Hello,

I came to Belgium last week and I am actually in Antwerp. I have a 500 euro note that no one is accepting.
I have no bank account yet and I am feeling stuck how to change it to smaller notes 😟😟
Any one have an idea how to get rid with this note ?

Thanks in advance

Hi and welcome to the Forum.

Although still legal tender, the 500 Euro note is no longer issued and as you have discovered, many places no longer accept them because of problems with forgeries.  Take it to a bank, they will be able to test if it's a forgery and assuming all is well, change it for smaller denominations.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for your reply Cynic but these days banks are closed and only ATMs are there for customers.
Even with the few banks that are working, they only serve their customers. It's really a tough situation 😕

Bureau de change at the airport?

I will try in Antwerp airport 🧐

Shops never really liked taking it in the first place because of its high value. You could also try post office if banks will not take it.

I've already tried the bpost office without success
