Laura Beg is one of the most popular artists of the local Mauritian scene. A popularity slowly spreading besides our borders. After a few years of absence, she returns this year with a new album, Lespri Sega. A new opus which as its name indicates it is entirely dedicated to sega music in an attempt for the singer to reconnect to her roots.

She debuted at just 16

The singer made her debut at the age of 16 performing mainly in pubs in Grand-Baie. Her meeting with Alain Ramanisum, then a member of the mythical Cassiya was almost inevitable. The pair was soon married. Laura Beg collaborated with her husband and Cassiya in the early 2000 before flying off on her own.

In 2009, Laura Beg released her first solo album, 'Oté cafrine', an astounding success both in Mauritius and in the region, especially in Reunion Island. Two years later, she released 'Tik Tiker'. With this title, the singer asserts herself as one of the most appreciated artists of the Mauritian public.

In 2014, she released her third album 'Mo ti Ker'. Her fourth album 'Intuitions' takes a little more work and is released in stores in 2017. A much more intimate opus that allows the public to discover a new side to the artist. She wrote the album entirely and also composed the melodies including some sega but also zouk, dancehall, reggae music...

That year, Laura Beg participated in the Coke Studio Africa contest. She is the first Mauritian artist to perform there. She also asserted herself on the international scene by performing in Paris, Australia, Canada, England, without forgetting Reunion Island.

Lespri Sega, to reconnect with her roots

That's five for the singer.. Five years after 'Intuitions', Lespri Sega' is already in stores and on digital platforms. If over the years, the artist has revealed herself in various musical styles, dancehall, seggae or reggae, her new album is entirely dedicated to sega. Twelve rhythmic tracks that relating the good old days and love stories.

This new album should have been released in 2020 but... pandemic! Two years later and with the easing of the sanitary protocol, Laura Beg can finally meet her fans again. The album was recorded at Ravanna Roots Studio. The mixing was done by Richard Hein and musical arrangements by Alain Ramanisum. Caroline Jodun provides the backing vocals. Laura Beg worked with her husband for the composition of the 12 tracks of the album. She was also inspired by her son for this album, especially for the track 'Sa to lamizik'.

Concerts and trips abroad

Artists can breathe again since the easing of sanitary measures. Having been deprived of concerts since 2020, they have been back on stage for a few weeks now. And the public will finally be able to see Laura Beg in live concerts over the next few weeks. She will be on stage at the Hennessy Park Hotel in Ebene this Saturday, July 30. The next day, she will perform on the stage of N'Joy, in Grand-Baie.

The singer will then head to Reunion Island for a concert on Saturday, August 6 at the St-Gilles theater. Then, next destination: Canada, for a concert on August 14. Laura Beg also plans to do a big indoor concert in Mauritius as an opportunity to reconnect with all her fans after many years.
