Change at the Beach Authority

No more fights with hotel managers: the definition of public beach is being changed from the distance between the Low Water Mark and the High Water Mark to a distance of 100m from the Low Water Mark. The Beach Authority will also be given other powers, including the ability to provide recreational activities on public beaches, improve water quality and restore native vegetation on public beaches. A permit from the Beach Authority will also be required to operate a business on a public beach or erect a sign.
