Mauritian Citizenship query

Hi....please do I need to go personally to Port Louis in Mauritius to apply for my Mauritian Citizenship? Both my parents were Mauritian born. Any help will be most welcome. Urgent please.

Yes, you will have to call in personally at the Prime Minister's Office with all the required documents to start the process.

In your case:
You need to go in person to request the citizenship, cost 2000 Rs @ PM's Office;
Wait for a year!!! in most cases and;
after you get a letter from the PM's Office, you or anyone appointed pays 15000 Rs @ PM's Office;
after a week or so you can collect your letter of citizenship (can't remember if you need to collect this one in person);
Immediately after that you can apply for your National ID card. (In person of course)
Collect that one after a week in person because they need to your fingerprint.

Is there any way to start the process remotely?

Hello,
It all depends on what year your parents were born.
Both my parents were born in Mauritius and I applied from Australia I missed out in getting my citizenship due to the fact that my farther was born a year before they  allowed dual citizenship in Mauritius and the fact I was born before 1974 which made it even harder !!!.

Nevertheless we went to Mauritius for a holiday with all relevant information and paper work and I received my citizenship 11 months later and now waiting for my passport.
Once I obtain my passport I'll have to make a trip again to Mauritius to obtain the Mauritian ID (Identification card).
In saying all this you might be eligible to obtain your citizenship and passport from where you are!.
Hope that helps you a little!.
Cheers.

thanks what documents did you need?
