Hi

I have a child from a previous marriage, I have since gotten married to a Mauritian. We are seriously considering moving from SA to Mts. Upon arrival in Mts we would probably have to get married legally there not quite sure how it works for me to get a spousal permit, my concern is my son. Will he be allowed entrance and if so what documentation would I need to sort out????????????????

if your son is a minor, he should not have any trouble entering Mauritius as your son. If he is over 18yrs old, then you might have to check with an immigration lawyer to sort it out.

You can do all of this on your own at no cost other than time.

You will need to double check with the BOI and/or visa and immigration department of the Mauritian government what I am about to say as it is a year or so ago when one of my friends went through something similar.

If you child is under 18 and will only be in Mauritius for a short time to visit you occasionally, then they could come in to the country on a tourist visa with no worries.  If they are over 18, then a temporary visit again could either be on a tourist visa or for a more permanent stay, a professional visa that they would have to arrange themselves.

If they will be staying permanently as a child, then you can get the appropriate permit through the BOI.  You will need to complete the appropriate paperwork which may or may not include the other parent's certified approval for you to take the child out of the country of origin.

You may also have to put up a bond through the BOI which would cover the cost of your removal and your child's from Mauritius if you and your family were deported.  Since you are married to a Mauritian, it may not be necessary though, I'm not sure.

Get in touch with the BOI (investmauritius.com) as they are very helpful.  Again, you should be able to sort this out on your own pretty easily without having to go through an immigration lawyer or some other consulting group.
