Hey all.

I spent a couple years teaching English in Prague, followed a girl to Chicago, and now hope to follow that same girl back to Germany (where she's hoping to get a job). She's all set. If she gets it we'll move. The problem is me.

It's easy to teach English in the CZ, but since we may be moving to a small, touristy town in Germany, the demand won't be there because a) most will likely already speak English, and b) there's not a whole lot of folks to begin with.

I'm extremely open-minded as far as working goes. I'll do anything to make it work. But even with a lengthy corporate background and international living experience, am I kidding myself about job prospects without EU citizenship or a work visa?

Thanks for any and all advice.

Julien

Welcome Bohemka!

Can you please clarify ... Are you from the US?

You should never consider yourself as "a problem", your case is quite common in expat couples ;)

I am sure you've got other skills don't you?

Bohemka

Hi Julien. Thanks.

Yes, from the US. I'm sure it's common, but finding employment these days seems tougher than I remember... and since there's an extra hurdle due to my citizenship (or lack of EU citizenship), I'm nervous.

Weird for me to say, but I'm trying to think responsibly before we dive into this.

Have you checked the German embassy in the US and the US embassy in Germany?

The first one will give you more info about how to get a visa to Europe, and the second one can help you to find US companies in Germany... You should also have a look to the Expat.coms in Germany you will find a lot of useful info there :)

All my wishes of success

Bohemka

Thanks a lot, Julien.
