Can't you make a forum signature depending on how many posts somebody has or that s/he belongs to a certain group (based on their reputation)? My experience is that people prefer to have the possibility to add a signature, for example to promote their blogs, web sites. There are many possibilities to reduce the signature spam, i.e. limiting the number of characters, not allowing images in signatures, limiting the number of links in signatures etc etc. SY
