The most active blogs

Hey I have a proposal for a new feature for Julien et al:

I always explore for other expat and aidworker blogs. Either I write about them, or put them on my blogroll.

Two challenges:

1/ to find good blogs
2/ to keep the blogroll up to date.

Once every so often, I go on a discovery tour and surf through a chunk of blogs on the expat-blog directory, but it is time consuming to visit them one by one.

Two suggestions:

1/ have an RSS feed on expat-blog, showing the latest blog entries on all blogs. You know, all blogs mixed...

2/ A top 100 (or 50 or 20, or 10) list of the most active blogs in expat-blog (posts/month in the last month). Would not only be a nice internal competition (I know quality and quantity are two different things!), but would also facilitate people finding new and active blogs (When scouting through the different blogs on the expat-blog directory, I found many blogs hardly ever updated..), and to have an overview what people write about in the Expat.comosphere!

Can be done?

Peter.

I like that idea>  I too have been looking at blogs here and been disappointed by so many that are so infrequently updated....would it be possible to do that?  Some sort of signal for blogs that get an update regularily, even if it is about once a week?

Julien

Very good ideas indeed, thanks for the suggestions!

Our development calendar is (super) full for 2008, but I'll try to arrange something as soon as possible.

Please do not hesitate to share more ideas/suggestions, I really appreciate

Yep, Julien, I made a similar same remark there (in French).

RSS feed sounds awesome to me :)!!

And there seems to something screwed up in the member search (or I'm too stupid).
I was going to look for people with "Member" status, like the ones that seem to be active, without putting a name in or anything, just by status, and it just put me back to the main page, without searching or giving me the right results :(

Definitely a great idea - there's a proliferation of blogs out there on the www, most aren't updated regularly if at all, some aren't blogs in the first place (just commercial sites using blog software). The good thing about this directory is that it links to quality blogs, all that's missing is boosting the profile of those that are regularly updated...

I've not come across any other blog directories that do that so far...

Blogcatalog does.
But I'm not using it often & it has too many people just boosting their own sites and doing commercial stuff :(
