Mauritius to officially leave EU blacklist in February 2020

Better days are ahead for Mauritius' financial sector. Following its removal from the Financial Action Task Force (FATF) grey list on October 21, Mauritius is expected to leave the European Union (EU) blacklist soon. Indeed, the new EU blacklist was amended by the European Commission this week. This decision is expected to become official by early February 2022.

Nearly 50,000 unemployed in the country

The unemployment rate in Mauritius stands at 9.5 percent compared to 10.4 percent in the third quarter of 2020. According to official figures, Mauritius currently has 49,800 unemployed people compared to 59,100 in the same period in 2020. Among this, 29,300 are men and 20,500 are women.

Other figures: the country had 476,100 employees in the third quarter of 2021 compared to 507,400 in the third quarter of 2020.

About 30 COVID-related deaths recorded this week

The country is experiencing some stability in COVID-19 contamination rates. More than 250 new cases were detected this week. Among them, 102 were imported. Currently, 156 patients are admitted to different hospitals on the island. Five patients are on artificial respirators. The number of patients admitted is decreasing, according to the authorities. However, about 30 people have died this week. Most of them suffered from comorbidities.
