Hi All I bought an apartment in Pereybere and would like to now apply for Citizenship.

Any idea what the process is please

I live in S.A and spend time traveling to Mauritius.

We love the island and plan to gain citizenship

Help please as even the embassy didn't explain well

Citizenship can be acquired either by birthright or

as a Commonwealth citizen:  after residing and living for 5 years on the island.


If  you were born on the island and then moved to SA, you can apply through Jus Soli so long you didn't renounce it,  had you been naturalized as a  South African on your move there .


If one of your birth parents was born on the island you can apply  through Jus Sanguinis ( by descent)


BTW: Buying real estate gives you residency  as per  https://www.propertycloud.mu/blog/how-t … investment but  not  citizenship  unless you are an investor ( a big one )  or you have some good vitamin C  ( aka good connections with the sitting government  no matter which one it is) since it is the prerogative of the sitting PM.
