At least one Expat.com member who signed up from Liberia recently has emailed me with an advanced fee scam. She tried to ask me to write her first and has also tried to break into my Hotmail account, according to Microsoft security.

Use the report button as soon as you can.
We don't want such people here, and that means they get dumped quickly.

If the “IRS" calls you overseas and demands $5,900 in back taxes -- upon threat of a warrant for your arrest -- you can tell them you’ll call them back.

The IRS does not attempt collections by calling on the phone.

On the other hand, don’t be too rude.  CBS News reported tonight that such a scammer, pretending to be the victim, called the local police to a phony alleged disturbance at the victim's house.

Several SWAT vehicles pulled up before the call was exposed to be a hoax.
