This is a great city.  I'm just taking some time out here right now and enjoying life.
What's not to like about a meal of delicious steak frites & excellent wine that costs about USD$10.  But there's so much more here to discover.  Check the blog for more!

Saludos

Bienvenido quickroute!

Why did you move to BA? not only for steak frites, didn't you?

All the best,

Julien

Well my wife is from here so that had a little bit of influence!
but alas the $ exchange rate also had a lot to do with it.  I simply couldn't have afforded to take a year off and stay in Europe or USA.

Good reasons to move ;)

I've never been in BA but I hope I'll spend a few months there one day. What do you like the most in this city?

quickroute

The best things about the city are

1. the Food and Wine (the quality is better than many European/US cities)
2. the nightlife (later and livelier than any Latin American city)
3. the look and feel of the architecture (rivals Paris)
4. the people (very vibrant and friendly, similar to Madrid, Barcelona or Rome)
5. the public transport links are excellent and taxis are cheap

Cheers, Enda

How complicated is it to find a job in BA? Is there any big/famous employment website?

quickroute

I haven't tried to find work yet as the whole point of moving here was to have a sebatical year.  I'm far from fluent in Spanish right now, and that is a major handicap for anybody looking for work.  Technically you should have a visa to work and that can be a bit complicated as some Visas require translated and notarised police records from your home country.

Although the cost of living is low for expats, so is the pay unless you're on a expat package and getting paid in pounds, euros or dollars.  My wife who is from here, has a Masters in teaching English from New York along with 5 yeas work experience in the USA and UK and was being offered the same money as someone with no teaching qualifications and no experience i.e. 17 pesos per hour = US$5.50 - not a lot!

There's no big website for jobs that I'm aware of but there are a few smaller expat sites that have details on jobs, accomodation, visas and other helpful info.  These are listed on my blog under 'Links to useful Information on Buenos Aires'

Cheers,
