And another Hello from Athens!

Hi!

I'm Sascha, originally from Switzerland and now living in Athens, Greece. Two years ago I came to Greece, first I lived 6 months on the island of Limnos, then I moved to Athens to get a job.

In Athens I work as a programmer. I had been in Greece from 1986 to 1989, so I speak Greek good enough to work and enjoy life. My biggest quest is never to lose that feeling of living in a special place, chosen by myself - despite working every day and coming home tired sometimes.

My weblog ch-athens (at http://betabug.ch/blogs/ch-athens ) helps me in this, as it gets me focussed on what is exceptional and intensive about my life. I write in English mainly, but also in German and Greek, about Athens, Greece, computers, living in a big, changing city. I often try to write stuff that will help others who live here or come to visit this place, for example giving information about how public transport works here, or how one might get a connection to the Internet.

I found expat-blog.com through another blog that I read sometimes. I enjoyed reading the experiences of others who live "abroad", wherever that may be. Changing ones surroundings radically is always an interesting experience.

Welcome Betabug!

I'd love to live in Athens. Less snow, more history... :)
Do you think the life has changed in Athens since the Olympic Games 2004?

Cheers

Yeah, really, my flatmate was in Munich for a week and the temperature difference was dramatic. I'm definitely here for the climate too.

I wasn't in Athens during the Olympics, enjoyed village life on the island back then. From what I heard those two weeks were really special, with everything suddenly working and people behaving. I don't think Athens has changed very much since the summer of 2004, but it sure did change since 1989. It's now a place that can be pleasant for a short visit (like a weekend), with nice things like a traffic free zone all around the Acropolis and a much more lively city center. Back in the 80s it was "get out of Athens as fast as possible" for tourists. To live in this city one has to be positively a madman anyway, even today. :-)
