Well, I posted my first forum post yesterday, and I think my site has been in the directory for about a month, so I should probably finally tell you a bit about myself.  I am an American living and working in Mexico, specifically Guadalajara.  My wife (Megan) and I moved here in Nov. 2005.  We lived in Portland, OR, USA before moving to Guadalajara.

We moved to Mexico because we have always wanted to live abroad and we both have visited and enjoyed Mexico.  I work in technology and Guadalajara is regarded as the tech center of Mexico, so it seemed like a logical choice.  My wife is currently working as an English teacher and is also volunteering in social worker.  I am working in computer sales while seeking a more career oriented job in technology.

I started our blog about 5 years ago (wow, has it really been that long!) and now that we are abroad Megan has started contributing to the blog.  Of course, my writing tends to stray away from the expat life and experience into technology all the time, but Megan has been keeping her entries to strictly great stories about living in Guadalajara.

Thanks to Juilian for this great community!

Welcome Noah!

I hope you'll find a good job very soon :)

Do you speak Spanish? Is it required to speak Spanish to live in Mexico?

You've been blogging for 5 years! Wow that's very impressive :D

I look forward to read your stories (and I am almost sure I'll like your technology-related posts too)

Take care!

Yeah, I speak pretty good Spanish, but most of that has come from the last few months living/working here.  I would suggest taking a Spanish class for a couple months before coming. I did, and althogh I thought I hadn't learned much, it actually helped a lot.

The first 1 year or so was very low key, but now I try to post at least once per month (but I am failing to do that this month!).

Edit: I should mention that my wife does speak Spanish (at near fluency) and that, of course makes things a lot, lot easier.

We are in the same case noahb :)

my girlfriend is perfectly bilingual french/spanish, so it made life easier when we were in spain last year. Do you feel like "my spanish is crap" when you're with her? it happens to me all the time

So Guadalajara is the place for IT guys in Mexico ... very interesting ...

noahb

Yeah, I alway get that "my spanish is crap" feeling, but thankfully I am getting that feeling less when I am on my own.

Yes, I got the same problem, especially since my job is to speak french all day. So I can't really improve my skills. Bueno, pero the taxistas understand me (generally) ;-)
