Today's Weather
Overcast 11C here; forecasting rain for later on. Family arriving from Germany later today; will have to blame them for bringing the weather with them. - @Cynic
Yup, it's still their fault. EVen now, yes it was them.
Strangely enough I was watching a 1940s news reel ("Wochenschau") from Germany about Operation Barbarossa (Hitler's invasion of the Soviet Union). The Hungarians were up there doing it with the Germans. They were front and centre with Adolf. This is much conveniently overlooked by the locals. It was never taught that Hitler and Stalin were in a pact that Hitler reneged on. Mrs F denied ever knowing about it. Influence of the Russians on education hereabouts way back then.
If anything goes wrong here, I usually jest that there's a hidden plot coordinated by my former Austrian neighbour (Wolfgang) from long ago. He kept my electric drill and I really had to ask for it back and he dragged his feet. Or it could be the ghost of the old Hungarian guy (Horvath) cum nutter who used to live in this house. In fact, Horvath died in this very room I'm typing this from. It might seem creepy but I'm not that bothered by those things.
Horvath means "Croatian person" in Hungarian. So it's probably their fault as well.
Its warming up..... 30°C over the next few days, then will be cooler on Sunday with some showers.
Currently, 15C, forecasting 21C, with a current AQI of 1.

I was looking over the other side of the Pennines and it's mid-20s around Preston. I have family connections in Preston and previously in Blackpool. Unusual to get any really sunny weather there for any length of time. Just wait a few hours and it'll be raining soon enough. One thing I notice is that it's very green there. All that rain does some good.
Meanwhile, 23C at 12h at HU Fluffy Towers and we're expecting up to late-20s or even possibly 30C over this 4 day holiday period.
Looked at Balaton water temperatures and it's like 21C which is nice but no way good enough for swimming. I have a 1.5mm "shorty" wet suit I wear in there and there's no way it'll be any good at that temperature. It's far too thin. I have been thinking of getting a thicker one as even 1.5mm is too thin for prolonged exposure (>1h). We might be able to get some paddling in.
Meanwhile, I repaired (I hope) my hobby car.
Very strangely I had exactly the gearbox piece I needed, brand new, unused in a packet. Just the right bit for that 28 year old car. How odd. It was like the gearbox gods were smiling upon me. I got absolutely soaked in auto gearbox oil (it tastes like soap) and it was baking hot in the blazing sun too too!
It least 25C.
I'm absolutely out of energy. I'm getting too old to clamber about under a car. Too hot now to do anything. We'll have to do a dusk dog walk because it'll be brutal out there.
We're expected massive downpours. Hot weather always ends in a thunderstorm.
We are on the way to Balaton and it's blazing hot. Airco on full power. I think it could top 30C. Not a cloud in the sky. Better make the most of it as rain is forecast next week.

IDK, our car is also 28 years old. We heard they will force cars over 10 years old to get a safety check every year!
Not sure if it is just a proposal or fact.
The whatever, green new deal BS with the EU.
In the states you need to pass a smog check every 2 years. If you fail, it really means your car is screwed. It is such an easy test to pass, anyone who fails has a real junker. The US has a ton of issues but these little things still let you know there is a small window of freedom still left in the USA.
Basically, they just want to give business the the smog check companies and get a small state fee every 2 years to allow you to use their free highways.
Yes, the US has tolls on some highways and bridges but overall it is free to drive from Ca; to Maine.
The weather is nice today, I am staying in today, had enough adventure yesterday!
I suppose having a old brick building somewhat keeps the temp just right;I am not hot or cold.
Like Goldilocks, everything is just right.
We've been paddling in Balaton and it was a little fresh but swimming would be possible. It's too cold for me but some hardy souls were swimming and little kids hardly seem to feel the cold while burning off their energy.
We've also had tejfol and sajtos (sour cream and cheesey) langos and ice cream. It's hard work but someone has to do it.
It was 26C showing on the car. I can see haze and clouds coming from the North. By Monday it'll be deserted and only 18C.
Change of weather, instead of Sunday it decided to rain today. It didn't last long, had some thunder but it at least cleaned the air as it had become somewhat.....

We've just arrived back from our brief encounter with Balaton lake.
The car reported 30C.
It was pretty busy on the roads and slow going around Szekesfehervar, not least because they decided to do roadworks on a busy and hot weekend.
Rain expected by Monday.
Currently, 7C, with a forecast high of 11C. I wore shorts when I took Boris out this morning, when I got back, it was back into jogging trousers (not that I've done any jogging for a few years now).
Temps for the rest of the week look a bit better, but we could do with some rain.

Quite low temperatures there. We're at 19C. Slight breeze.
We had a brief bit of rain and it's very cloudy suddenly, after days of brilliant sunshine and high temperatures.
I had to dash outside to bring in the blinking cupboard I'd been painting. I hadn't done the second coat. Screwed again by the weather Gods.
I get the wearing of jogging and sports gear while never doing any jogging. It's a way of life here at Fluffy Towers. The use of Lyrca based clothing is fairly common. We have bikes and it's essential for that.

The weather gods must have heard me, it's raining. Having done lots of jobs in the garden for Mrs C this morning (I must have earned maximum Brownie points for our summer garden), I'm now bloody freezing, enough that I've put the heating back on; I'm looking forward to getting my solar panels fitted; we ordered the new car (Elroq) yesterday; we're being very environmentally friendly.

Yes, bit on and off with the rain here. I was checking the oil in the hobby car gearbox and you didn't know if you needed a raincoat or not. One minute drizzle, next minute a sauna. I still don't know what to do with the Fluffymeisterin (doggy) - it's walkies time but I don't want to get soaked.
I like your new car. I've actually got an older Skoda for my UK car as well as other types here in HU. The Skoda drives just like a VW but it's much cheaper. I like it to drive for sure and Skoda is popular here - two of my siblings have them. One of them swapped an older VW for a Skoda on trade in. Both of theirs are fossil fuel. 33K EUR is a lot more than we paid for our new car back in about 2020. But it's a petrol car and was to clear out older but still new inventory. I was impressed with the over 500km battery range claim but I wonder how it'd work here under tough conditions. We can get really cold winters (-20C) and snow so the battery output will be hit with heating etc. And we'd need 4WD so that's more weight. We'd have to see what the price is come release of the higher end 85 model. We do need to trade one of our cars as it's getting a bit old.
The solar panels are a good idea - charge the car and it's free fuel. I've been seriously considering the solar panels for so long, the technology has moved on. Used to be 200W a panel optimally but now it's like 500W a panel for the same price. Trumpist policies could mean panels are even cheaper now as capacity will exceed demand.
I'd have to put the panels on my brick built outbuilding cum shed and on the side of my house, possibly with motion actuators to follow the sun. I reckon I can get 6 to 8 panels on the side of the house and maybe 6 panels on my shed. We'll need the battery backup/charging system too. Unfortunately, we'll have to rebuild the shed first as it needs a new roof (it's asbestos at the moment with really crappy old bodged wood beams - won't support panels and new tiling). It's going to be a longer and wider project. I will have to consider buying a shipping container type building to store all the shed crap while the shed is being rebuilt.
BTW, I've read recently there's an illegal hack on some solar systems to modify the grid supply system which enables higher payments to be claimed from the electricity operator. I think it allows the solar installation to ignore or change the set feed in tariffs signals used by most grid operators. I haven't found the details but be interesting to know how it works. It may have had some relation to the Spain/Portugal power issues.
Rubbish weather!
11C and over 3mm of rain since midnight.
It's brightening up but how long it'll last I don't know.
Looks a bit too muddy for dog walking
Probably be a week before we get out of this dip in temperatures.
10C and mostly cloudy; Forecasting no rain for the next 2 hours; think they need to look out of my office window, you would have thought with Weather Radar and AI created weather forecasting they could get that little bit right eh?

You're right! Yesterday, weather sites were saying like 25C here and it was never past 18C.
I like to look directly at the radar to see where the clouds and so on are. I looked on the webcams for Hungary and higher elevations are shrouded in wet clouds. I can see a large hill from here with a large look out tower on it, elevation about 530m AMSL and it's covered in fog. It's only about 1 mile away. Instrument landings only I expect.
You can check it out radar directly here: OMSZ (mostly in English but fundamentally all you need is the radar picture).

I often wonder if I would have got away with these standards of weather forecasting back when I had to do it for visiting aircrew.
10°C here and it's been raining on and off since yesterday. A bit shitty as was in a middle of a job in the garden.

There's no way I can get a dog walk in. I'm going to be soaked if I venture out. And the dog will stink for several days.
Dreadful weather continues. It's only 10C and raining.
This is not what we're used to in May.
We're expecting sunny and warm weather.
Poor old doggy is not getting her walks in. It'll be muddy on the usual routes.
Forecasts suggest 2 weeks more of this.
11°C here and rising to 16°C, best part there is no rain. I just hope the ground will dry out as I'm cutting back some overgrown border's. I will do that in the afternoon by then things should have dried out a bit.

That's a good point. We've got to spray our fruit trees and we cannot do it in the rain. The peach tree has a fungus. Don't ask me which one. Leaves are all curled up. Mrs F went and discussed it at the garden centre and came back with the fungicide.
There's one doggy walk which has crushed stone paths but runs through a nice bit of forest. There's a downhill part that turns into a river when it rains. We could do that one maybe. It's not the most interesting walk but I don't think the dog cares that much.
I also wanted to paint my cupboard - 2nd coat - and I have to do it outside as I'm using a spray gun. The rain has put a stop on that job.
Update:
Back from dog walking. It's very damp and soggy.
We saw only one other person and they were on a mountain bike. Of course the dog found the puddles to run through and wet crap to roll around in. She thinks it makes her attractive.
Still, it only started raining again when I came back so dodged the weather a bit there. It's really dull and overcast. Not a hint of sunshine.
I think I just need to get on with stuff in between showers and accept the grey cold weather.
Well back to a day of showers ON and off, just 10°C, feeling a bit nippy. No point on putting the heating on, will just get a thick jumper and a hot water bottle if the temperature drops which it probably will do.

Things have improved here. It's almost 12 and it's 14C. Bit of a breeze - too much really. The sun might be trying to come out. It's certainly brighter.
I was thinking of going to paint that f***ing millstone cum saga of a cupboard but looking at the forecast, it'll be a bit sunny tomorrow but temperatures still way down.
It's not good me doing spray painting when there's a breeze. Not unless I want my car to get a coat of paint speckles. I also have to paint my shed door. I've never painted it so it'll need sanding too. It's so boring! Even with a machine!
Weather has considerably improved. Very sunny but oddly cold for this time of the year. Looks like outside work could restart. I notice the neighbours on a grass cutting binge. Maybe tomorrow.
It's 13.5C and a slight breeze from SSE with a -1C chill factor. Pressure steady.
My weather station needs batteries. This is an annoying thing about it. When it's been cloudy for a week, it relies on the batteries inside. During super sunny days it runs nicely on built in solar panels. So dodgy weather means climbing into the attic and going out the hatch with some tools. It really needs a mains adaptor. Perhaps something else I should work on.
12°C right now, but tonight it will drop to 2°C. At least there is no rain today. Still wet from the rain in the night and early morning.
Currently, 15C with a high later this afternoon of 20C, they reckon it will feel like 23C. Pollen count is quite high, but the air quality index is 1, which is good for me - one of the reasons why we stayed here instead of moving back to Holland.
I've got all the girlie jobs done, so Mrs C will be able to drag me around the shops tomorrow.

What are girlie jobs then? Maybe it's just division of labour under traditional lines?
Last thing I'd want to do is go around any blinking shops. I refused to go this morning. I'd rather do some gardening. And I've not solved my car's oil leak. Not a girlie job for sure.

Girlie jobs - in general, those domestic tasks that seem to give some credence to the speculation as to why women have smaller feet than men.

Interesting! I suppose you mean ballroom dancing.
I've got two left feet that are far too big so by natural selection I cannot do those jobs (including dancing).
Thank God for Darwin!
(I nearly wrote Darwen but I haven't been there for ages)

I suppose it could be that. I've been to Darwin twice, both times as SNC; we were heading to RAAF Richmond and when we got there, our Aus cousins had very kindly prepped and documented the load and organised transport to the Sgts Mess, where "we" spent the next 24 hours counting budgies and taking part in the Tooheys beer tin stacking competition, which went on through the night; of course the only tins eligible to be stacked, were empty ones; I don't remember who won.

Oh, THAT Darwin! Not been there. In fact, not been in Aus or Kiwiland but have been elsewhere in the neighbourhood. I actually meant the other less exotic Darwen. Not so far from your locale.
I've had the excitement of cleaning up a hobby car gearbox gasket this arvo. I did that and Mrs F is gardening and mowing the grass. Division of labour. Some people just know how to live. I wish I could get my son to be interested in my hobby car. I've been toying with getting another small car just so the kids can practice things like changing wheels, charging batteries, checking oil and when we can finally get organised, learn to drive etc.

Oh, that Darwen; we're not allowed to know about that (it's over the hill) and there'll be talk about which rose won what. We live not far from Towton which was (is) one of the battlefields from the War of the Roses, some of the old local families still mutter about that lot over the hill; we're tolerated because we're foreign.
Back to nice weather, 20°C 🌡️ blue sky, managed to get out into the garden finish off what I started. But it was damn cold last night just 2°C 🥶

The excitement on the Red Rose side was if Reform (now running Lancs County Council) would allow the local flag to fly.
If they didn't allow it no-one will know who is who when it comes to skirmishes around the border.
I'm caught between two stools - relatives on both sides.

Strangely chilly out of the sun but rather good in the sunshine. Shows 17C at 18h right now.
We went doggy walking, looked at trees in a garden centre (it's on the walking route and allows dogs) and did some snooping on fancy houses as it was a convenient place to turn the car around.
I also jet washed my rubbish bins and used some aggressive detergent on it. Perhaps only the 2nd time since we've been here. I don't think I could have stood to look at them any further. We're the cleanest bins in the street now! Hasn't done my back much good.
The change in temperatures at night is extreme here too. We've only been down to 9C but it's still gets blinking cold quickly. I actually suggested we put the wood burner on but we decided we'd do better to put the heat pump (airco in reverse) on for a bit. The wood burner turns the place into an absolute sauna very quickly and we end up having to open the windows to try and moderate it. Bit of stupid thing but looks cosy when it's on.
