hei everyone!

i'm attending the university of mauritius as from next year and
i have a few questions which i hope you guys could help me with.

1. where could yo buy/lease a nice used car? (like bmw, mercedes, audi etc.)do you know any websites? and aprox. how much do you have to spend a month?

2. i've been looking through almost every website there is regarding accomodation, and every single one is overpriced!
i mean, come on, 100.000 rs for an ok house, with horrible interior design and furnishing? thats european prices!

3. where's the best place to live?

4. what do you think the chances for getting a job after completed studies? (Bsc (hons) Management)

5 what are the best nightclubs?

have a great day, oh, and to all of you lucky people already living on my favourite island; enjoy paradise!

best regards
Martine

First you must understand this, you are on a tropical island paradise...everything will cost you more. The average is 30% more  than living in South Africa. Cars...very expensive. A 10 year old used car in OK condition could cost you 3500 euro. A new small compact car will cost about 16,000 euro. To find good housing you must get to Mauritius and start networking. You can get a good house for about 20,000Rs in a nice area only if you know someone. Property agents skyrocket the prices. I may be able to assist on living. The best place on the island to live depends on what you are looking for. I live in the north and it is very busy, lots of beaches and night clubs. Some people enjoy the tranquil, peaceful south. Maybe you should look for something close to the University? It would increase your chances of landing a job if you speak multiple langues. I only speak english and it would be hard for me to find employment. The north has 4 nightclubs. The night club in Pt Aux Canonnier is great! I hope all this helps.

Well well enitram

seems you are comign for a long holiday rather then studies....

lolz just kidding

wel as far as car is concerned  u can hav a 2nd hand car around  8-10 yrs old price as low as 4000-5000 Euro  as well.. and if u look for new or better range the island has unlimited variety may go beyond 2 Million Muaritiun Rupees also...
on rental can may cost 8000-12000 per month Mauritiun Rupess.

so if planning to be here for couple of years u shd go for buyign a car rather dthen rentals..

Orange.mu chk classified u can have used car column  section.... for more information...

as far as Area near University is concerned Quatre Bornes is the closet area.. or if want beach then Flic ek Flac ...

Cost of Appt for singl bhk shd be around 10000-12000 Mauritiun Rupess..

Depends what are you looking for what is your budget for everything??

Best Nightclubs are in North Grand baie side.. or even Flic en Flac as well...

so everything comes to your Budget accordingly you will get...

as low as possible as high as possible...

Regarding Job i guess its not my field so cant say but i m sure u will be here studying for 2-3 years... so u will get an idea... while studying....

hei,
not sure i agree on the price range in mauritius, im from norway, and i can assure you-mauritius is cheap in compare..
anyway.. the house im looking for should be at least 3 bedrooms, swimming pool and nice outdoor area. I't doesn't have to be furnished, as thats one of my hobbies, and i loove to decorate houses.
I know alot of people in the north, so i think i will try to find something up there..but who knows, if i find the perfect house down south -thats where i wanna be!

pbrough: you mentioned the club in pointe aux cannonier, did you mean Les Enfantes Terribles? cause i absolutely adore that place!

if anyone else has answers for me, i'll be very happy:)
have a great day!
best regards

terence

Hi Enitram,

Yes, the nightclub is called Les Enfants Teribles. I was there last Saturday . Excellent place to hang out , but the crowd starts getting in only between 12.00 to 1.00 am. Same with other night clubs in Grand Baie except for Banana bar.
To help you with all your information, there is another Norwegian guy in Mauritius who is doing the same things what you plan to to in Mauritius. He used to be active when he was new to this blog and I have met him once during our Blog get together in lambic bar and the next time in Le Sufferen.
I am sure he will guide you if he reads your post or you can PM him. I dont recall his name, but I am sure you can see that in previous posts.

Cheers
