Are Foreign marriage certificates recognized in Egypt?

Hi you all,

I am Jane Me from Germany and I am going to get married to my Egyptian fiance in Denmark this year. As Egypt is Not a Part of the Hagener Agreement we will Need to legalize  our marriage  certificates at the Egyptian Embassy in Kopenhagen.

Is anyone here familiar if Egypt recognizes marriage certificates from the EU just like Denmark or Germany? If so, do you also know how to Register this Wedding in Egypt? So That it is Seen as a legal civil marriage and application for „Ikama“ (5 yrs residence permit) is possible?

Thanks a lot and have a Great time in lovely Egypt!

Hi

You should contact the Danish embassy in Cairo  and they will tell you exactly what you need to do.
Do not believe what the Egyptian embassy in Denmark tells you or listen  to anyone who thinks they know.

When I got married in 2014 I got lots of information which was incorrect from people who did not know what they were talking about but believed they did.

Best of luck

There is a long process you must go through.  I really suggest you ensure the potential groom is not already married in Egypt. If he is Muslim he can have 4 wifes.
Your marriage will be legal in Egypt however, you need to go to the Egyptian embassy in your country and have this marriage certificate stamped by the Egyptian embassy before this you need to get the marriage certificate stamped by your own government.

Again I don't want to speak bad I don't know your circumstances something to keep in mind. If you don't agree for your future husband to have more then one wife please make sure you write this in your marriage certificate.
