Hi! Just joined the other day. :) American, originally from New York, living in the wilds of Kyushu, Japan. I've been here for 12 years and have been married to my DH (Japanese national) for 6 years. Will be here indefinitely! :D

Welcome Aurora :)

12 years in Japan, wow! You must speak the language don't you?

Take care,

Julien

Welcome aboard Aurora,

So tell us how is it to be a gaijin in Kyushu ? Same as everywhere else in Japan ?

Take care,

TC

Hi Julien and TC! Thanks for your replies. :)

Yes, I do speak Japanese (but had also majored in Japanese in university). There are not very many English speakers down here so it's kind of a necessity. :)

TC, being a foreigner in Kyushu is pretty much like anywhere else in Japan, I think, although I've only lived one other place than Kyushu. I also live in a relatively large city (for Kyushu anyway), so my experience might be a little different. Lots of staring anyway, in particular when I go out together with my husband. I guess you don't see many Caucasian women with Japanese men (as opposed to the other way around). :)

I wish I could speak an Asian language one day, should it be Japanese or Mandarin? What's the most useful language?

If you would move again, where would you go?

aurora94

Personally, I think Mandarin would be the language to go with, especially with the rise of the Chinese economy.

Hmm, if I would move again, I would probably be happy to go just about anywhere! :D

Julien

Can be interesting yes :)
