Fasil.mu, as the name suggests, aims to make things easier by digitizing government services and allowing various procedures and payment to be made from the comfort of your home.

This website was launched in May 2020 while the country was experiencing its first lockdown. In the face of the pandemic, the aim of fasil.mu was to keep government services up and running while everyone was at home. More than two years later, the website is ever evolving and allows more and more transactions to be made from the comfort of one's home.

Online services

This new portal offers many services including: online payments, foreign affairs, agriculture, family welfare, education, business, environment, taxes, utilities, land and construction and transportation. It also allows you to request legal assistance.

Through fasil.mu, you can pay your electricity or water bills online. The portal also connects you to the Mauritius Revenue Authority (MRA), for information and easy completion of tax forms.

The website is pretty user-friendly. By choosing a category, you will be directed to the different services offered. Just click on what you are looking for and you will be redirected to the government website in question. The rest is just as simple. You just have to follow the different steps.

Whether you are applying for a license, a real estate project or starting a business, fasil.mu allows you to do everything online. Make sure you have all your documents at hand.

The resident permit in a few clicks

Future expats are not left out. You can apply for your resident permit by visiting fasil.mu. How? Upon entering the website, click on the 'Business' category. You will find the option 'Occupation/Resident Permit', choose this box and then 'CLICK'. You will be redirected to the Economic Development Board (EDB) page - the entity that issues permits to foreigners.

Then choose 'Work & Live'. There are two options: 'Occupation/Residence Permit' and 'Premium Visa'. They are accompanied by laws that will allow you to better document the applications you wish to make and the legal framework of the two permits. According to your choice, click on 'Apply'. Registering on the site will be the first step. For the rest, you will just have to follow the instructions.
