Visiting Egypt

Post new topic

redmapleleaf

Hi all,
if I want to go to visit Egypt for more than two months what kind of visa I need to obtain, As far as I know the visit visa is valid for 30 days only.

Any suggestions?

You can get a 3 month extension for your tourist visa with no problem at the Tahrir square. (the process, the accountants and the office is horrible and depressing though, crowded, dirty, smoky, some ugly, ignorant office workers etc.. I hated it so very much)
However when your 1 month visa is not valid anymore and you have no valid visa, nobody really cares about it. When you finish your visit in Egypt and go back home you will have to pay a small fine at the airport\border but nothing else really happens.

oh really so what I understood is that:
I can stay for one month then I extend it to another 3 months so that is 4 months in total ( is the process of extension free though?). Then lets say I came back home after 2 months with no valid visa will I have to pay them a fee for the delay or I have to pay it anyway.

Yeah, you can stay for 1 month, you need to ask for the 3 months extension before it expires. Then you can ask for another 3 months and then again and again. You will get it. I dont remember the cost of visa extension, but it was not a big amount.
I wrote about the option to stay with expired tourist visa because it happened with me and my friends many times and we could leave the country and come back again with no problem. You just have to pay the fine at the border (or at the visa office if you want to apply for a visa extension) but it is a fix amount, no matter how long your visa got expired.
I will ask the exact amounts of the extension and the fine and I get back to you.

I asked my husband, as he remembers the visa extension fee is like 8 EGP or so - it is really cheap. The fine you have to pay for expired visa is 150 EGP per person (for children you dont need to pay the fine).

ok great information so let assume I didnt extend it and I was in the airport planing to go back home with expired visa they will not take me to jail or anything, I just have to pay them the 150 and thats it and also I wont have problem with my flight time .....
and how much canadian dollars compare to Egyptain. I know it is more than 6 but I dont want to google it I want an exact amount from people.

When you want to leave Egypt they check your passport at the airport and when they see that your visa has expired they will send you to another window to pay the fine, then you can leave. It takes like 10 minutes..
