granny,s to find work in a coal mine!

It's the same kind of nonsense in the UK except they lie to you and send you e-mails which are untrue. When I spoke to the Passport Office on the phone, they denied they sent the e-mails BUT asked for the e-mails to be sent to them which I did.  Never apologised. Never explained.
I don't know why my son was singled out for their BS as it was not like his first passport and it was not like I don't have a passport and everything was and is totally consistent. I think it was because he was a minor then and they expected or "hoped" they'd identified a bad person (me) trying to get a legit passport for some illegal immigrant. It was bonkers stuff. Took about 4 months.  Really annoying.
Of course I was asserting his Britishness and his UK rights on his behalf. He has his Hungarian passport anyway so not a problem for travel. I really objected to having to send my original documents to them which they already have copies of in their possession anyway. They can check the online records themselves. It cost me a load of money to send those documents in securely and internationally - no refund for that BS.  I was incredulous they wanted the docs again. They had no explanation other than every application does not refer to any previous application. Words fail me at the inefficiency. Anyway, our daughter got her UK passport really quickly but at that time, she was already an adult. Couple of years and our son will be in the same position.
One of my adult kids was born in The Netherlands. They have a large ledger with all the births in it. It's now all digitised. So her birth certificate is just "an extract from the register".  I've been asked to get the birth certificate several times but there isn't one that looks like a UK certificate. There's only the extract. The UK government have accepted that for years but it causes some odd looks.  I have no idea how my Australian brother (RIP) and sister coped with their paperwork as their birth documents are all Australian. They look very British as far as I remember. And my other brother has a birth certificate from a Pacific island.  And my niece has two UAE citizen kids, also British and Australian. They weren't allowed dual nationality until recently. They only had UAE passports. Jeez, what a muddle.  If my second daughter has kids, god knows what that would look like - British, Irish and Canadian. Oy vay, ay Caramba!
Why have they pushed the court date back for Lon? Is it just overload or is it for new evidence or reports? This is CA state and not federal so there should not be any relation to the shutdown (I suppose). I reckon his wife needs to undergo psychiatric tests and reports. Maybe his lawyer should ask for this if they will be claiming she's mentally deranged.  If it does prove she's lost the plot, she should pay out damages to Lon for false witness etc. My wishful thinking for him. Â
Marital disagreements really does end up like guerrilla warfare. Luckily it fades with time and with no contact, it'd be consigned to the trash can of history.
Thanks for the well wishes for my bro.
He is a nice guy but gets overly emotional.
His so called, wife, I call her his demon, knows how to push his buttons.
No idea why they keep moving his court date.
My cousin called and left a message with his lawyer;
I asked my sisters to bug him too.
A united front is best.
I had a vision of what will happen to his evil wife, she had a semi minor heart operation about 6 months ago for A Fib;
I see once the devil is done with her, she will pass out alone in one of her condos. So be it!!
No reason for me to look for a hit man, she is killing herself.

Sounds like she's got a bit of evil psychology going. I agree, united front, but tactical thinking must be part of the consideration.  Grim reaper is unlikely to take her.
My sister had the atrial fibrillation surgery. It's pretty routine but it doesn't sound like it. They kill part of the heart muscle that's firing incorrectly. Sounds dreadful doesn't it? I believe it's quite horrible when it's firing strangely and rather disturbing. But as you say, "semi-minor" as it's not likely to be that fatal as it's relatively correctable. That's as far as I know it from the sister.
Glad to hear the A fib surgery worked for your sister;
I have read that sometimes the surgery needs to be repeated, IDK.
My husband had that suggested many years ago; When he heard they stop your heart he said no way.
Stress is a huge factor with that issue, stay calm and let it go.
Easier said then done!
Read that about 500 people got food poisoning in the 13th district, many were young children who had to go to hospital.
That is scary. Got that once at the work buffet in Vegas, Asked to be taken off my game while I ran to the WC and got sick; I was told to rest in the break room for a few hours,head spinning around, was told to go home; Stopped at the doctors on my way home to see what they could do, not much eat crackers and drink fluids was their advice.
Think it was some tater salad.
My husband said he is surprised this has not happened before with so many of those food delivery services and guys on bikes, who knows how hot those food packs can get, how long food is out the wrong temp; and God forbid if anyone decides to tamper with it on purpose.
Glad to hear the A fib surgery worked for your sister;I have read that sometimes the surgery needs to be repeated, IDK.My husband had that suggested many years ago; When he heard they stop your heart he said no way.Stress is a huge factor with that issue, stay calm and let it go.Easier said then done!Read that about 500 people got food poisoning in the 13th district, many were young children who had to go to hospital.That is scary. Got that once at the work buffet in Vegas, Asked to be taken off my game while I ran to the WC and got sick; I was told to rest in the break room for a few hours,head spinning around, was told to go home; Stopped at the doctors on my way home to see what they could do, not much eat crackers and drink fluids was their advice.Think it was some tater salad.My husband said he is surprised this has not happened before with so many of those food delivery services and guys on bikes, who knows how hot those food packs can get, how long food is out the wrong temp; and God forbid if anyone decides to tamper with it on purpose. - @Marilyn Tassy
Yes, seemed to have worked OK. I think it did involve stopping the heart but I don't truly remember. I know my sis was out of breath and she was always a fitness nut. She's 74 soon so slowing down is inevitable.Â
At the moment I suspect she's got a touch of dementia. Behaving strangely or maybe it's just advancing years and she cannot be bothered by whatever is bothering her. Â
Chillin' has to be the way forward. I dunno about you but at 65, I'm massively less tolerant than I was at say 60. I don't know if it's "worse" with the impatience at 70. Maybe it's really bad at 74 or 75.
I've had food poisoning so many times. It's the preparers not washing their hands, wearing gloves or rubbing their faces or touching infected foodstuffs and transferring germs around. It's usually the same story - stomach pains, stuff out of either end, headache etc. Body resolves it fairly quickly and yup, drink lots of liquids and don't eat anything until it's subsided enough. Eating stuff is just feeding the stress.Â
I've had other forms of food poisoning and one was hellish. It was campylobacter that one - really horrible. Makes salmonella seem like a walk in the park.
My 78 year old sister had dysentary in India back in the early 70s in her 20s She was built slim back then and lost over 20 lbs.
She said India was a S@@t hole!
She hated the entire middle east too from Turkey to Iraq.
Used to say no big deal if the US just bombed them out of this world, nothing to miss!
IDK, something must of happened to her over there!
My husband says he does not trust those food delivery guys to not tamper with food.
It might be part of the agenda to hit western people.
Reminds me of that attack in Japan years ago on the subway system.
Just one nut case who is overly religious and all toast.
I will take my own cooking food poisoning if that is my fate.
Never going to order out, tip and get tossed.
I already do not trust people much with food, they cut corners all the time if possible.
I used to have a cast iron stomach but no longer.
Watched the news coverage with OV and Trump.

I can imagine whose nose was more brown. And that's got to be Orban. Like anyone really cares what Orban really thinks.

Seems like a set up, Trump was just about congratulating OV on winning next election.
IDK, IDK care really.
We are toast anyways.Everyone has been so passive for too long.
As long as they are OK, who cares about anyone else?
I am passive these days as well. What to fight for at nearly 71?
Did my thing and now it is time for someone else to stand up.
Beautiful out today, really need to get out and enjoy some sunshine.
Lately I really hate even going out and seeing people.
Nothing against anyone just do not want the bother.
I wonder what that is about? I used to jump at any reason to get out and do things.
Now days the world is just too much to bother with.
Had slightly planned on being in the US right now, looked into tickets but something held me back from booking a flight.
Now I know it was my, Spidey sense, Holy Ghost or 6th sense.
Airports in the US are a mess ATM.
I do not miss that place at all.

I'm not watching as much news as I did. I mainly listen to Classic Rock to reduce me getting wound up by political news. It makes me sick to hear stuff. I just heard Georgia (the country, not the state) has crossed to the dark side and is favouring Putin's methods now. They've stopped any pretense they are a democracy. So they aren't joining the EU anytime soon and I can see the barriers going back up,. I reckon that'll end up with fighting on the streets there if it gets any worse. And the government there will ask Russia to come in and be "peacekeepers". Putin must be opening the champagne this morning.
Not bothered about the US airports situation. Not going there. No plans to go there. No real personal connections. I am however more moved by the SNAP benefits problem and the reduction in medical benefits for the lower paid. Supposedly there's a deal in the offing as of this morning as some Democrats are supporting a compromise but I wonder if that'll really come to pass.  I don't care if they deal with it or not.Â
I was very however surprised about the US military not getting paid in Germany and actual soldiers will get no help. And if they turn up at German foodbanks, the locals will get annoyed about that. Understandable.  Civil workers in Germany, working on US bases, are being paid by the German government in the meantime.Â
Has to be a massive depopulation agenda behind all these systems going down at once.
Get rid of the poor, needy, sick, old, handicapped first, then go after the low wage workers and up the food chain.
Of course people, if you can call them people, like Bill Gates do not see themselves being effected , in their own billionaire bubble.
Who knows, he may be a clone by now.
My Vegas friend lives not too far from the airport.
She said flights are really flying really low, like at 8,000 feet, just a matter of time till something happens.
Her husband was a baggage handler at the airport and keeps his eye on things going on at the airport.
They are just circling around before landing. Crashing, Hope not!
Best move we have made so far is leaving that place!
Eldest sister called out the cops, nothing they can do to remove the unwanted house guest;.Need a court order since she has been there so long!
I asked if she wants me to at least write halfie and give her the low down about how we all feel about her BS. So far no a feed back;
Time to bring out the big guns, call elder abuse or as my husband says, the older one should just pack her bags, leave everything behind and escape out the back door!
Let the younger one deal with bills, rent all of it on her own till they toss her out to the street.
My husband watches too many videos of people just buying a one way ticket and never going back.
The latest is them fighting over a pair of donated shoes!!
Gosh, I have pairs of shoes in boxes, at least 40 to 50 pairs I never use, no need to fight over shoes!
It is getting to the point of them both having mental health issues!
I have been looking into how she can remove her guest.
I keep telling her to contact free legal aid and go from there.
I also told her to talk in private with her minister. He has to know who is a lawyer in their church and who is willing to help out.
My hubby has had it up to his neck with my siblings. I understand but still.
Nice weather, at least the sun is shinning!
Did a bit more digging, think, hopefully I may of found help for getting an eviction for the halfie.
Cops told her she needs a court order but they are not lawyers and just give out general advice if any.
I found a law firm that specializes in getting rid of unwanted family and friends who overstay their welcome.
Minn; Elder Justice Center.
Very sad to think she is not the only one being used like this.
It is clearly in my mind a case of financial exploitation or control.
She needs a restraining order or order of protection ASAP.
I had thought along those lines for awhile but of course the elder has to be serious and do it.
Let the gov. deal with the younger,s mental health issues.
The stress is not good for anyone on their own to deal with.
My Vegas friend was saying she is glad that Hungary will have cheaper gas prices from the Russian pipe line but she is against OV and Trump etc;
I tried to let her know well, Hungarians would freeze to death if they paid prices like in western Europe; They would have to raise wages allot to be equal.
Everyone only sees one side to things.

The gas prices are only down to Putin creating uncertainty. The new nuclear power station is supposed to be active so people could resort to electricity. They are going to get nuclear fuel from the USA. No reason to hold back on it. I don't really understand why production from solar or wind or hydro would go up in price in sync with the price of oil. Â
The Halfie needs to be told she has to go. There's no pussyfooting around it. It could do the Halfie's head in more than she's already suffering from mental health issues. But on the other hand, your Sis has to live her own life. It's looking like a matter of survival.
Looks to me like the shutdown will end but I find it odd that some Democrats didn't stick to their guns. I did read some rationalising by some person from the Democratic side and it was that the Republicans would have to have to own it. I cannot see how the Democrats don't own it too - at least the people voted with them.  It's very strange thinking.
Apparently Trump's already low polling will be seriously hit if the air traffic controllers are not working when it comes to Thanksgiving or even Christmas. I read some international flights will be affected if it isn't settled. Not bothered myself.
That man is losing it again......

Polls show him utterly negative.  He's pushing the controllers because he doesn't want to be held responsible for holiday disruption. As usual, it's about him. He probably doesn't have the power to dock people's pay as there will be numerous regulations and laws on it. And if he tried it on, his administration would be sued. It's an incredibly litigious society.Â
The system is screwed up. Not passing a budget is a vote of no confidence in the government. In many parliamentary systems that would mean holding an election.
A $10,000 bonus would be nice. Some people are kicking themselves now for calling in sick.
IDK, no one wants to work and not get paid but it was pretty clear they would get back pay.
Speaking of a bonus, not sure who or if anyone will get that $2,000 Trump promised all Americans.
I would not reject it!
I have a feeling it is only going to be a $2,000 tax right off for working people... Bummer!
Just like how our neighbor was telling my husband awhile back to get online and sign up for the 30,000 forint for seniors here in Hungary.
First off, my husband and I do need it, nice though, second we do not want to ask for anything that may or may not put my immigration status at risk by looking needy.
Also comes to find out, it is only for retired Hungarian workers who have a HU retirement card.
Things look good at first but in the end they are not what they seem.
Nothing for nothing;
Went to Tesco yesterday, just in and out ASAP, super busy in the Arena Mall;
Black Friday sales, bunch of zombies shopping for the holidays.
So glad I stopped with holidays.
Of course I do enjoy buying myself something for my BD which is too close to Xmas for my liking.
Everything is stripped before I get to a store.
Should not feel bad, my cousin is 3 days before Xmas and I knew a person born on the 25th.
My mother used to give me a BD gift and always every year say, it would of been a better gift but Xmas is coming. Wonder what excuse those people got.
Even BD gifts are really not needed but nice.
My husband just got himself a couple nice slices of cake for his last one.
I do hope that senior legal help center can find a solution for my sisters.They younger one has no respect and is gas lighting the older one. Telling her she is getting dementia, getting old and crazy etc.
Well the older one was doing just fine with herself before her house guest arrived. She has asked her to leave more then once, then the tears start up and the guilt trip.
Would not work on me, I know her since she was born.
