Questions about Mauritius

Hi Everybody,

To those who have stayed in mauritius for a while, what would you feel about the place, culture and people.

HOw much time would be enough to explore the place at ease?
Are there any other places one can visit near by to the island and is that expensive?

Will one  be able to get a visa from there to europe or america to go on vacation?I heard both british and american embassy are there at Portlouis.

Are the air fares expensive or can anyone grade the airfares to america especially?

Thanks and regards

The culture is very distinctive given the anglo-french-indian-african mix - it's great; the people are very warm and friendly. It's a small island so one can get a feel for the place in a few days. As it is pretty remotely situated in the Indian Ocean - the nearest places to visit are Réunion, Madagascar and South Africa (plus other islands). No idea what the flight costs are.

European and US citizens (plus others) can get tourist/business visa on arrival for a limited stay. The government portal ( www. gov.mu ) gives links to immigration requirements for tourist, work, residence and occupation permits - and also discussed at length elsewhere in the forum. In general it is a very open place for foreign visitors - they want you to come with your greenbacks!
