Hello,

Just wondering if there is anyone else here who has considered or is working as a paramedic at the KKIA. How have you found the transition from western culture to that of saudi? and your general experiences. Ive been offered 20,000 Sars including accommodation, travel car, 30 day holiday and flights home. Is this a worthy offer for a Registered Paramedic.

Dear Tommybear

Firstly single or with family? Any kids?

20,000 SAR is a good salary in Saudi and is probably equal (or a bit higher) than some of doctors from Asian/African countries.  However you need to compare it to what you get in the UK.I hope the accomodation (?family) and other benefits are extra to the 20k (£3.1k). Do you have kids. If so make sure education allowance is included (as extra) Or else it may not be worth relocating.

But work will be much relaxed. No more drunken fights or queing outside A&E etc,.. but unbelievable amount of car accidents.

As a westerner, no one will hassle you. However, alcohol is STRICTLY forbidden, so no evenings in the (non-existent) pub... not even a drop. You are not allowed to get your own from UK even for personal consumption (unlike Dubai/Bahrain etc)

All that means you will discover many things to do when you are sober (but may not be easily accessible)

please can u book me up or give the link I am a paramedic and wishing to relocate to Saudi if given a good offer and also my wife is a nurse. any assistance would be highly appreciated

aqeeldoc- Ive no kids, wife or dependents, the company are covering everything i guess apart from food and bills i imagine. luckily I'm unfortunately in the position where I'm allergic to alcohol, so for me the drink isn't a problem, however where do people socialise when they don't have pubs and clubs to go to?

coolprossy- the company i found the job through are uk based, however you're in luck as i have found another contact. hope this helps.

Tommybear: In that case, you will find it difficult to spend more than 5-6000 SAR per month for a luxurious life unless you start living in a designer-brand world.
There are various ways to socialise. That wont be a problem at all. As you can imagine, the Saudis are VERY relaxed people. So they socialise more than they work. Apart from the usual, you can consider this current Saudi craze....

I think the offer is very good. about £2000 in your pocket every month. Within a few years you will be buying a house in the UK in cash,

escapedkkia

It was 24000 SAR in 1989-90 which was more than double my NHS pay, but it was not worth it. They will show you the village but house you in the huts. Square blocks south of the village which were built to house the workers who built the airport. Our company always paid late and airport security would try and confiscate it. 20000 SAR is about £3500. Calling home is extortionate £6/min. I ended up with a phone bill of 400 per month. The chief paramedic went on leave and never came back as they hold your passport and have to apply for an exit visa if they want they can keep you there until your replaced. 6 months in my case and no the embassy cant help.
if you hold HPC registration stay in the UK.
No bacon, bibles, pictures of women showing anything other than head and hands. They destroyed a wedding photo album sensoring it. Alcohol is illegal but everyone is drunk all the time they are not working.
