I cannot see the Germans liking US soldiers queueing with them at a local foodbank.

A $10,000 bonus would be nice. Some people are kicking themselves now for calling in sick.
IDK, no one wants to work and not get paid but it was pretty clear they would get back pay.
Speaking of a bonus, not sure who or if anyone will get that $2,000 Trump promised all Americans.
I would not reject it!
I have a feeling it is only going to be a $2,000 tax right off for working people... Bummer!
Just like how our neighbor was telling my husband awhile back to get online and sign up for the 30,000 forint for seniors here in Hungary.
First off, my husband and I do need it, nice though, second we do not want to ask for anything that may or may not put my immigration status at risk by looking needy.
Also comes to find out, it is only for retired Hungarian workers who have a HU retirement card.
Things look good at first but in the end they are not what they seem.
Nothing for nothing;
Went to Tesco yesterday, just in and out ASAP, super busy in the Arena Mall;
Black Friday sales, bunch of zombies shopping for the holidays.
So glad I stopped with holidays.
Of course I do enjoy buying myself something for my BD which is too close to Xmas for my liking.
Everything is stripped before I get to a store.
Should not feel bad, my cousin is 3 days before Xmas and I knew a person born on the 25th.
My mother used to give me a BD gift and always every year say, it would of been a better gift but Xmas is coming. Wonder what excuse those people got.
Even BD gifts are really not needed but nice.
My husband just got himself a couple nice slices of cake for his last one.
I do hope that senior legal help center can find a solution for my sisters.They younger one has no respect and is gas lighting the older one. Telling her she is getting dementia, getting old and crazy etc.
Well the older one was doing just fine with herself before her house guest arrived. She has asked her to leave more then once, then the tears start up and the guilt trip.
Would not work on me, I know her since she was born. - @Marilyn Tassy

Maybe you'll get the Trump bonus and the local HU bonus too.  Would you two get 2 x $2K bonuses?

I'll never get a HU retirement card.  Not Hungarian.  I find that quite discriminatory.  But then again, why should I get it?

While I do not like Trump and I'm not an American, clearly sharing out government money is like a dividend on the business of the country.  I wouldn't reject it either.  But it'll probably increase national debt and not everyone will really need it.  Does Musk or Ellison need it?  Of course not.

It'd never happen to people in the UK.  The government there is always bleating they don't have any money and they cannot afford this and that.   I find it quite difficult to believe.  UK is about the 6th largest economy or thereabouts.  It should be affordable.

On the sisters situation, I think throwing around the dementia label is too easy.    As far as I understand it, people with dementia are not aware they have dementia.  I wonder about myself but I don't think I have dementia but I am beginning to wonder if I've got some loss somewhere in the system.  My memory is going.  But it could be just normal aging.    Probably halfie's mental health behaviour is challenging for older sis.  She doesn't need it at her age.

Very weird.

I thought they could eat on base for free?

From my info the shut down is over with or will be over with soon.

Scary to think no one has any savings for a rainy day.

On duty, perhaps, but families still have to eat, and that comes out of their pay. They have not been paid for 43 days now.

It is sad, I remember back in the 1970s when my step father was on strike at his union job at Lockheed.

We had to, tighten our belts.

Instead of going off to work, he was holding signs and marching with his union buddies.

Sad the think about the military standing in bread lines; Most must have families to feed and can not all eat on base.

My step father was stationed for 2 years in Germany and in the 1960s  he had extra money to even travel around Europe on his days off.

They do get free food if they are single but I'd have thought the cafeterias on base should start catering to their families as well.  They've got all the equipment and people, they just need to stores which they could get from pooling resources.

Of course, US people get paid every 2 weeks.  But they usually living just a few paychecks from bankruptcy.  It's unbelievable such a system exists where they are not paid continuously for their service.

Yes, I find it embarrassing that the US did not pay their service people.

Makes the US look like a clown show,hmm, guess it is one at that!

Not every German wants the US stationed in their country and to put service people in harms way is disgusting.

Makes the US really look 3rd world.

Hopefully their checks are going in the mail.

Well, after giving up on taking the photo myself, I went to a shop and they did a digital photo for €20 and got 4 hard copy photos.

It was quite simple to process the application. The same day, Monday 10th Nov, we had a walk down the road to the post office at 5pm and sent my old passport off.

Had an Email last night at 9.34pm to say that they had received it. I am guessing that the mail would not have been collected from the post office until the next day, the 11th. So that is 2 days. Pretty good going.

With any luck, I will have my new passport next week.

Marilyn Tassy

Waiting on any official documents is stressful.

Hope the new passport arrives very soon.

My Vegas friend told me her daughter is addicted to an herb.

Never heard of this legal natural herb before, called Kratom.

Sounds like a weak version of cocaine.

From SE Asia.

I wonder how many of these legal herbal treatments are leading to addiction. Can be harmful if you over do it, just like with anything, overdoing food, drugs, drink can be harmful. Too much attention given to children can ruin them as well. Have to find balance with everything.

I can see imitators being on the market in 10 minutes at 10% of the price.

I think anyone who makes something similar will get zapped by Apple.  People have had things like that for years.

As for the iPhone, why bother with it at all?  They cost a ton of money and Android phones from Samsung or similar do pretty much the same thing for a 1/3 of the cost.

I find it interesting that the last thing I actually do with a smartphone is call or text anyone.  I usually use instant messaging.  I looked at my phone and I made 4 actual calls in the last month.  Incoming calls are usually via WhatsApp.

  My God,a sucker is born every day!!

ATM I am looking at a woven beige little bag with a zipper on it that I picked up years ago at the Goodwill store.

Thought it would be OK for a quick jaunt to the store in summer as it went with light colored clothing.

Think I spent a whole $1.00 on it. I should open a resale shop!! I swear it is more useful then this sock thing is.

Well, I admit I had to look up the meaning of the word, tertiary.

I do not believe it is a commonly used word in the states.

Yes, there is a guy on U tube who goes to different cities and does st; interviews with younger people; Questions like who was the first US president. One guy answered, George Floyd with a straight face.

What is 3x3x3?

What is 47 +53, the answer given was 910!

Help, if I live to be 90 these people will be taking care of me!!

Years ago in the US my friends who were mostly all straight A students in school thought my husband had gone to uni.

Went to trade school in Hungary for nearly 4 years as a machinist and was just your everyday average Hungarian student but educated in commie days where there was no messing around, no pick letter A,B,or C on a test; All tests were verbal.

I was in HS just able to hold a C+ average but I only went to my first class of the day for years. I skipped school by writing myself a note. Tell me who was dumb, me or the school staff?

School is a joke unless a person is given motivation  to learn.

We allowed our son in the 10th grade to take a full day exam to get his HS papers early.

He quit school after the test which he passed.

He was taking naps all day in class because he was so bored to death.

If I could have a redo, I would have home schooled him with a few other parents. Everyone could of shared different styles  of teaching and skills.

At least when I went to HS they taught us how to balance a check book, cook, sew basic things , drive a car and how to have some manners.

These days 4 years in uni is equal to a normal HS education if that.

My BFF Lisa skipped 2 levels in school but never wanted to go to uni. She opened her own home cleaning business. I started my own at age 18 and found it too dull for me; I gave her a few of my clients and she went on from there.

Did very well, had the same clients for decades. Sometimes I think I should of stuck with housecleaning. Hire others to do the work with time .

I had to check if the word ,tertiary, was used in the US or not.

Not very common, used mostly in the military to describe further military training.

We use the term , Higher Education or Continuing Education more often;

Thanks though, word of the day, Tertiary!

Marilyn Tassy

I was trying to think about what we actually did with our time when we ditched school.

Always checked into the first class so the office would not count us as absent for the day.

Took well over 6 months for them to catch on and report to my mom.

I know we often went to collage for the day, sat in classes that our older friends attended.

Met most of our friends as 10th graders and they all were in the 12th grade.

It was sad when they all left and we still had 2 more years to go.

Some friends had single family homes and we would hang at their house all day long while their mom was at work.Other times we hitched to the beach and just walked around.

One time about 5 of us left at once and went to the freeway on ramp and stuck out our thumbs.

2 mins; later a cop car came along!!

Just like the first time I hitched with 2 of my older friends, who happened to also be with me that day.

My father and step dad came down the st; and picked us up, problem was the took me home to my mom!

The cops picked us up and drove us back to school, walked us into the office where they tried to shame us for not following the rules. The dean of girls told us she expected more from us etc; She did not even know our names, she really could care less but put on a great show of caring about our futures!

My mom actually did not come down as hard and I expected she would.

Tertiary means Uni level to me.  A lot of young people are foregoing Uni for work as the perception is that a 3 year degree isn't going to increase your income significantly and it'll just create debt.  But that's not entirely true.  It depends where you are. It does add to net income over years.  What is surprising me is that people cannot get jobs - literally people do 100s of applications and cannot get a foot in the door.

I am sure our daughter will score a job easily - she's entrepreneurial.  But my son is just behaving exactly like a teenager he is.  He's a model for teenage sloth.  He'll regret it in the end.   Mrs F and I have discussed it in some detail and tried to tell him but he seems unfazed.  He seems to have a lot of anxiety.  I reckon he's got a far too comfortable middle class life here.  Hot and cold running services from the servants aka Mum and Dad.     I've tried to incentivise him.  Like I'll give you 3K HUF for brush up some leaves or hoovering the car.  Nope, no interest.   I hope he grows up by the time he's 18.

Uni here in HU is cheap.  It's about 600 EUR per semester (17 weeks).  So about 1200 EUR a year.  Unlike the UK, £9000 a year.  It's a no brainer.  Uni here is obviously the way to go.

🚗💨 20 km/h too fast: how much does it cost in Europe? 💸

If you're driving through Europe by car, you should better pay attention to the pace, because that can get really expensive! 😬 Even 20 km/h too fast costs a small fortune in some countries.

In Germany you are still relatively cheap. If you drive 20 km/h too fast here, it costs you 70 € in town and 60 € out of town.

In France you pay from 135 €, in Italy you even pay 175 €. It's getting really happy in the North: Norway demands at least 610 €, in Sweden it's from 215 €, and in Finland it can become even more expensive with 200 €. By the way, the fine depends on the income there! 💰

Britain is the most strict: here at 20 km/h too fast, they threaten a fine of up to €1,200! 😱 In Bulgaria, on the other hand, it remains more humane with €20.

➡️ So it's better to turn off the gas in time! It saves not only your wallet but your nerves as well.

Marilyn Tassy

Our son hid in his room at ages 15 to 17.

One day at 17 he came out and had a plan, he wanted a job.

He did not drive yet so I took him to the closest place near the house we leased in NM.

McDonald,s. He became the assistant night manager within 2 weeks!

When hire he had beautiful nearly waist length hair, one length and  red.

Had to get a , normal short cut to be a manager, he did it. I was sad about that.

Worked as a manager about one month and quit; The night manager was a silly middle aged women who he had to stay with until the night count was dropped;

Store closed at midnight and he was there till after 1AM; He told me he could of done the count in 10 mins but she was slow and redid the count over and over again, he just could not take it and was too young to be the head night manager;

Worked at several fast food spots near us, Taco Bell, Burger King, a Bagel shop then a friend of mine got him into Intel; He became the head of his small dept within a short time .

About 8 guys, the jobs there were good pay but you worked for a sub contractor not through Intel; After a bit they would train you to work inside a clean room for Intel;

I worked there too but only for 2 or 3 days, I got bored, had to dress up in clean suits, no makeup, no hairspray, no polish, nothing but super clean rooms; Had to suit up mask up and look at trash bags, change them out even if they were totally clean, un suit, put on another suit enter another clean room.

The money was good, 12 hour shifts with the last 4 hours being double time, 4 days a week , next week only 3 days.

He was on a crew that worked in a building in the back, not much pressure there with his crew of young guys;My team was about 8 Mexican women and myself; One worked with me at a beauty salon, she worked herself to death with 2 full time jobs to get her son a good lawyer; He was locked up for murder at age 17 and she wanted him to get a new trail.

Super nice lady, very sad.

Anyways, on Sundays Intel was super quiet; We ladies had to meet up, do one room of taking out trash bags, then we had about 6 to 8 hours to do nothing! We left Intel but had to stay together all those hours in case something happened and we all had to be back in a flash to Intel;

We went to Mexican places to eat, walked in the malls, rented movies and hung out at one ladies home; Long day, got paid to do nada really but so restrictive.

Intel would train people from the clean room crew to work on computers if you stay long enough.

My son worked there perhaps a year before we moved to Vegas but me, suppose to be the example quit within days!

My husband was semi spoiled as a young man too.

He learned the hard way when he was alone in the US. Ran out of money, went without food for days before his pay day. Everyone has to learn lessons.

We use the term , Higher Education or Continuing Education more often;
Thanks though, word of the day, Tertiary! - @Marilyn Tassy

- @fluffy2560

  At those prices, I should go to uni!

I know my  eldest sister had to work part time to pay for her own gas to get to collage. It was just a jr; collage, 2 extra years. It was at the time a big deal in the UK when she moved over there; Got a job with the news dept.NBC news with Peter Jennings, or was it ABC? NBC probably world news from London.

She said Peter was a real POS with a huge ego, seems to fit the part of a top tv person.

She used to fly all over Europe , get a free hotel room, food etc; just for volunteering to baby sit a camera that was needed at a location in Europe.

Now look at her, housecleaning and babysitting a 59 year old women.

My bro is suppose to go to court for real today; Gosh, he better get out!!

Cruel and unusual punishment; 2 times already he got up early sat in the jail van all day long waiting for court only for it to be moved to another date.

ATM a month ago they gave him an insane cell mate, after the last guy needed CPR and was taken to hospital;

This guy is a 65 year old Mexican who talks to himself all day and all night long!

He has some skin issue so it looks like snow all over the floors! He says is is the chief of some Ca; native tribe and makes 3 billion dollars a year! He also said Obama is the one who put him in jail!

My God more like a loony bin then a big house!

My bro sleeps allot and is trying to keep sane.

His son has his ATM card, I pray he is not robbing him blind!

I sometimes let my mind wander to who can I get to fly to Ca, take care of some business and fly out the same day!

Serve my own brand of justice to the one who set him up;

He said his son needs to sign a paper stating what he witnessed, that he was dumb to not fight it from the start. He was on the st; did not have on his leg and his car was not near by. His wife had him removed because he wanted his wheelchair!!

Do not know the exact details but WTH?

How can a person claim to love you to death then turn around and try to do you in dirty?

Scary times..... I have my new passport arriving soon. I just had a PM on Facebook Messenger from DHL saying it will arrive tomorrow with a tracking number and asking if I would like to change the date or location, with a link.

I'm not clicking any link, so I go to their website, enter the tracking number, and yes, it's my passport.

Question: How the hell did they get my Facebook account? I didn't give it to them or the UK Passport Office.

That's very worrying.  They are linking you up.  It's a two way street.  They are observing you without any basis.

I'm not in Facebook or LinkedIn.  Mainly because I'm not wasting my time on social media (without a hint of irony).  Some young guy maybe 23 years old complained he couldn't see me on LinkedIn.  I told him I don't use it. Deliberately.  He was so surprised.  But my view is that I don't need to use it.  It does nothing for me.

I'm in WhatsApp but that's really dodgy as well.  I am extremely cautious but even I've been targeted for scams.   It's just a massive zoo.

These days Uni is more accessible for older folks.  My cousin went to Uni in her 40s when her kids grew up.  She studied History and qualified as a teacher.  And has worked in schools every since but I think she's retired.  I was last in Uni in 1999 which is 26 years ago.  I was 39 when I finished that Uni.  I had started at 35 years old.  Took me 4 years to get through it.  I really struggled in Year 3 and nearly gave up but Mrs F gave me a telling off and I succeeded in the end. It was no cakewalk.

Sounds like your bro's situation is coming to some finality.  I hope the judge dismisses the charges and sets him free.    But he's been jailed for months on trumped up charges. I cannot see why they did that if there's nothing behind it. Maybe the wife said he was violent and aggressive and she was in fear of her life.  But he's a one legged man, hardly seriously plausible that she couldn't run away from him.  I guess being in the jail unnecessarily will give him no compensation.

My cousin just sent me a screen shot of the court docket.

I am numb, not sure if I want to kick a dog  or drink a bottle of hard stuff!

2 Years!!!!!!!!!!!!

He has done 63 days and they credit it as 125 days served but he still has days to come!

Going to move him to a min; security jail with 400 inmates.

From the info , he dam wife testified but was no sworn? I do not understand that.

It says he was under the influence of either alcohol or drugs at the time; Well ,yes, getting your leg chopped off I would think he had some pain meds in his system or meds for anxiety.

No mention of the drug store his wife is taking!

All I can hope for right now is an early release for good tie served.

I just want to cry and give him a hug.

I thought his lawyer was going to help him, change his plee or do something else; Useless .

I am glad I am an ocean away from his wife that is for sure!

If not I would also be serving 15 to 20!

That's fast but still  I find it very unacceptable passports cannot just be collected at the Embassy.

Paying for the courier is a bit much.

UK passports are way too expensive anyway.  Utter con job compared to the HU passport cost.

2 years seems a bit much.   As you say, of course he was on painkillers.  Needs a doctors' affidavit that he was on prescribed pain and other meds with potential side effects.  There must be psychological affects after having your leg taken away.

Minimum security seems to be a good answer, if any time has to be served anyway.  Why not probation?   He's not going to be able to run away from the jail.

On the other hand, presumably he can get free medical care for himself in the jail and take the time to heal up the leg and any mind issues.

Even that seems a step too far.   I don't like the idea of one's phone number being out there for anyone to look at.

I am going through a phase of being spammed in e-mail.   I have a web-based junk e-mail where everything is suspect and a real one where people have to "graduate in trust" to know it.

It allows me to filter spam quite reasonably.

I have Slightly calmed down, not seeing red ATM.

Did some yoga, forgo on  the crying and palinka!

I do not understand jail math but it looks like they credit you 2 days for everyday served?

I wrote his son asking him to be sure to open a account for my bro to be able to buy things in jail; They charge for everything, toothpaste, soap, TP. It is currency to have an account in jail;

My sister and cousin sent some funds but no one is made out of money and they charge allot for nothing in there; Big business to lock people up!

They have several companies that handle inmates funds in jail; Just pure evil to me.

I am learning about things I never wanted to know about!

I have no idea how is wife can live with herself;

My deceased sisters old BF broke her jaw in 3 places. I pushed her to press charges but she refused, said he was a mess already and did not want to hurt his life more; She later saw him at a concert,Midnight Oil; He saw her and smiled, all his front teeth were missing!Somebody gave him payback. My sister had nothing to do with it but she had friends.

I am just worried about his mental state after all this.

He really is a sweet guy with a big heart.

Has anyone heard of the exorcism in Debrecen?

Naked parents dragging their child in the street to remove the devil;

They were staying in a local hotel/spa and jst got nude, stripped their child and walked them down the street.

A Lutheran pastor claimed it was the parents who had the devil in them!

We have not see anything yet! People are losing their minds!

Yes, yesterday, I was told about this by Mrs Fluffy.  Doesn't matter where you go, there are loons on every corner.  Religion has so much to answer for.  Never mind sending the parents to some kind of looney bin, what about their priest?  Clearly he's as guilty as anyone.

On the other hand, I just found out there's a World Naked Bike Ride Day.   Never heard of it but rather popular in some countries.
