USA:

A social influencer called Charlie Kirk shot in the neck and is apparently dead.

I've never heard of him but he was one of Trump's entourage or major supporters.  He was a MAGA person.

According to reports,  no perp has been arrested at this time.  The shot was from 200 yards away which is quite a distance.  Looked like pretty catastrophic injuries from videos I've seen.

His passing doesn't mean much to me personally or for here in HU but what it means for the USA, no idea.

Marilyn Tassy

People are losing their minds.

That poor Ukrainian young lady was stabbed by an crazy homeless 14 loser in the neck as she sat on her phone on a train in NC.

Just did a shift at a pizza parlor working, she was just trying to live her life in the US.

Escaped the war only to be stabbed to death in the US.

Situational awareness, seeing the video of her murder and noticed no one was watching, everyone had their noses on their phones, she did too, never saw it coming.

The European Commission approved the regrouping of €545 million for Hungary from its previously frozen cohesion funds but most payments remain subject to the rule of law conditions set earlier.

As part of the mid-term review process of the cohesion policy, the Commission adopted a decision on the reprogramming of €545 million by Hungary from the Economic Development and Digital programmes to new STEP priorities.

"However, since Hungary continues to not fulfil the Horizontal Enabling Condition on the Charter of Fundamental Rights relating to academic freedom, the newly reprogrammed funds will not be disbursed," a Commission spokesperson told Euronews.

Yes, read that.   OV will probably wriggle and get something out of it.  I personally think OV should be given an ultimatum.  Either comply with the club's rules or p*** off out of it.   But I guess UvL and Co know how to bide their time. OV cannot last forever.

The cancer that's infecting many nations nowadays has metastasised to Slovakia - looks like more human right concerns there.

The Pope died? I guess I really have not been paying attention to the news for awhile.

Side effects of cancer treatments, code for he has major diarrhea and stiff muscles. Major brain fade as well.

Poor guy, waited so long to be King and then got ill.

He must be in poor condition since he is still undergoing treatments.

IDK,Did I just respond to an old post?

Actually do not even know who is Pope ATM.

Nah, current Pope, Leo XIV is OK. And he's only 70 and in good health.  The "new Pope" is the one from Chicago which is kind of interesting.  But  not like we've seen anything interesting from him.  He's also a Peruvian citizen I believe. I am surprised he hasn't said something stronger about current abuse going on "back home" (in the USA).

Anyway, if he was dead then we'd all know about it 500 x a day.

Trump got in on the act by creating AI pictures of himself as Pope.  How crass is that?  Like his Trump signature black and gold bling style with faux French renaissance furniture.  Ugh.  Much like his style, that guy is all talk and no trousers.  What a w**ker.

That's Trump all over.  It makes no sense.  There's no Antifa organisation to act against and it's against the 1st amendment to try and stifle free speech and freedom of assembly.  He's also violating the Posse Comitatus Act deploying soldiers to police the population.   It will be halted by a federal judge. But he'd have to deploy as judges are not the thought police.  He said he'd invade Chicago and did nothing.

Trump does this.  He tries something on to see what he can get away with.  The Roberts' SCOTUS is very Trump oriented so who know what they'd do if faced with a challenge to the constitution as Trump tries each time.

That stupid "Thank you for your attention in this matter" is what they teach you in writing letters 101.  Gimme a break.  I suppose he doesn't know the difference between "Yours sincerely" or "Yours faithfully" either.

As it stands, I'm more worried if Trump will actually back up NATO as we're for sure going into war against Russia.  He's made all sorts of statements which in my mind, makes the USA completely untrustworthy. He's President of Chaos as well as the USA.   Will he have the cajones to back up NATO or not?  I just don't know.  But if I was in the power centres of Europe, I'd be making Plan B,C and D that didn't include the USA.

It's stupid as the USA will be pulled into it regardless.  And if Europe rolls over into Russian control, it will hit Trump directly in his pocket as it's a major trading partner.   To ignore global trade or try to screw over your partners is just beyond foolishly negligent.

Looks like DJT missed out on the Nobel prize.  I don't know why he ever thought he'd win it. He's a divisive figure everywhere.  He didn't even know what Habeas Corpus is.  And neither did DHS Barbie Noem (or Gnome). Jeez!

Personally I liked the choice of the Venezuelan opposition leader. It was a careful choice.

But I could have quite possibly see a shared prize with the Belarussian opposition leader.

I'm really fed up those people will be in Hungary.  It'll block up the streets, disrupt the airport and the traffic.

It's for Orban's personal aggrandisment.  Does nothing for the locals.

Putin should be arrested by the ICC.    Hungary is a contracted state.  At the moment.  It's due to leave in 2026 but it will be right back in sharpish once Orban is out.

IMHO, Hungary is so far gone, it should be expelled from the European Union along with Slovakia.

Right now it seems irredeemable.

Fred

The US president should be arrested for ordering extrajudicial murders.

Biden should be arrested for overthrowing the legitimate government of Ukraine, thus causing the war.

Bush and Blair should be arrested for their illegal invasion of Iraq and the mass killings they are directly responsible for.

Most of the Israeli government should be arrested for mass murder in Gaza, as Hamas people should be arrested for doing the same, albeit on a far smaller scale, in Israel.

However, geopolitical propaganda commonly refuses to blame mass murdering killers who are doing it to give freedom and democracy to people too stupid to run their own countries,  even when it means removing an internationally recognised,  freely elected government to do so.

That's what Ukraine had before the NED set up the revolution to bring true democracy to Ukraine, and made sure it kept true democracy by excluding voters who didn't want real democracy (As defined by the US).

Biden should be arrested for his rather pathetic attempt to place a US puppet president in Indonesia.

Still, these weren't big stories in the west so nobody complains.

When you actually read the news rather than the Daily Mail style version, you learn a lot more than blaming Putin for everything.

Still, a good government needs an enemy to blame for high gas prices.

Oh, yes, expensive US shale gas is now a big seller and driving your heating bills up because far cheaper Russian gas is paying for war crimes. So is US shale gas, but those are good war crimes because the US says so.

As for solar and wind - That's mostly  Chinese, and the Chinese Communists are far too good at capitalism to not be evil, so you can't have that.

I don't disagree with some of that.  Blair is hardly a credible person to run some Gaza authority - and a POTUS boot licker.

And many of them - Trump, Putin and Netanyahu should be in The Hague.

Trump is supposedly  a peacemaker.  I couldn't think of a worse person to get the Nobel Peace Prize.

I'm in a majority Islamic country right now and the view from here amongst the locals is that Netanyahu is war criminal.   I cannot disagree.   In a broader context, I can see parallels on the crushing of the Tamil Tigers in Sri Lanka.

But then again, wasn't that the place where all the  Nazis went after WW2?

I always thought Orban would rush to Dubai.  Rumour mills say that's where the stolen loot is hidden in a "personal" bank set up for the elites in HU right wing politics.  Note I said rumour.

Yes, it might be for different reasons.  Hungarians to escape Orban, Germans to get to right havens.

I'd have thought Americans natural home would probably be the UK or Ireland or perhaps Spain depending.

Mrs F and I favour Spain, probably the Canary Islands.    But we need that all important lottery win first.

Of course standard Brexit would only allow me 90 days there.

I heard someone on the radio who said 3 years (post-Trump tariff maybe) and there will be another UK referendum on going back into the EU.  I think the UK government is waiting for polls to show 70%+ in favour.   Then it'd be more or less in the bag and we'll be back to square one with a worst deal than when we left.  And the Euro will be in our wallets.

Brexit = farce.

Foreigner meddling in their host country's politics is unwise.

Given the potential for violence at these foreign funded demonstrations,  it's possible attending might see accusations of foolishness aimed at you. Add the potential for your arrest, possible incarnation, and deportation, foreigners attending would seem like a very silly idea.

Also, given the election that kept Orban in power was OSCE monitored and seen as free and fair, you will be working against a democratically elected government, thus against democracy.

Elections decide a government in a democracy,  not foreign governments who dislike the results of elections.

Yes, I do get that.  Mrs F said it was voluntary (it always is).   As I was saying, I've been at other protests. I'm just an observer. Mrs Fluffy and the kids are really involved, not me.   And if there's bother I can run far enough to get away. I'll just pay for it the next day.   Nothing happened previously and in some ways it was rather dull.  If anything would stop me, it's my hip, not the risk of violence or the authorities tracking me.

I was quite upset in some ways I did NOT go to the Pride march. I really believe in free and open liberal society.  It's a source of great frustration here at Fluffy Towers.

I will be avoiding the city with Trump visiting.  I cannot stand to look at the evil triplets or listen to anything they say. I've had enough of them. All they need are a few of the Trump boot lickers, Prince Andrew and Epstein to turn up and it'd be like a meeting of an apocalypse planning committee.

I guess  your friend is at the No Kings marches.  Good for her.  I hear there are solidarity marches in other countries. I like to see that world level cohesion.  Maybe the Democrats should rename themselves the No Kings Party. Might get more mileage out of it.   I'm in favour of our king, Charles.  So No Kings wouldn't work but "No Kings (with exceptions)" might work.

The king outside of the UK I've got time for is King Abdullah of Jordan and his father, King Hussein before him.  Really tough job he has in a dangerous corner of the world.  Elsewhere, the Al Sauds, nah.

It is going to be 69 years since the 1956 revolution.

Makes you wonder what they died for at times.

In the past we always walked to the spot near the Downtown church where my then 9 year old husband saw a tank, Russian tank run over a young  female protester.

People have no idea what ground they are walking on, sad.

Yes, it's special ground.

That would be like visiting an ancient battlefield.  Think about all the bodies piled up there.  I guess it depends if it's in recent memory.  Like your hubby it was lived experience. We have video of course to relive or observe those times as more recent moments.  No-one has anything significant (video wise) on wars before the 1914-18 war.

Every village in the UK has a war memorial.  They still leave flowers (poppies) on them each year on the Sunday closest to November 11.   The war veterans and the people turn out for it.   Some memorials will just disappear - the Yugoslav ones will or have collapsed into obscurity.   No such thing as the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia now.  Not that I care that much about Yugoslavia, not really on my radar.

I wonder if the 1956 revolution is going to be re-written over time. What with Orban's best mate Vlad coming to visit?  It's a memorial to Soviet aggression.   And yet, here we are again, with Russia on our doorstep and Orban the appeaser sucking up big time.   Oh, and Trump, the other Putin apologist is spouting Russian rhetoric again.  He's the ultimate Mr Flip Flop.  As soon as Putin gets to Trump, TACO man has flipped again, back to Russia's view.   Latest reported this morning is Trump telling Zelenskyy to give up the Donbas.

I've been watching German newsreels on WW2.  There's Adolf and his cronies ranting on.  The spin they put on things is just absurd.  It's a bit of history as we all know what happened in the end.  But at the time, this is all people saw.  I wonder what our present day is going to look like to people in 50 years time.

SimCityAT

I don't see an issue, as long as you are not participating in the protest, seen shouting slogans, holding placards, etc.... You can say that you were passing by and were intrigued by what was happening in an English accent if you were stopped. You would probably just get told to move on.

I've come across loads of protests in Vienna and not once had any issue with the police. I go into tourist mode, just like when I get quite often stopped in the street by the likes of CND, Greenpeace. My response to them is, you can sell me anything you like, it's no use, I'm British. As soon as they hear my accent, they walk away.

Marilyn Tassy

If we are still here in 50 years, I am sure there will be a spin on history.

I see it in my own lifetime slowly part of the story is left out then new info more like gossip is tossed in and the entire thing is mixed up.

My grandfather who was born in 1882 used to go on about history back in the 40s and 50s,The Rockerfellers were the demons, well he was:is right about that.

He was in the Spanish American war at age 14. Used to sit around the campfire with old guys in the 40s and 50s who had served in the Civil War. They had a different spin on events then our history books tell us.

What is the old saying believe nothing you hear and half of what you see?

True you can just waltz by a protest and act like a tourist who lost their map.

Done things like that before, just waltzed in and if anyone looked twice I would put on a silly  tourist front and keep on walking with a silly smile on my face. Of course though if things start flying be ready to duck and cover!

If we are still here in 50 years, I am sure there will be a spin on history.I see it in my own lifetime slowly part of the story is left out then new info more like gossip is tossed in and the entire thing is mixed up.My grandfather who was born in 1882 used to go on about history back in the 40s and 50s,The Rockerfellers were the demons, well he was:is right about that.He was in the Spanish American war at age 14. Used to sit around the campfire with old guys in the 40s and 50s who had served in the Civil War. They had a different spin on events then our history books tell us.What is the old saying believe nothing you hear and half of what you see?True you can just waltz by a protest and act like a tourist who lost their map.Done things like that before, just waltzed in and if anyone looked twice I would put on a silly tourist front and keep on walking with a silly smile on my face. That's my plan, go tourist mode.  Be hard to explain I suppose if I'm in the middle.  I don't know if our kids are going.  Don't want them to be exposed to any fighting or aggression.

Mrs F says if there is aggression, it will be Orban's stormtroopers who will stir it up. Ok, emotive words and maybe overdone.  Of course Tisza is promoting peaceful transition away from Fidesz.

I saw a news report there were many millions at the No Kings protest but no arrests at all.  That's quite something. And what does Trump do?  He posts an AI pic of himself wearing a crown flying a fighter bomber and dropping crap on the protesters.  Really, does it have to be that crass?  His numbers are underwater.

And to add to the wisdom, the victors write the history.

Oh and of course, the ceasefire has broken down in Gaza.  Nobel prize? My eye!

BTW, Remembrance Sunday this year is 9 November, 2025.

For Hungary, as usual, I expect it to take place at the Solymar Commonwealth Cemetery at 11am.

When I can make it, I go for my Dad who served about 12 years including throughout WW2.

My Vegas friend just wrote me to say Trump posted wearing a crown and dumping poo on protesters.

Sick joke, crass and nasty really, so low brow!

She gets herself overly worked up over politics.

I tried to tell her it has been going on for thousands of years and in this world, we can not stop evil; Anyone involved in politics has a few secrets they would rather stay hidden.

She needs to enjoy her so called golden years and not worry about such matters to the point she gets ill.

I heard with the US gov shut down, 42 million Americans may have the Nov food stamp payments cut off or suspended until the gov; reopens.

There are food stamp scammers out there but a large part of the population really does depend on that handout.

I think it is a test, might happen, might not. if it happens it could last a few days, weeks or even a month or so.

They need to gauge just how desperate people are and what they will do under pressure.

I talk big, not a huge hoarder of supplies but have told my US people to try and stock up a bit every time they shop; A can here and there, some dry goods etc.

Everyone should have at least a months supply around their home.

I do worry about my older sister, the only contribution halfie has is buying most of her own food with those stamps; Now the eldest is going to have to feed her too? Way too much pressure for her.

I keep trying to tell her to just drop her off at a shelter, let them handle her.

78 years old, she needs to enjoy life without so much stress. My husband says it is karma since neither had their own children.

I do not think that way, no one should expect children to care for them in old age unless the relationship is good and they are able and willing to help.

They have their own lives and why pressure them?

Not sure when the 3 kings will meet up here in the city, any day now.

In any case all those protests in the US will come to nothing, he still has over 3 more years in office and some people did vote for what is going on.

It is the poor who suffer the most, always has been that way.

Perhaps if you  go to a protest, you might want to wear a rubber suit, just in case OV gets any ideas from Trump! Talk about duck and cover!! When the SHTF!!

The latest stir is the White House and his Golden Ballroom.

Demolition crews on Monday began tearing down part of the White House to build President Donald Trump’s long-desired ballroom despite his pledge that construction of the $250 million addition wouldn’t “interfere” with the existing building.

I note that digger is a Volvo.  Sweden's finest.

His idea of interior design is faux French renaissance.  That just tells what his education and culture is.  He's an absolute master of kitsch.   I've been in a few places where that style is being used.  It's just such a cliche.
