We were scuba diving in Roatan Honduras and I proposed at Mary's site 45 feet under water. Wrote on my dive slate "will you marry me" she grabbed the slate from me and wrote "maybe".  The rest is history.

:D  I totally forgot for a moment that you, as an East Indian, could be married by parents.
Does the bride get an engagement or wedding ring in such situations?

Primadonna

The bride get  a dowry in the form of gold (jewelery, coins) so the bride can use it as personal investment, safe it for bitter or poor times.

So yes: an engagement or wedding ring (or both if the groom is wealthy)

Hello Primadoona, :)

I find it strange how Earthians (parents and guests of the newly weds) put assets in a wedding but they do not ask their money back at divorce time.
It seems proposing is the way to go and divorces only encourages it.

stumpy

I paid a bride price for my Lao wife which was given back to me after we were married.

I am against the dowry system so i have not taken and in India its a nonconziable and noncompoundable offence...so no bail and direct arrest...
