This is a discussion for anyone feeling displaced, or simply culturally homeless.

The information you provide will help my personal understanding of the subject, and it may potentially be used for the purposes for my research based on international mobility of skilled professionals (please contact me if you require further information).

I left Venezuela almost 14 years ago. I moved to Spain and I was very, very happy. Back then Venezuela was my homeland.

Then I moved to England. Mmh. My home was still Venezuela but I realized I had partly assumed some of the Spanish culture. My parents are Spanish, so there is also my upbringing taking part on this.

Then I married and Englishman, and together we moved to France, where I became a mother of two. Mmhh. Venezuela was where I was born, but I no longer felt Venezuelan. I felt partly Spanish and partly British.

Then I made many Spanish friends. I no longer felt partly Spanish.

Then we moved back to England. I no longer felt partly British.
Venezuela is no longer my homeland; it is just land, like any other country in the world.

I am culturally homeless. I am displaced.

Not sure I like it.

they say home is where the heart is.

I am Egyptian, so says my passport. My parents are Egyptian, but they moved to Kuwait, where I was born, and lived for my entire life. I travel to Egypt every Summer, for my family is there, but I stick out as being an "expat", I had a charming conversation once with the dean of my faculty back in uni where he told me, point blank, you are not from around here are you?

I do not know Egypt, and in Kuwait I find myself growing steadily displeased with the life around me. Do not let the title of "Kuwait Animator" fool you, if it were up to me, I wish to be anywhere else in the world; Canada, USA, EU. Wherever.

I believe our identity lies in our mind, and it is influenced not just by the people around us, but by everything we come in contact with; be it the media, travel, new experiences, friends etc.

We are all children of the world now :)
