Germany is facing calls to withdraw its billions of euros’ worth of gold from US vaults, spurred on by the shift in transatlantic relations and the unpredictability of Donald Trump.
Germany holds the world’s second biggest national gold reserves after the US, of which approximately €164bn (£142bn) worth – 1,236 tonnes – is stored in New York.

Some EU countries are openly treating the US as a danger rather than an ally.

This is nt looking good for the US as their economy, already a mess full of debt, is shaken further.

HU:

War in Ukraine spills into Hungarian election campaign

War-torn Ukraine "will stop at nothing" to prevent Prime Minister Viktor Orbán and his Fidesz party winning the upcoming Hungarian elections, the Hungarian government claims. Physical violence against the prime minister and his family, and attacks or sabotage of key energy installations, are being prepared, ministers allege.

The Ukrainian government, in turn, accuses its Hungarian counterpart of whipping up a hate campaign against it to frighten Hungarians into voting Fidesz back into office.

A third party is in the middle: Russia.

The Financial Times reported on Wednesday morning that the Social Design Agency, a Kremlin-linked media consultancy firm, was preparing a mass disinformation campaign in Hungary, to bolster Orbán and discredit the opposition Tisza Party and its leader, Peter Magyar.

With just 30 days to go until the parliamentary election in Hungary, some analysts believe the anti-Ukraine hysteria proves that Orbán is panicking in the face of probable defeat.

His Fidesz party trails to Tisza by 39% to 50% in the latest poll.

Nothing new, no one has ever liked Americans.

Of course as soon as they are in real danger, who do they call to save them?

I dislike the assumptions people seem to always make about Americans as a group of people.

Gov. is one thing, people are another.

It is weird here in Hungary from my experiences.

As a married older women people in general leave me alone but as soon as I speak to my Hungarian husband is English they see it as a free ticket to but in and chat me up. I find it very uncomfortable at times.

As if we do not have feelings just because we are American.

Some people would see it as a compliment but I do not.

Just this weekend at a market, I stood close by waiting for my husband to decide to  buy something or not, some junk really.

It was getting warm so I took off my coat, had on an old sweater and said something in English to my husband. A young man , a vendor sitting close by listened in and yelled out to me, nice jumper.

Sort of forward, I mean I am 71 years old and not fishing for compliments at a farmers market of all places.

I get creeped out every time I am out by forward people who act like Americans can be treated different then locals.

Given the unelected Ukrainian leader threatened violence against Hungary's freely elected leadership, the allegations regarding violence are absolutely true,  and the rest might very well be true.

Iran/US/Israel:

More US Marines and warships to be moved to Middle East, reports say

"More US Marines and warships are expected to be deployed to the Middle East, two officials confirmed to CBS News, the BBC's US partner.

The officials said the reinforcements were to come from an amphibious ready group and its Marine expeditionary unit, with one official adding that the group would be led by the Japan-based USS Tripoli, an amphibious assault ship.

The unit headed by the USS Tripoli typically consists of around 5,000 sailors and Marines distributed across several warships."

It's looking like boots on the ground for Donny and Co.   I reckon they are considering invading Bandar Abbas as this is directly across from The Straits of Hormuz.    This is altogether a different game and 5000 troops is in no way enough.  Bandar Abbas is a large city of 500K people.  Might be for a hit and run job.  Hard to say what the final game plan is.  There's an island off the coast called Qeshm with a population of 150K.  Maybe this is the one they will take.  Or the tanker/oil terminal island Kharg.

I've seen online discussions on 4-6 months for the war to be over.   In the meantime, we're all screwed with higher prices everywhere.  And our own election around the corner on the 12 April.  Not sure I like living in interesting times.

Fred

Kharg Island is the terminal that allows very large tankers to load with ease. Most of its oil is bought by China.

As for Bandar Abbas, that would be a very silly target for an invasion force.

However, as Trump is stunning stupid,  you never know.

Kharg would be easier to attack, but the invasion forces can expect casualties, both when attacking and for long after.

Still, they will gets lots of oil so what's a few yanks and a bunch of Iranians?

Think of the cash.

Saying that, the US has been forced to drop a lot of sanctions against Russian oil, so the defending Iranians might well blow the lot rather than lose it to the attackers.

Watch the oil price go up on that one.

Fred

Imagine if Trump had an interest in oil prices going up. He would get a lot of bribe money.

It's all about Israel's expansion, but their low birthrate compared to Arabs will wipe them out at the ballot box in time anyway. The big problem with any society set up on racial or religious supremacy, and there are plenty of examples in history,  is they tend to see other groups as less human, thus it's ok to kill them en-masse.

Switzerland says it refused permission for two overflights by US reconnaissance planes “in the context of the war in Iran.” The government said late on Saturday that Switzerland’s neutrality law forbids overflights by parties to a conflict that have a military purpose in connection with that conflict.

But it does allow humanitarian and medical transit, as well as flights unconnected with the conflict. Switzerland said it did give clearance for two US transport aircraft to fly over the country on Sunday and for a newly serviced plane to transit on Tuesday.

HU:

Local fuel prices - Diesel about HUF 709 and 95 is 595.  That's about $2 for diesel and $1.75 a litre.  €1.81 and €1.52 respectively.

Apparently there's a discount of about 10%  if you present your HU car registration at the petrol station counter.  Shades of previous subsidies.   Never tried it.

I've told Mrs F to fill up to make sure we can keep going.   We'll take the other cars in rotation to the gas/petrol station to top them up.  We also have 20L each of diesel and petrol/gas stored in the shed. Bit too much. Should have warning signs up and a fire extinghuisher.

Trump said the war was over and now it's about 3 weeks old.  I cannot see it stopping for at least 3 months and more likely 6 months.  Screwing me up for travel further East.  I really do not want to go via the USA to Asia Pacific.

Today, I'm more concerned about Cuba.  It's a humanitarian disaster in the making.  They should let say - Mexico - send emergency supplies.   People are going to die there for no reason and it's all on Trump's blockade.   They could however start producing biofuel asap.  They've got a lot of sugar to use.

I'm quite interested to know what China will do (they're officially sticking it to Donny).  If they send a tanker to Cuba, Trump would really be dicing with WW3.  He couldn't do anything.  How many wars does Donny want at one time?   He seems to be baffled that people are resisting his call for help.  Well, Donny, you didn't consult and now you're stuck with it.  Good luck with that.

p.s. Update1: I just heard Putin sent two tankers to Cuba - one with oil and one with gas.  Interesting move. Trump will do nothing about it.  Putin probably gave instructions during the night.  Wheels on the Trump bus look more and more like they are coming off.

p.p.s  Update2:  I am wondering if Trump will nuke one of the Iranian cities.  He's nuts enough.  It could be the only way he can win.  And he's immune from prosecution.

Yellowstone abruptly ended but there's a follow on called Marshals with the same kind of theme.

It's all boo-yah - whatever that is.

Taylor Sheridan (originator of Yellowstone) seems unstoppable.  I am watching a few of his series but he seems to be very right wing and Texas rules etc.  I am not sure I could ever agree with a Texan or at least the stereotypical ones deployed with right wing BS as shown in the shows.

I liked SOME of his TV shows - specifically Landman (majorly because of Billy Bob Thornton) and Mayor of Kingstown (partially because of Jeremy Renner).

But others, I am not very sure of.  The message might be a bit off.

Trump Makes a Pearl Harbor Joke In Front of Japanese Prime Minister & Is He Lying About Epstein!?

Fred

Dan Goldman has accused Trump of lying about kicking Epstein out Mar-a-lago, and has emails that appear to prove it.

He also mentioned that Pam Bondi illegally removed references to Trump from the files release, including claims from a woman that Trump raped her when she was 13.

The former, looking at the emails, looks pretty much cut and dried, but the latter is unproven.

However, given Trump's history of live interviews about sex with his daughter, sex with young girls, and accidental recordings about pussy grabbing - I believe the allegations should be looked at with some urgency.

As for Bondi, it looks a lot like she lied under oath in order to protect Trump.

Fred

Trump's war is causing major disruption to a good number of countries as oil prices rise. The Philippines and Indonesia are looking at 'works from home' one day per week in order to reduce oil usage, and many countries are starting to get very worried about inflation caused be the war.

Trump, in an epic failure, has been forced to reduce sanctions on Russian  and Iranian oil in the hope of reducing world prices. This move is allowing his enemies to massively profit from high oil prices. It's a classic example of an idiot shooting himself in the foot.

For ordinary people, we can expect to pay more at the pump and rising fuel costs will push general inflation up. This will apply more in places like the UK that rely on road transport for basic food needs.

On the bright side, US influence around the world is weaker than ever before, and this might well be the trigger that finally rids the world of the most violent nation in modern times.

The UK, EU, and pretty much the rest of the world should push renewable energy that releases them from US oil war diplomacy, and they should do it now.

All international trade except with the US should be non-Dollar from this moment on.

The US, a country that has been at war without a break since 1947, can't be beaten militarily,  but it can be bankrupted by refusing to use the US Dollar.

‘Good, I’m glad he’s dead’: Trump’s insensitive comments about the dead hit a new level

For years, President Donald Trump has offered crass and insensitive comments about people who died — especially his foes.

But on Saturday, he explicitly celebrated the death of former FBI Director Robert Mueller, writing, “Good, I’m glad he’s dead.”

As a special counsel, Mueller probed Trump and his 2016 campaign as the leader of the Russia investigation during the president’s first term.

Trump does it again.  I wonder if Trump will have anything to say from Hades when he's dead himself?  I suppose a helluva a lot of people will be expressing the same sentiment about him.    It's an odd thing to say - Mueller was Viet Nam vet.

Is this malevolence a further sign of dementia?

https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/202 … on-panetta

Donald Trump is stuck between “a rock and a hard place” after three weeks of war in Iran and “sending a message of weakness” to the world, Leon Panetta, a former US defence secretary and Central Intelligence Agency director, has told the Guardian.
Panetta, who served in the Bill Clinton and Barack Obama administrations, recalled that national security officials were always keenly aware of Iran’s ability to create an energy crisis by blocking the strait of Hormuz. That very scenario is now unfolding, leaving Trump with no exit strategy beyond wishful thinking.
“He tends to be naive about how things can happen,” Panetta, 87, who supervised the operation to find and kill Osama bin Laden, said by phone. “If he says it and keeps saying it there’s always a hope that what he says will come true. But that’s what kids do. It’s not what presidents do.”

The top intel operative goes on to explain how Iran's almost dead leader has been replaced by a far youger man with stronger views and the world is basically pissed off with the US.

Toss in how lifting sanction on Russian and Iranian oil is allowing both countries to profit from the Trump war high oil prices, and we can safely say Trump has seriously messed up.

The suggestion now is Trump will either have to claim victory and withdraw, or he will have to order US vessels to unblock the stuck oil, but that will involve putting the US navy into a perfect kill zone. They might lose ships, and they will definitely lose men. That's why the rest of the world has politely told Trump to get stuffed.

The big question is, what will the idiot do if the latter happens?

After all this there is just the one bright side. Biden weaponised the USD and that helped BRICS, now Trump has normalised telling America to sod off.

The decline of the worst terrorist state ever is on the cards.

US wars have killed by the tens of thousands almost every year since 1947, and I for one will be glad to see that nasty country run back home bankrumpt and out of the world's hair.

We can all get on with setting up renewable energy systems that will finish off mass oil use once and for all.

Yeah two marine amb. units on the way, one from Okinava, another from San Diego.

Actually the 2400-2500 means the de facto combat troops for a possible landing, total number is 9000+.

Three islands are the possibloe target - the naval port: less likely.

But to call it an invasion is large overstatement - special operations at most with limited tactical goals.

NATO is worthless, ink on paper.

What the US asked are primary minesweepers.

But it do not need NATO for that. Either Belgium and/ or Poland suitable.

But some actions are funny:

French wanna send troops when the war ends and no danger.

As one of my favorite military analyst (Robert C. Castel) said:

"In a war France needed just as much as a "tango accordion"."

"Romania sent one minesweeper and 3 bananas."

Kinda reminds me the "Coalition of willing" when Morocco sent a few hundred monkeys.

The reality is:

If the strait is non-passable:

  1. The US still will have domestic oil, gas, lng. But probably send less to Europe.
  2. Gulf states loose some income, but survive.
  3. Europe will have problems to get oil, gas, lng, partly because China will get more from the open market for any price (replacing Iranian petrochemicals, which was about 9% of their use + Gulf imports which are more).

So actually the ones who would feel the most effect do not wish to participate.

I'm sorry to say that current US politics is so poisonous, Trump has turned most of the developed  world against the USA.   It's quite an unhappy situation.  I am a UK child of the 1960s and the US was always our friend and ally but it seems like that is not and is likely never was actually true.  I must have been living in some parallel reality or someone got one over us for years.   All we Europeans can do now is look to a world without the USA.  Perhaps we should have started addressing that back in the Bush Junior days.

I agree Bandar Abbas is an unlikely target but there's little to go on as to what options they have for boots on the ground.  Kharg Island is more likely.  There are some big islands with airports near Bandar Abbas - Qhesm.  They could take them easily enough, expel the population and set up a fire base.  The Iranians haven't got the wherewithal to stop it.  Number of marines is far too small except for Kharg.

Trump called it an excursion.  He's confused the word excursion with incursion.  Getting words mixed up is common in dementia.  He also called Newsom the President.  It seems like more of the same.  And most people with dementia do not have rational plans.

Yes, it said that in the quote.

One weird outcome is that we have to wait for the Iranians to comment to get confirmation as if Trump's mouth is open, we know he's almost certainly lying.  Iranians would be fools to drop their guard as Donny cannot be trusted by allies and foes alike.  They will take the pause to rearm, redeploy and consolidate their forces.

I just wonder if there's more buyers regret for voting him in.  I suppose his ratings are majorly tanking despite the rally in stocks and slight dips in oil prices today.
