Hi everyone,

I sent my passport to be renewed via the Mauritian embassy in Washington,DC, one month ago. I called them today to get an update, and I was told by a very cheery employee, that the passport has been sent to Mauritius and that it will take between three to six months! I was floored!!!

Does anyone know how to get this expedite?

Thanks.

Can you contact the passport office in Mauritius? They might give you a valid explanation as to why this is taking so long.

Hi Devi,

My husband renewed his passport last year.It took him 3-4 weeks.I think it is better if you yourself go down to the embassy to see what is going on !

FWIW: Unfortunately travelling from California to DC is not that easy .

If there are documents missing it may take them longer - please ensure that you did include all the required documents  and the only way to expedite things is to keep "bugging" them on the phone at the Embassy . It is a "laisser aller" attitude on both sides : in DC  and the passport office in Mauritius

@ Alisa_ram, I've sent an email to the contact posted on the portal, no answer yet!

@ Disha, like External said, California to DC, not too easy!

@ External, I've sent all the docs required, I was advised by the embassy to include my contact so they can get in touch with me in case there were documents missing...When I called a month later, I was told the passport is already in MRU, so I assume they were satisfied with everything...I called again today and was told to email the consul to explain my predicament! Oh and I was also told, that I should have renewed it in MRU! Well I'm in San Francisco! I guess I should have done a trip just for that purpose!!!
External you are right about the "laisse aller" attitude, but come on, this is serious business!
I'm down to crossing my fingers and hoping for the best!

Have a great week end all and see you soon.
