Where is the best place to be if catastrophe hits?

What with the world’s political, economic, social situation looking ever more dire, where would the best place be if the situation worsens and catastrophe hits?

I have been thinking of South America, maybe Chile although I have never visited the country.

What you need is a place that's reasonably politically stable so you won't wake up to gunfire and shouts of, "Kill the president" but where, in the event of Euro toy town cash coughing up metaphorical blood and collapsing in a financial toilet while on holiday in Greece, you'll still have enough cash to live well and be able to afford local prostitutes.
Asia worked for me but I can see ...
Hang on - that kebab last night requires further action involving a short walk and a sit down....
Ah, better, I knew there was too much spicy sauce on it.

Anyway, Asia is quite good because not so many revolutions but much is quite modern so even less adventurous westerners can live there without giving much up. The exchange rate makes living cheap, if that's your interest.
As a bonus, funerals are equally cheap. That can be handy information if you settle in Thailand where expats seem to drop like flies.
I'd be tempted to suggest spreading your cash around a little. The Euro looks like it may well make like a brick that's been tossed out of an aeroplane and the US$ could be a problem in the event of yet another stupid war and OPEC countries giving the US a middle finger's worth of an oil embargo.
(Bit of a stretch but you never know)
That thing about eggs and baskets is an old but none the less wise idiom.

One thing that has to be taken into account is the quality and cost of medical care. On our Caribbean island (see my blog), my wife and I have always looked to the US for serious medical problems, but the expense is horrendous - even with insurance. At the moment we're considering Cuba and Jamaica as places to go for high-cost treatment - Jamaica for emergencies and Cuba for non-emergencies. Costs in Central America are relatively low for dental and medical.

"Medical tourism" has become popular, for good reason. Many Americans go south, these days, and many English go to India.

The best place to be during a global catastrophe is the international space station.

Further on the topic of medical insurance outside the US: this website internationalliving.com/daily-postcards/ is well worth subscribing to. (It's free.) One of their postcards arrived in my box just now, telling of a US couple's experience. I have filed the email, for retrieval when I need it.

North or south pole maybe?

South would be better.  Polar bears can eat you.  Penguins can't.

Amazon forest! We are designed to survive and adapt, there is all kind of resources on the Amazon

In event of a major catastrophe I want to be in the middle of a redneck Survivalist Group Encampment somewhere in the Rocky Mountains of Idaho, surrounded by a bunch of crazy yahoos who are armed to the teeth with high powered assault rifles.

I'm with you Hailey,
