legal action for the cheating money

Post new topic

Muneer Ahmed96

I met a person through a OLX  in Oman for a work visa. He promised to give me a work visa for my wife and asked me 1500 OMR . Later he said that visa is refused by the ROP and I asked him to return the ,money he is denying to give. I have full proof of the payment which I transferred to his bank account. The man has refused to return the amount I gave him. Is there a legal recourse to recover my money from the individual?

Hi Muneer Ahmed96,

Transferring a tidy sum of R.O. 1,500/- to an otherwise unknown person you have met online, in the hopes of landing a job for your wife, equates to sharing your bank's OTP with a fraudster who will wipe your account clean within the next few minutes.

In both the cases, you can do nothing about it. You may complain, but what you have lost will remain lost.

As a rule of thumb, be aware that any job that demands payment of money upfront is a SCAM.

You can complain with ROP for cyber fraud with all proofs  and hope they will take action.

If the person you gave the money is based in Oman and you have sufficient proof, you are entitled to file a complaint to ROP within 3 months' time for cheating and there is very good chance you will be able to recover the money. In Oman, the case for cheating and the similar matters is dealth with very strictly.

You can personally report the matter to ROP or can take help of any lawyer. But plz remember the timeline is 3 months from the date of your knowledge about the cheating. ROP will not register the complaint if you approach them after 3 months' time period.

Hope this helps.
