I looked at the routing of the Druzhba pipeline and the main part going towards Hungary and Slovakia passes through Ukraine. They could just turn it off inside their borders and stuff up Hungary and Slovakia.
- @fluffy2560

You forgot to mention the Ukrainians would stuff up Germany as well. Now add how much Germany sends to Ukraine,  how the US stopped military supplies to Ukraine without telling Germany, and the news about the Pentagon cutting US/Germany military communications a few hours ago.

Those minor details sort of make your post a lot of smelly doggy doo doo.

Major city may have to evacuate as water supplies run low

Tehran is not alone. Cape Town in South Africa narrowly avoided taps running dry eight years ago. Even London, known for its rain, is at risk.

Oh yes, this is fairly recurrent news.  I remember Cape Town's last drought.  I think the entire SE of the UK is over developed.  They should be moving people to Scotland.  I saw a report that the SE of the UK will be like the South of France.  Vineyards are expanding in the SE.  In France, it'll be desert.

Makes me wonder about Mars.  Yes, Mars. That's a dust bowl.   We could see the same environment building up on Earth.  Elon Musk could be taking a bath on his investment to get there.  Without water, the entire thing is a non-starter.

Desalination is a real problem too.  Uses huge amounts of energy.  In oil rich places like UAE, they are using it.. They supposedly dump the extracted salts back into the water turning the sea into a real saline soup devoid of life.

I started thinking of 2000 litres of storage, upped it to 5000 litres and now I'm considering, 10000 litres.  Keeps doubling.   When it rains in my village, the water goes straight into the ground to fill the aquifer and that rain has been declining (when I last checked).   They also take water out the Duna (Danube) which will affect those downstream.  It's a recurrent problem.  And it'll only get worse.

This one is concerning:

Trump administration warns Europe of 'civilisational decline' in new national security strategy

This is rather disturbing.  The National Security Strategy (NSS) sets out what many people will have suspected.  The US is abandoning Europe. There's a very high level of arrogance espoused in the idea of imposing demands for bases vs cooperation/partnership.

Whether the Trumpist agenda survives the next Presidency is unknown.  Probably some of it.  There's still 3 years of Trump to damage international relations permanently and for generations.

Europe needs to step up and fast otherwise Putin is going to be driving though the streets of Berlin and Warsaw and Trump is going to just roll over.

I wouldn't be surprised if Trump doesn't pull out US bases from Europe permanently and leaves NATO.

Update:

US threatens withdrawal from NATO if Europe doesn't take defense lead by 2027

"The United States is warning its NATO allies that Europe must take on more of its own defence, and fast. According to an exclusive Reuters report, the Pentagon has set an ambitious 2027 deadline for European nations to assume most of the alliance’s conventional military capabilities, a shift that could reshape the transatlantic relationship. If they fall short, Washington may scale back its role in NATO planning. "

There's a bit of hyperbole in this report but it remains to be seen if the US Congress actually agrees with Trump as I believe only they could vote to withdraw from NATO.   As for the MAGA base, who knows for sure.  Maybe there will be a shift when more Epstein news emerges if it implicates Donny in more dubiousness.

Fred

Europe needs to step up and fast otherwise Putin is going to be driving though the streets of Berlin and Warsaw and Trump is going to just roll over. - @fluffy2560

Please show your evidence.

NATO has expanded to the east and is now on Russia's borders.

NATO was trying to expand into Ukraine - That creating the potential for a pincer attack against Moscow (look at a map).

The US has been at war since 1947 without a break, so we can assume they are still the same threat to world peace that they have always been.

Russia has made no moves except in Ukraine,  and then only after the democratically elected government was removed and replaced with a puppet regime that took away voting rights for pretty much everyone who was likely to vote against it.

Biden did the world a massive favour when he stole Russia's money as he inadvertently started the big shift away from the US Dollar that will eventually destroy the US economy,  thus end the constant danger the US puts the world in.

Trump is great. His only interest is lining his own pockets, even when it costs the US dearly.  His greed and stupidity are exactly what the world needs as it turns the United States' friends into enemies, thus speeding up the process that will finally end the never-ending wars the US has started over the decades.

None of the above defends Putin, but I'm sure fools will see my objection to the US starting wars all the time as support for that particular Russian gentleman.

It's a mix of low IQ and lack of critical thinking skills that creates such limitations within idiots' brains. You can't really get angry at such people, but pity is fine.

fluffy2560

The horror show continues:

New US security strategy aligns with Russia's vision, Moscow says

"Russia has welcomed US President Donald Trump's new National Security Strategy, calling it "largely consistent" with Moscow's vision.

The 33-page document, unveiled by the US administration this week, suggests Europe is facing "civilisational erasure" and does not cast Russia as a threat to the US."

Fred

The link

Representative Jason Crow of Colorado, who sits on House committees overseeing intelligence and the armed forces, called the strategy "catastrophic to America's standing in the world".
New York Representative Gregory Meeks said it "discards decades of value-based, US leadership".

Crow is probably correct, but I would love to ask Meeks what value the constant US wars have brought to the world.

fluffy2560

What it comes down to is what i said before:

Trump sees Americas as his backyard, Putin will have Europe, MBS can have the Middle East and Africa and Xi takes Asia.

Trump is completely uninterested in any kind of long term alliances and has no sense of history or allegiance to any of his allies.   He's essentially abandoning Europe and cannot be trusted.

It's a very damaging document they've published.   Worst case is they manage to realise their plans and best case, they do nothing in the next 3 or 4 years and they are voted out.

If anyone invades the US islands out in the Pacific, I cannot see anyone international coming to help.  I don't even think Australia or New Zealand or Canada would join in.

I cannot recall if the US has ever won a war on its own. It's always late to the party. Main ones come to mind Vietnam: Fail, Afghanistan: Fail.

Makes me think of Venezuela. If I was Maduro, I'd be sending or would have by now sent my spies and fifth column to the US, ready to make mayhem. I couldn't see Maduro resisting much in a full assault but he could conduct a guerilla war from the jungle which could go on years.  It'll just be chaos.

Fred

Wrong. Trump wiil sell out US interests for cash in hs own pockets

It's a very damaging document they've published.

Yes, it is, and I like it.

Biden started the decline of the US as world leader and war starter, but Trump's stupidity will very probably drive the last nail into a coffin nobody will cry over.

There are only two questions - one is the timescale, the other being how they go out.

The former will be fast, perhaps 5 years or so, but the latter is more of a worry. Will the US disappear quietly into their new land of poverty, or will they start a world war in the hope of biing the least loser?

fluffy2560

Update:

There's an article in The Economist about this National Security Strategy (NSS).   The NSS was apparently written by one person with little input from elsewhere - according to the article.

Economist says:

"The first draft is thought to have been written by Michael Anton, a MAGA intellectual who is the State Department’s director of policy planning, without much input from a wide range of agencies and departments. Some see it as little more than a symbolic statement that will quickly become irrelevant, like many strategy documents of the past. Indeed, Mr Anton has left the administration. ....

....One test of consistency will be the forthcoming National Defence Strategy (NDS), which will have a different author—Elbridge Colby , the Pentagon’s top policy official—and which will set out priorities for the armed forces. If the NDS mirrors the America First, Euro-phobic vision of the NSS, then the documents would seem to reflect a genuine Trump doctrine—and the transatlantic relationship would sink into a deeper and more serious crisis. "

So we'll have to wait to see if the NDS has anything in it.  I expect no-one in Europe will like that either.   Some analysts think the NSS might be just irrelevant as it doesn't take into account any of the other significant countries in any of the spheres of influence.

BREAKING: Trump demands apology from CBS in FURIOUS tantrum about MTG after she humiliates him on 60 Minutes!

Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, the once-fervent MAGA loyalist who turned her back on Trump over his refusal to release the Epstein files, sat down with 60 Minutes’ Lesley Stahl to discuss her defection from the Trumper ranks, and she did not hold back.

MTG said that it would “shock” people to know what Republicans really say about Trump behind his back and hammered them for being spineless cowards, saying, “I’ve watched many of my colleagues go from making fun of him, making fun of how he talks, making fun of me constantly for supporting him, to when he won the primary in 2024. They all started — excuse my language, Lesley — kissing his ass and decided to put on a MAGA hat for the first time.”

This, of course, prompted a nuclear meltdown from Trump, who took to Truth Social to demand CBS News apologise to him and smeared MTG as a “traitor.”

“The only reason Marjorie “Traitor” Brown (Green turns Brown under stress!) went BAD is that she was JILTED by the President of the United States (Certainly not the first time she has been jilted!). Too much work, not enough time, and her ideas are, NOW, really BAD - She sort of reminds me of a Rotten Apple! Marjorie is not AMERICA FIRST or MAGA, because nobody could have changed her views so fast, and her new views are those of a very dumb person.”

“That was proven last night when washed up, Trump hating, 60 Minutes “correspondent,” Lesley Stahl, who still owes me an apology from when she attacked me on the show (with serious conviction!), that Hunter Biden’s LAPTOP FROM HELL was produced by Russia, not Hunter himself (TOTALLY PROVEN WRONG!), interviewed a very poorly prepared Traitor, who in her confusion made many really stupid statements.”

“My real problem with the show, however, wasn’t the low-IQ traitor; it was that the new ownership of 60 Minutes, Paramount, would allow a show like this to air. THEY ARE NO BETTER THAN THE OLD OWNERSHIP, who just paid me millions of Dollars for FAKE REPORTING about your favourite President, ME! Since they bought it, 60 Minutes has actually gotten WORSE! Oh well, far worse things can happen. P.S. I hereby demand a complete and total APOLOGY, though far too late to be meaningful, from Lesley Stahl and 60 Minutes for her incorrect and Libellous statements about Hunter’s Laptop!!! President DJT”

It will be interesting to see if he gets his apology from CBS, which has, up to this point, fallen over itself to accommodate Donald Trump and the right-wing agenda, even hiring right-wing extremist Bari Weiss to run CBS News.

But this is just another sign that Trump has no intention of rolling back his authoritarian attacks on the media. He’s trying to bully his way into creating a world that reflects his every whim and desire, and we cannot allow him to succeed.

---- - @SimCityAT

I watched some of that interview and what surprised me most about what she said is that many of her Republican colleagues are actually frightened of Trump.

You'd think if they were standing for election, they'd have some kind of ethical backbone to agree or oppose any policy or law that comes before them as representatives of the people.  It seems like most of them roll over for whatever Trump wants.

I think MTG behaved terribly before she seems to have come clean.  She needs to make a mega grovelling apology to everyone, not just those in her electroral district.   It really makes you wonder what was going on her mind during those times.  Was it all stress, survival, wtf was going on in her head?

The US is running out of ccash for it's forever wars, and it needs to cut back. The EU looks like a prime target as breaking that silly club up would really help mitigate the United States' financial mess. Smashng the Euro toy town money would force trade in local currencies, but also give the US a chance to push Dollar transactions.

As the Dollar's position in world trade dies, the US will have more and more problems mainaining its eccomony - Killling the Euro would offer a big opportunity.

Congratulations, EU, you are now a new great enemy of the US.

The problem isn't just that firms are now having to pay a whole load of tariffs on stuff they're importing. It runs deeper than that: in many cases those firms are struggling to work out how much those tariffs ought to be.

Not surprised.  In fact, maybe CNN gets folded into some other service or if the regulator does its job, it should make it independent of political interference, perhaps bought by a liberal newspaper group.  I should think a lot of the old faces would go.    Like I said before, Hungary has already gone down this path.  Mainstream media is all controlled by the government.  There are almost no independent voices now.  It's part of the plan.

Actually for those outside the USA, we don't care that much as we're not paying.  I saw that China's export figures are up despite the tariffs.  If the USA doesn't want to play ball, then all that will happen is China will look elsewhere as it has done.

Donald Trump has a late night meltdown over his cognitive decline, screeches that it's "treasonous" to report on his blatant dementia symptoms and insists that he's not "slowing up."

These are the unhinged words of a lunatic...

"There has never been a President that has worked as hard as me!" the Truth Social post began, a hilarious boast from a man who keeps falling asleep on camera inside the Oval Office and at high-stakes government meetings.

"My hours are the longest, and my results are among the best," Trump continued. "I’ve stopped Eight Wars, saving many millions of lives in the process, created the Greatest Economy in the History of our Country, brought Business back into the United States at levels never seen before, rebuilt our Military, created the Largest Tax Cuts and Regulation Cuts, EVER, closed our open and very dangerous Southern Border, when previous Administrations were unable to do so, and created an 'aura' around the United States of America that has led every Country in the World to respect us more than ever before."

Back here on Earth, Americans are struggling just to afford groceries thanks to Trump's disastrous tariffs and self-destructive economic policies. He may think that he has given this country an "aura" but really he's infected it with a "stench" of desperation, failure, and fascism.

"In addition to all of that, I go out of my way to do long, thorough, and very boring Medical Examinations at the Great Walter Reed National Military Medical Center, seen and supervised by top doctors, all of whom have given me PERFECT Marks — Some have even said they have never seen such Strong Results. I do these Tests because I owe it to our Country," Trump continued.

"In addition to the Medical, I have done something that no other President has done, on three separate occasions, the last one being recently, by taking what is known as a Cognitive Examination, something which few people would be able to do very well, including those working at The New York Times, and I ACED all three of them in front of large numbers of doctors and experts, most of whom I do not know," Trump went on.

"I have been told that few people have been able to 'ace' this Examination and, in fact, most do very poorly, which is why many other Presidents have decided not to take it at all," Trump continued.

As has been stated ad nauseam, the cognitive tests that Trump has undergone don't gauge intelligence and so they by definition can't be impressive and can't be "ACED." They're used to gauge mental deterioration and the fact that Trump is taking them at all is major cause for concern.

According to neurologist Dr Ziad Nasreddine, the man who designed the Montreal Cognitive Assessment in question, it's  supposed to "be easy for someone who has no cognitive impairment." He also stated that is is "not an IQ test or the level of how a person is extremely skilled or not."

Trump's post went on further, proving that this narrative of cognitive decline has burrowed deep beneath his infamously thin skin—

"Despite all of this, the time and work involved, The New York Times, and some others, like to pretend that I am 'slowing up,' am maybe not as sharp as I once was, or am in poor physical health, knowing that it is not true, and knowing that I work very hard, probably harder than I have ever worked before," Trump wrote. "I will know when I am 'slowing up,' but it’s not now! After all of the work I have done with Medical Exams, Cognitive Exams, and everything else, I actually believe it’s seditious, perhaps even treasonous, for The New York Times, and others, to consistently do FAKE reports in order to libel and demean  'THE PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES.'"

"They are true Enemies of the People, and we should do something about it," he continued. "They have inaccurately reported on all of my Election Results and, in fact, were forced to apologize on much of what they wrote. The best thing that could happen to this Country would be if The New York Times would cease publication because they are a horrible, biased, and untruthful 'source' of information. Thank you for your attention to this matter. MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!"

Given Trump's profound lack of respect for the First Amendment — demonstrated by his efforts to force Jimmy Kimmel off the air and his attempts to bully publications and networks into silence — it's possible that he's laying the groundwork for some kind of ham-fisted lawsuit or authoritarian power grab against the Times. If so, he's going to face one hell of an uphill battle. He can claim that he's not "slowing down" all he wants, the rest of us can see the evidence clear as day. This man's mind is rotting inside his head.

It looks like Venezuela is going to be the next victim.

I wonder how many people the US is going to kill this time.

This is supposed to be about Israel's mass killing spree in Gaza and a lot of other countries in the region, but it suggests more.

I have now read the article  but my jumping in feet first worked anyway.

I cannot see that happening.  There cannot be support to unanimously change the charter.  Plenty of countries do not like the US and any signatory could veto it I expect.  US is not a member of the ICC as far as I know.  The ICC can investigate who they want.   However, if Trump etc travel to a signatory country, he should be arrested. It's kind of interesting this has come up now. Presumably to do with Venezuela and blowing up the drug boats.  Illegal of course.  But there's so much Trump is doing which would warrant an investigation.

He's obviously going to be limited in where he can go after he's finished this time around. Must worry him.

The US, after many murders at sea, has just committed an act of piracy in sending heavy armed troops to steal the unarmed IMO: 9304667 Skipper, a Nigerian owned tanker.

They claim the theft is covered by US sanctions,  but that's just an excuse to gain control of Venezuela's massive oil reserves.

The ICC should be involved by putting arrest warrants out for all involved in the above crimes, Trump being top of the list.

Saw that in the news this morning.

Looks like crazy Trump wants to start a war.

I am ashamed of him as an American citizen.

The situation is clearly designed to disable Venezuela's oil industry.

The ships need to adopt WWII tactics of sailing in convoy with military escort.

One has to look at Venezuela's oil customers to see the danger the US is placing the world in (again).
