I have seen in several posts that many landlords refuse to rent apartments to single men in Kuwait.
Is this true? Are there areas where this is more common?

depends on the building, and the landlord. its a general rule with many exceptions, you need to just ask around and it wont be apparent with an online search. best bet, whatsapp the landlords, altho you might run into a language barrier coz most might not speak english.
