We are moving to Mauritius end of this month and are planning on eventually getting a puppy for my daugther. Can you buy puppies in Mauritius or is there an RSPCA equivalent there where you can adopt a puppy? What breed of dogs do you get there? Any info would be great. Thanks!

We got our puppies about 3 months ago from the local dog charity - PAWS. http://www.pawsmauritius.org/. It's down in the south near the airport/Mahebourg. You pay a nominal amount to cover vaccinations - I forget how much but its very small. They are of mixed breed, as are most dogs in Mauritius, but we are very happy with them.

You can buy breed dogs - check the local classifieds in newspapers, but from what I see, they seem to be limited to german shepherds and griffins mostly. Anything else you would have to import from europe and needless to say, it will cost a fortune.
