Today's Weather
Update:
We're seeing signs of "improvement".
It's now 5C, the snow is melting, but of course, it's really wet, slight breeze from N, 1.7 m/s, raining a bit 0.5mm since midnight. Sunset 16.41h
Now the big news:
Snowdrops! We've got these in our garden and they're now out! And we're seeing shoots from the daffodils as well. Tulips will be next. The snowdrops must have been below the snow, getting ready.
4C and we have heavy rain now and more forecast for the whole morning/afternoon, clearing this evening. I just took my grandson to school, had to get my old Barbour jacket out, I've had that over 30 years and it still does the job.

Nowt wrong with old stuff that does the job.
We walked the dog yesterday. I was telling Mrs Fluffy my walking boots are 30 years old. They've had new laces and I've sprayed them more than a couple of times with waterproofing. I've got a Berghaus coat and that's 25 years old. The zippable liner (fleece) I got glue on from construction work so that's not for best, more DIY now and car repairs. I use these old items when walking the doggy as we can get muddy.
It's 6C today, very sunny, wind quite high, 3.5 m/s from WSW, Sunset 16.42. The snow is disappearing fast. Yay! It might be gone in a couple of days.
Big question today is if the bin men turn up. Will they? Won't they? They changed the collection day and now everyone in the street is baffled as to when the new timetable takes effect. That's the one thing they didn't tell us. Tomorrow it's Xmas tree collection. How exciting! We're all on edge over it and it's filling our empty and meaningless lives slumming here in Hungary.
It's cold and wet here; I froze my butt off disconnecting our car this morning, but happy wife, happy life. Now home alone for the next 8 hours, I wonder what mischief I can get up to, once I've tidied up, un packed the dishwasher, hoovered, dusted, play with Boris.

If I am alone I usually end up nodding off in front of my laptop and time wasting.
There's always tidying up here. Put the rubbish out, hoover, collect all the teenage glasses half full and half noshed food.
There's always reorganising. Of course reorganising shows failure of past attempts at organisation. We've got a lot of storage boxes to store things we don't know we need. When we decide we're going to dispose of those objects, we find ourselves with empty storage boxes, we find we have to store. We've been in this house 10 years and we're still working on organising it. I asked my bro about it and he said he's still reorganising after 20+ years.
There's no hope.
We think it's doggy time but it's drizzling. Do we go or not? I think maybe we do. It's 1.7mm since midnight, 3C and sunset at 16.47h.
Good news is we are nearly over January. Bad news is I have to go long haul to work this evening. But where I am going is a lot warmer, 22C during the day but only about 6C at night. So the usual question, what to wear? It's difficult and I have a luggage allowance which is not enough for winter clothes for evening and summer clothes in the day. Oh dear!
Update:
The snow in the forest is now given way to ice on top of the snow. It's slow melting in the forest. In the valley, it's 3C but on the hills and in the forest, it's 1.5C.
It's extremely hazardous walking. I'm using Nordic walking sticks and I really needed them. Extra legs. Made me think Jake the Peg. Tiddle-iddle-diddle-dum.
So Mrs F and I cut it short and came back after only 30 minutes. We only managed to do about a mile. It's about 1/3 slower than normal due to the treacherous conditions.
Gawd, getting tired of this weather, keep on getting the odd day of snow. It supposedly came down heavily through the night, not checked yet as its still dark. The temperature is also up and down. Its been as high of13°C. BUT this Sunday it will be -9°C.

Yes, same back at the ranch. I get pictures of my car covered in snow. The thing is that it can only get better. We're only a week away from March and it should get better really fast. We've had the snow drops but the daffs are a bit slow. Once we see the daffs, it's all systems go for Spring.
The airport in Vienna was closed, and the roads were closed. Trains all over the place, it took me 2 hours to get to Vienna, normally it takes 50 mins.
It's going to be -9°C on Sunday and then on Monday it will 10°C, and then on Wednesday it will be 16°C.

Our lad has gone skiing near Wien. I heard there were avalanches further West. I hope none in Lower Austria.
HU:
Pretty good weather but clouding up now. It's 11C at 14.20h. The daffs are out in the garden. Rain was forecast but nothing. I am happy about it as I had a few things to do outside. Tomorrow should be much warmer.
I think probably I'll take the car for a wash later this arvo if I can get enough enthusiasm. If I do that, it's guaranteed to rain.
At least the days are longer - sunrise was 05.56h and sunset is 17.55h today. Bit of breeze, 1.3 m/s from ENE.
Having been away so long, it takes me days if not a week or more to get back in the swing of Fluffy Towers.
I have to go to Obi or Auchan to buy some light bulbs. Some of our lamps are not LED yet. As the bulbs go, we replace them. I really do not like Obi but I've got a half used gift card I got for Xmas. Useless anywhere else.
16C here at the moment, forecast for the rest of the week is similar - I think we can safely say that Spring is here. Currently having the driveway repaired; it's been in pretty poor condition since we moved in, just one of those things that we never got around to, they've taken up all the old concrete, and we're replacing it with brick/cobbles and flags on the pathways.
Solar is doing well, batteries are fully charged, and I've also sold 6 kWh to the electric company; be interesting to see the numbers at the end of the day. Car will need a top-up tomorrow, normally costs in the region of £7 for a 60% boost - I only fill them to 80% to extend the life of the batteries.

Temperatures are going down to 5-6C overnight. I brought some logs inside just in case. We don't really need the central heating any more as the house heats up a lot during the day and we have very super duper insulation. And we just have so many logs available, might as well burn them if we need a minor boost. Tomorrow will be 15C and the sunshine will be back. These are what we call the "shoulder time". By probably April, the heating will be off until October at the earliest.
We have an all brick driveway. I made them put a slight angle on it so the water drains away to the road. They actually managed to do that quite well. We sometimes get torrential storms and it needs to run off away from the house. I think the builders thought we were fussy but so many people get damp here and water getting in the foundations is a total paranoia I suffer from.
Sounds cheap enough to charge up but when I was on my travels in Asia just a few weeks ago, there were many electric vehicles, mainly taxis made by Tata. The drivers told me they do 220km on a charge, but they cannot get down below about 80km range before it gets dodgy. Strangely enough every taxi I went in seemed to have 177km range left. I also went in a BYD vehicle and I have to say it was very nice. I think it was an Atto model. Maybe 300-400km range for a $2 charge (yes, $2). I had a short ride in some weird vehicle called a iCAR V23 or something - like a 4WD but all electric. Of course here, all these vehicles are more or less unaffordable for the average joe unless company cars or on leases. Far too much tax.
Today:
Nice day today - should be sunny and 16C. Daffs are out.
Best to make the most of it, rain is predicted for Thursday and most of the weekend. That's going to screw my enthusiastic tidying up.
I was thinking of mowing the grass. That'll make it rain. Also washing the car causes the heavens to open.
Sunset 18.04h (sunrise was 05.44h). 40% humidity. Pressure relatively high. Clouds showing. Waxing moon (I think).
Cold for the next few days; even muttering about snow further north/west; max today 9C, dropping to 1C overnight; then it looks like spring temps will arrive.
Driveway and garden are done and we're very happy with the result. Just a few bits left that we can do ourselves.
Our Elroq will do 220 miles (350 km) on an 80% charge, which translates into us charging it twice a week at home. We got last months power bill yesterday, for the first time ever we paid nothing for electricity and even got paid £19 back for the solar credit (our surplus that we sell back to the energy company); this included charging our EV over the month.

It's quite nice here. So nice, I hoovered the lawn. Ok, I didn't hoover it, I mowed it. I cleaned up some bushes and I brushed the paths a bit. Mrs F said she saw Tulips in her Mum's garden. I cannot see them in ours.
We've got almost 16C but we're expecting heavy rain tomorrow and over the weekend so inside work only. Sunset is 18.07h.
We're wasting all the gloriously inexpensive light and sunshine on our non-existent solar panels.
350km is quite good. We've got a diesel car which is out of action. Scanner says it has a faulty EGR (Exhaust Gas Recirculation) valve. A new one is on the way but it'll take a week as it's coming from Germany or Poland.
I said to Mrs F perhaps we should think about going electric for small distances in city or urban environments. We don't want some fancy expensive brand so I was looking at a Dacia Spring.
92F , dry with zero chance of rain.
More on that later! - @Marilyn Tassy
Lucky you! That's about 37C.
I just had car parts delivered and yup, it's starting to rain. So that's a job for tomorrow maybe. If the weather could hold off for a few hours, I could get the job done.
Currently 10C with wind from the East. Feels a lot colder than 10C. No sunshine. Sunset 18.09h.
Unbelieveable a swap to summer time early this morning has done nothing useful for outside work.
My car repairs and some electrical repairs on my outside lights are completely stalled. It's too cold to hold the tools. What a nuisance.
It's only 7C and there's a fair wind from NW, so we're at 5.6C with chill factor. It was raining most of the night too so that's not helping.
I think only 1st April before outside work can be considered. Then we'll be back up to 13C according to forecasts.
It's still chilly, forecast for today reckons 8C, climbing to 11C later and cloudy. I've been reading about how this affects how I feel the effects of extreme weather, pretty depressing, just one of the joys of getting older and the number of pockets in my cardigan becomes one of the key facts of choosing what to wear today.
Relating to how this has effected my Solar performance, I'm currently getting 1213 W through my system, but using 2847 (washing machine and tumble dryer both running), so the shortfall is coming from my batteries. I could achieve some savings there if my washing machine had a delayed start function, so I shall be looking for that feature when our current model gives up the ghost. Talking of which, it's now 14 years old and still going strong, there is some truth in the story that you get what you pay for.
No rain is forecast for today which is good news as my Grandson is on a school Easter holiday planned trip, they have a Forest Day, and he's been nominated as a carer/guide for a younger lad - they grow so quickly.

It's only 5C here with gusts of wind pushing it down on chill factor to 1.5C. Sunset is 19.14h today now the clocks have changed. Forecast says we'll be up to 21C in a week. I looked at the radar and it's blanket rain right across the top of us.
Do you have patches on your cardigan elbows? And furry slippers with a check pattern on them?
All our white goods (not the fridge/freezer) have delayed start. I actually never thought I could use it for power management. D'oh! I just thought it useful to have the programmes finish by the time we came back. But then again, I am not even sure our stuff operates on the overnight meter.
No sign of grandchildren from my numerous offspring. I hope I survive long enough to see some but my two eldest kids are not that far away from being 40. If they plan on sprogs, they need to get on with it asap. My younger two kids might save the day or my name. No pressure of course.
Easter next week so we'll have to go to the shops as they will be closed Friday and Monday.
Easter already?
I was wondering why the big ol wood cowboy in the lobby had bunny ears on!
Another hot one here, might as well enjoy it while I can;
Driving around blasting the car A/C is very much a change for me.
Soon enough will be back to cold spring in HU.
I will have stories, about the weather and then some!

Yes, it's almost upon us. April looks like a busy month.
You'd think it was officially winter still here. It's absolutely freezing cold with high winds. The longer days is the only obvious thing that changed.
It's pretty frustrating. I had big plans.
Everything is stopped by the weather - no car repairs, no gardening, no electrical improvements, no shed cleaning or junk removal. I arranged my neighbour to have our scrap wood. I was going to chop it up with the chainsaw and throw it into his garden. He'll use it for firewood - not as fussy as we are over wood sources.
I am not sure there's enough to do inside the house. Nothing important anyway.
We had thought about doing a day visit to Balaton, check the water, holiday house, have kebabs for lunch at Mustafa's in Siofok, but no way we're doing that in this weather. Dreadful.
Lovely day here, temps around 12C and plenty of sunshine.
At the weekend, we could be up to 18C and beyond.
This means outside work could restart once again. Oy Vay, Carumba.
Sunset 19.18h, sunrise was 06.24h, pressure steady, wind from NW, 1.5m/s with gusts.
Easter is upon us - Friday 8 April Good Friday Holiday, Sunday 5 April Easter Sunday, Monday 6 April Easter Monday. Shops closed.
If the weather continues, it will be busy out in the forests, down at Balaton etc.
Welcome to Good Friday 3 April 2026 - and what's Good about it?
Well, it's 15C, sun is shining, steady breeze 3 m/s from NNE, sunset 19.19h (sunrise 06.22h).
Today is a day to chill out, relax and just do whatever takes your fancy. Be a shame to waste the opportunity asleep on the couch.
We're considering taking the pooch for a perambulation. But where? Need to avoid the crowds. Bit of sun and a public holiday and the usual places are swamped.
Mrs F is preparing some salmon - fish for Good Friday. Fish is good anytime, especially fish pie. Yum!
Shops open again for tomorrow, then closed for 2 days until Tuesday 7 April.
Windy here; weather warning told us to close all our windows! Popped out shopping for the weekend stuff, it’s our twin’s birthday, so have to find something suitable.

Nah, boy and girl, born 9 minutes apart, midwife was panicking! BMH Munster, now no more.

Oh, good on their birth certificates. Unique.
Get a blue one and a pink one - whatever it is.
HU:
It's 12 lunchtime and the weather is super good. Brilliant sunshine but some clouds around. We're almost at 18C and it's really warm, there's a 1.1 m/s wind from SSW, humidity 55%
This Easter Sunday is a day to be out and about and enjoying fresh air. I was gardening yesterday and Mrs Fluffy has said she's going out to do some more. I pay a price for gardening with my bad back but I'm going outside too. I'll be an observer.
Pooch perambulations after lunch methinks.
Sunset is at 19.22h.
Just as an aside, I happened to look at Dinge Dong - the winning Dutch entry for Eurovision in 1975. They don't make them like that any more (thank god?!).

Still windy here, but it should clear up tomorrow, then a week of improved weather.
The Dutch have withdrawn from this year's Song Festival; apparently it is no longer in line with the public values.

I suppose Eurovision withdrawal is over Israel and what not.
Bit of a shame but then again, makes one wonder why Australia was in it.
Russia hasn't appeared for some years which is fair enough.
Eurovision is one of those things that comes around like The Boat Race and the Grand National.
Dutch broadcaster AVROTROS has officially withdrawn from the 2026 Eurovision Song Contest, citing concerns over "non-negotiable values" regarding humanity and press freedom, as well as political interference linked to Israel's participation. This decision, which followed Israel's inclusion in the competition, aligns with withdrawals from Ireland, Spain, and Slovenia.

Not surprised. Shame really as NL usually has a chance. Slovenia, meh. Ireland and Spain, dunno.
We've been done! We were promised sunny weather, no rain and 14C.
We've got the 14C but huge black clouds and gusty winds with slight chill factor.
I was going to chainsaw some scrap wood but I think that's out of the question - public holiday and threats of rain.
The moment I start chainsawing, the rain will begin.
Meanwhile, sunset 19.23h, humidity 57%, pressure steady.
We had 21°C yesterday and clouds, around 10pm the heavens opened. Today its dropped to 14°C but they say it won't rain.
Sun's out, they're forecasting 17C later this afternoon. No wind in the forecast, thank goodness, we were attacked by flying greenhouses a few nights ago, apparently.
Just back from a long walk with Boris, well, he walked, I was on my mobility scooter; makes me smile when he jumps up on the running board for a lift. Mrs C calls us the intrepid explorers.

Boris knows which side of his bread is buttered. Jumping on the running board indeed.
Usually people get bombed by trampolines. Apparently - in some places - they are big hazard on railway lines.
It's become very windy - seen 8 m/s but the sun is out and all the dark clouds have dispersed. It's creeping up to 17C.
I've been outside, put new wheels on my 4-wheel garden trolley (tyres had gone flat, punctured and cracked but I have spares). Took 15m to do that.
I also put some scrap metal way. I have quite a lot of scrap metal I can use to fashion, weld and jiggle things I might need. It's mainly old metal fencing. I've had my bench leg extensions ready for a year. It's too low so I'm going to increase height by 10cm. I've just got to weld them on. And I was making another firewood storage unit which was stalled since last year. I've made a bit of it. I've cut the tubes, I've just got to bend them. Yet more things to do, most of it being of my own design.
The Woofmeisterin (dog) will probably get a walk today. It got too late yesterday. She'll be happy to do some walkies.
