Never realising, that when you leave your own cultural background, that everything can change for you.
Racism isn't something that you can dream about when moving to another english speaking country like australia.
It is called "POMMIE BASHING" with the necessary swear words attached.!!!
i.e.{un-married mother's offspring}
Your descendants, can be offensive too, with the Accent-differences.!!!
Still doesn't & never will, feel like HOME.
If Only we could raise the necessary funds, we would be re-turning to our Native Soil.
There are many other's who can identify with our statements, according to some 'other' Forums on the Net.

Unfortunately racism is "part of the expat package"

If Only we could raise the necessary funds, we would be re-turning to our Native Soil.

Do you mean you're stuck abroad? :/

Its the same in countries that don't speak the language but having now lived abroad for a while I have thick skin (thinner blood but thicker skin). You learn to live with it I guess. Like everything if you let it get to you then your way of life is not as good.

We never get use to it. But I've always moved around. And being Mixed and from multicultural background I "expect" to be prejudiced over at some stage. We learn how to defend ourselves or how to protect ourselves.
It comes. I'm 24, lived 16 years out of Angola, I've learned the hard way. Principally in Portugal!

Loneliness....I didn't realise until someone pointed out that was how I was feeling. It creeps over you slowly. At  a party and met a couple of Brits that had been here for 4 years, they told me the downs were a normal part of being an expat and they would pass and that I'd experience great ups too. I stuck to  them all evening , listening to their accents was therapy enough !
Racism...well I did choose to live a neighbourhood that is culturally different to my own. I think i get it because they are usually on the receiving end. I'm going to improve my spoken Spanish and learn a few clever come backs!!

yes, loneliness is the feeling to creeping on me as i'm now in Sydney. I was just relocated from HK to Sydney office 1 month ago  (for a 6-month-assignment)... not easy to adapt to an English Environment especially in Australia. Hard to make friends with local colleagues, i'm not sure if it is the cultural difference or what.. or Racism?

I guess Expats in other Asia countries, like HK or China are feeling more welcomed as the local colleauges are always willing to show you around or giving a helpful hand... but not here for Sydney locals...

I am planning to join some local tours to explore Sydney more... after all this is a beautiful city.. but just not as excited as in HK... it's also a good experience to work abroad... now I'm looking forward for my home leave back to HK in May...
