Family Visa Rules for Australians

I have gone through many posts and have gathered that the visa rules are similar irrespective of the country of residence? Am I correct in assuming so or there are variations in rules.
To cut the chase I am holding an Australian passport and want to know if I can sponsor my family or only the employer could sponsor the family.

Hi NEWTOFORUM,

At best, your Australian passport can fetch you / your family a visa on entry. But as has been mentioned earlier, sponsoring of an employee's family can be done only by the sponsor / employer on behalf of the employee. An employee cannot sponsor his family by himself.
