German/Australian bilateral visa waiver agreement

I am wanting to take advantage of the German Australian bilateral visa waiver agreement which allows Australians to stay in German for a further 90 days after exhausting my first 90 Schengen days (after first leaving the Schengen zone to a non Schengen port)

Question:

Does the Schengen clock reset after these 3 months in Germany (as it typically would if I left the Schengen zone all together)?

I am assuming it does as the bilateral agreement is a different visa waiver but want to be sure?

Does anyone have experience with this or can direct me to the information?

This is a very specific question about a situation concerning only few people. If you don’t get a useful answer here, I suggest asking the German embassy instead!
