This was my first application for unlimited work permit.

In renewal, ONYL residence Part is renewed. No need for work part renewal.

I am eligible to unlimitted SP as of 1St June.

I plan to apply for it for the security provides.

However, my curent SP expires on Oct 2.

Since, issuing takes about 3 to 4 months, I was wondering if d'urine the process, I should ask my employer to reniew my SP? Is it possible to run both in parallele?

  I was about the same situation. The work permit is issued very quickly. so you will be able to work. Residency  - I was lucky to get in time, but I believe it is possible to get and annex while waiting. Or you can write to ibz in September with a very polite question if they got your application and no more documents needed as you are worried about your work if SP expires - nothing else, no asking to proceed quicker. And you will be able to look at the progress via social security website - all your single permits applications are there  single-permit.socialsecurity.be

Hi,

You better apply on 1st of June yourself for indefinite work permit. Most likely you will receive it within 2 months if you are eligible. When your indefinite work permit is issued, your employer does not need to apply for an extension as it will be forwarded to IBZ for residency permit. If you do not receive your residency permit before Oct 2, your commune will issue a temp. annex. However, if you apply for indefinite work permit and not  get any response for 2 months, then you better ask you employer to apply for an extension.

I am currently holding a valid single permit till 2028 ... My company recently applied for Eu blue card as well for which I got the positive work decision today.

Now the question is .. Can i travel (outside EU) for 2-3 weeks while my application is in process while I hold a valid resident card? And what if a decision is made while I am abroad?

Hi,

you can travel as long as you are having a valid residency card at the moment you are traveling. Decision can be given while you are traveling, that is not a problem. when you are back, you will apply for your new ID card.

I have a question  please about the unlimited single permit. Is there a way to check if my request is send  to the  office of foreigners level or no ?

In my case In the tracking website it’s still marked as a work  permit received since the beginning of February.

Call l'office des étrangers.

Give your registration number and they will tell you

there are lots of delays at the moment , but if your current card is still valid and you have received your unlimited work permit , you're good and you have nothing to worry about.

I received mine last year in march and only changed my card in may , because I was travelling.

hi guys!

update from my side which will be helpful for those who were in similar situation .

i had A card expiring 26/03/2026.

and I have been living in Belgium for 5 years so on 06/02/2026 I applied for both renewal of my card ( unlimited market) + L card .

on 17/04/2026 I received from the commune news that I received L card !

so process took in the end 2 months and 10 days!

you can start working right away . As long as your current residency card is still valid of course.

Can one travel outside EU after having applied for renewal of the residency, given the current card doesn’t expire for a couple of months?

just an advice if you want to request this unlimited single permit in the future try to do it once the 4 years are fully visible in my carrier (with the completed data tag) if you do it sooner you will have to wait

And a question please I am currently abroad and will be back next months should I do something or it can wait  for the A Card ?

Hello...many times it may not be necessary to wait for my career website.

My 4 years completed on 3rd January 2025. I applied on 2nd January. And it was approved in 5 working days. Brussels region.

You can wait..just make sure that your card is valid on return date. Usually the A card is valid for 2 years for flanders..ie u apply after 4 years. But a card is valid till 6 years..so..its ok
