Last week was the first trail race of 2021, the Mare Longue Circuit offering either a 12km or a 17km trail in the Black River Gorges passing by the Mare Longue Reservoir.

In Mauritius and in Rodrigues, trail races are becoming more and more popular every year. Whether you're a trail runner, or you just want to see more of this beautiful island, here are a few trail races not to be missed this year

Raid West- 20th of February
The next trail will take place on the 20th of February. Two options are available: 10 km and 16km. Both of them are very technical and are for experienced runners. The trail begins in Petrin and ends in Chamarel with a few panoramic views on the southern part of the island.

Trail des Goyaves- 20th of March
Magenta Cross Trail- 3rd of April
Trail championships- 17th of April
Once again two options are available: the 12km and the 32 km race. Both of them take place in the Black River Gorges and the 32km race is very technical and reserved for experienced runners.
Royal Raid- 8th of May
The Royal Raid is one of the most popular races of the country. You can choose between the 15km, the 37km and the 70km. They all take place in the Black River Gorges.
La Ferme Trail- 29th May
The La Ferme Trail takes place by the Corps de Garde mountain. Options are the 11km and the 22km. This route gives nice views on the western coast.
Parakeet Challenge- 19th of June
The Parakeet trail is rather short with two options being 6kms and 9kms. However, the Parakeet is known to be a very physical trail.
Dodo Trail- 4th of July
The Dodo trail is one of the most popular trail races in Mauritius and offers several options for younger runners as well as for the more experienced: 4km, 10km, 25km and 50km. Participants can participate in tandems for the 50km race. The race takes place in the South Eastern part of the island and is known to offer incredible views on this coast.
Beachcomber Trail- 24th of Juy
Heritage Trail 8th of August
Trail de la Liberté- 21st of August
Ferney Trail- 18th of September
Along with the Dodo Trail, the Ferney Trail is one the most awaited event of the year for trailers, hikers and nature lovers. The trail races - 4km, 10km, 20km and 38km- take place in the wonderful Ferney valley with incredible views on the South-Eastern coast of the island.
Moka Trail- 2nd of October
The Moka Trail is also a popular race taking place in the centre of the island in Moka. Depending on the chosen trail, this race takes its participants on the several peaks of the Moka Range. Options are the 6km, 15km and 30km.

Rodrigues Trail- 7th of November
This trail happens on Rodrigues island and is a chance for you to visit this little pearl. The options are 7km, 14km, 27km and 50km. Rodrigues island is a must see and this could be the perfect way to discover the island. Depending on the course chosen, the race will mainly take place on the South-West of the island or can also cover the whole island if you go for the 27km or the 50km.
