Expat father traveling with child without mother internationally

It is not just Saudi laws that you must worry about, you need to consider the requirements of international laws regarding travel with a minor.

In most cases you won't even be allowed to board a flight unless you have a valid passport for the child (most nations now have a one person - one passport policy and parents may no longer simply add a child on their passport).

You also will need a notarized letter of consent from the child's other parent which details your identification and relationship to the child, destination, your dates of departure and anticipated return, address where the child will normally reside while in the destination country, contact telephone number for the other parent, etc. You will likely also need the ORIGINAL of the child's Birth Certificate.

In most cases, if you cannot obtain all of the above you would require an order of the Court that would permit you to travel.

In today's world, sadly, travel with a child is anything but easy. However the protection of children is the paramount concern of every nation on earth.

Never had any issue traveling alone to and from KSA when I was a "minor". Only passport and exit/reentry visa.

Things have changed substantially since then, mostly as a result of International Parental Child Abduction, The Hague Convention on the Civil Aspects of International Child Abduction (which numerous nations have now ratified), and the international trafficking of persons.
